Eh, I think it's a little on the nose so far, and you'd think they would have done a little more research. [editline]27th October 2017[/editline] On the bright side, while the humor isn't quite there, it seems to be moving in the right direction.

The part where Bortus said [sp]"who would need such a large cup"[/sp] really caught me off guard, I laughed pretty hard at that.

"but what if i want a big gulp?"
To be honest, for me personally this was the 'weakest' episode so far. And I only say that because the "Avoid interfering with a developing culture" episodes of past Trek's were MOSTLY pretty average in my books. I don't know why they don't excite me, they just feel a bit tedious, we know exactly how it will play out. I think the Enterprise episode 'The Communicator' is just about the only example of this kind of episode that I genuinely enjoyed. Just clarifying - didn't hate it, just didn't tingle my bits like the rest of the season has so far.

Like, I'm shamelessly stealing concepts from Orville episodes for my hopefully-soon-to-be-running Star Trek Adventures RPG campaign, but every time I write something out where the main problem involves the prime directive, I have to wonder why the players won't just whip out their technology and solve the problem instantly, directive be damned. Similar problem here I guess?

Going against that directive is grounds for either punishment or being relieved of duty, which you could probably just make effective character deaths. After all, if you're not authorized to operate as an explorer or member of the federation, they're not going to be doing much adventuring after that point.

Whether that's a risk you're willing to take of course varies, and is the crux of the drama. I have an interesting question, sorry if it's too off topic do discuss here. Has there ever been a situation where the main characters in a Star Trek series gone to help someone out, only for them to find out too late that the people they're helping are so low on the advancement scale to not qualify for the PD? Would make for an interesting story.
That's true, but at the same time you could argue that unless someone blew the whistle on what the characters were doing, it would be pretty difficult for the higher ups to find out. If they irrevocably change a culture or something a follow up investigation by other members of the federation could have the crew caught red-handed, so the consequences don't necessarily have to be immediate, just apparent.
Arguably it would be even more dramatic to have the consequences appear way later. "Hey Captain, we just got word from one of our vessels that this civilization is revering the Federation as some sort of pantheon of savior gods, and you're the last ship to have known contact with these folks...any explanation for that?"
Besides, we all know what happens to people who fuck with the Prime Directive for their own benefits. Nazi planet.

Heck, in the first 5 minutes they found that they could get locally hacked badges, they could have just brought a dohickey down and hacked his badge, making it register like 1,000,000 likes in one click or even create badges that don't actually have a registered number on them, so people can click them all they want but they don't actually do anything since they're not in the master database
"All ya'll can suck ass, and I'm a space man." Alright this show is a gem.
Latest episode was amazing, I kept having to remind myself that this is a Seth McFarlane show and not the next Star Trek installment. I am SO glad we're getting sci-fi like this again, and now with ST:Discovery perking up with it's later episodes it's practically christmas for me. Ever since we lost enterprise and sg-1 it felt like every sci-fi show just harped on BSG and Game of Thrones, and having shows that actually dare to be optimistic and hopeful feel like a breath of fresh air.
That's true, but at the same time you could argue that unless someone blew the whistle on what the characters were doing, it would be pretty difficult for the higher ups to find out. Then comes the question of 'if we brazenly ignored this federation law, why not others?' which your crew will no doubt ask themselves if they know the captain is willing to break the PRIME directive and then lie to command about it. This can lead to a break-down in the chain of command as the only reason you're in charge of a lot of these random red-shirt mooks is because of rank, the same rank granted to you by the government whose laws you just broke for the 'greater good'.
Just renewed early for a second season! :excited:

Just watched latest ep, really loved it. When it started out I was thinking "Oh no, kids. Oh no, kids on a shuttle." but it quickly turned into a really enjoyable episode, Isaac is fucking awesome. Also, did I hear a star wars laser sound on that last shot the rescue shuttle made? I really hope they find a sensible and meaningful way to introduce some set upgrades to the ship. I do actually like the super simple almost-Scandinavian nature of the ships' design, but I would love to see a tiny bit more detail and better lighting. Nothing idiotic like STD, but something more TNG or VOY like, give the ship a bit more personality.
Yeah I think how they explore each characters background is one of the better parts of this show. I liked how they introduced them in fairly stereotypical Star Trek roles than shatter that perception later. Also the low altitude bitching betty on the shuttle was a nice touch.
I thought I wasn't going to like this episode, because of how it started. But it was pretty great.
[sp]"Now entering Gloryhole." oh Bortis please[/sp] :v:
Yeah that was a fantastic episode. Isaac is the best character, and that's fact.
Very happily surprised of how this show scratches an itch in TV I've wanted for a while
Next season they should visit a lootbox planet where all parts of society run like this
Great fucking Great episode!
That was a rather gay episode, I liked it.
That blob scene tho :wow:

[sp] So I guess now that they know Derullio is a walking roofie maybe they will get back together?[/sp]
What an episode, christ. It felt like how Trek used to get really weird with it's sci-fi concepts, except this one started off fucking weird.
[sp] So I guess now that they know Derullio is a walking roofie maybe they will get back together?[/sp]
[sp] Derullio is a right cunt, dude coulda fixed all their relationship problems with a simple yes or no answer and decided to be vague about it. What a dick. [/sp]
