Simple, the guy was in a section and watched ALL of his mates not just get killed, but get blown to peices and scattered around him by a Stuka dive bomb, he's not smiling or laughing because he's on film, he's actually delirious, off his rocker and knows whats about to happen next.
Laugh now you heartless bastards.
[sp]They should do something about that tough, he really does stand out like a sore thumb :v:[/sp]

It's been rumored for ages and slowly gaining more traction pretty much every week, but it looks like Nolan's gonna continue his trend of Imax prologues and premiere a Dunkirk Prologue in front of Star Wars Rouge One Imax screenings
there's so many different sources for this. here's a random one

it will also play in digital imax's too, not just the (very few) 70 mm imax screens.

Imagine being a WWII veteran with PTSD and coming home and hearing this coming from the living room.
(wait a minute they didn't air this on television, people went to see it in the movie theaters)

Oh well, was talking to my dad about this movie the other day, I'm pretty excited to see something around this period by Nolan to be honest
And you know how to bump a super old thread
i mean it was still on the first page lol

confirmed for PG13
Seeing it in the Imax 70mm, super excited. Early screenings are saying it's light on the dialogue, so that should be super interesting.
i'm thinking about moving to Madrid on weekend release and watch it on IMAX, however it's like 220km away and I'd spend like 40-50€ on this
I'm still seriously bummed about not signing up as an extra (they were looking for people fitting my description) when they were shooting near my town.
Anyway, am looking forward to seeing this.
Super keen to see this. 2 hour train ride for 70mm.
just booked tickets for the 22nd with my dad, step mum and thier parents
Apparently the review embargo for this lifts in 40 minutes from what I've been seeing. Either way we're gonna find out real soon what the verdict is on this. Already loads of first impressions across twitter. All seems mostly positive so far.
Even if its just another Interstellar, we'll still have the great soundtrack and cinematography.
yep here they come https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dunkirk_2017 off to a great start so far (35 reviews with average rating of 9/10 atm )

Seems critics really liked it.
This one line from a review has me excited
Yet as much as these familiar faces give us something to grab on to, this is a film without heroes or a straightforward story. The action is the attraction. If that means some of the film feels a little distant and chilly, it’s in the admirable service of avoiding simplistic drama or easy sentiment.
the one negative review on RT (though they still gave it a C even though they seem to hate it???) had this to say (I put it in spoilers since he spoils a plot point in the movie, one I had sorta worked out from the trailers, but If you don't want to know much, don't read it).
[sp]First, Nolan does not visually give the impression that the Allied forces were encircled by Germans, praying for a miracle and feeling that this battle could be their last.
Second, and more important, Nolan employs non-linear filmmaking, avoiding the better approach—which would be chronological. Instead “Dunkirk” uses three separate settings, cutting furiously from one to the other for no apparent reason other than his ideological drive to be, well, nonlinear. With the appropriate chapter headings, at least at first, he opens with the scene on land about a week before civilian boats are to approach the port of Dunkirk. Slightly earlier he hones in on scenes of the sea, ultimately switching to the goings-on by air. In fairness Nolan had stated that he wanted to make a movie about war and not a war movie; that is, presumably to show in the most vivid, IMAX-aided way that war is hell. The result is simply confusion.
Third, there is no humor whatever. Blink and you’ll discover maybe three women in the entire picture, one of them serving white bread and jam to the soldiers and one dishing out the cuppas.
Fourth, there is no real story here, just men surviving or not under fire from torpedoes, bombs, and guns from the enemy whose faces we do not see at all—except for, maybe, some German spy who is traveling with the Allies. There’s nothing like the movies to present spectacle: theater cannot begin to approach vivid scenes in far-larger-than-life size. But everybody likes a story, and there is no story here.
“Dunkirk” is a thriller than does not thrill, a tale of heroism with no center, individuals with limited dialogue such as a shell-shocked fellow (played by Cillian Murphy) who bundles up in a corner, a Commander Bolton (Kenneth Branagh) who would be much better off playing Shakespeare (remember his Hamlet, Iago, Benedict? He went once more unto the breach in “Henry V” and rouses the men with “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers,” sending shock waves throughout the audience, motivating his men who are outnumbered by the French.” Not only is “Dunkirk” bereft of a single, glorious speech, it appears to lack written dialogue, at best a film that could have been improvised.[/sp]
Everything he lists as a negative is pretty much a positive for me. From the scant dialogue to non-linear aspects, those have me excited. Also the fact that there's not a rousing patriotic moment in the middle of it all. So from what people are saying, Nolan has made a movie about war, rather than necessarily a war movie.
Which is all the more exciting for me personally.

we're up to 91 reviews and the average rating between them all is STILL a 9/10. that's pretty insane. I'm def looking forward to this now
Saw it just now, it was good, will wait a bit before I write something in-depth if I do.
Was temporarily confused by the disjointed narrative, didn't pay attention to the timeline texts and weren't aware that it was split into 3 parts until a bit into the movie oops
Eh, the sound was AMAZING. The Spitfires were amazing buuuuut.
0 emotional connection to anything what so ever.
Can someone explain the point of what happened to the kid on the boat? Like was that some morality story of sacrifice I didn't get?
Honestly, kinda disappointed, the hype really got me all fired up.
Seems like there were alot of times where its just cinematic shots, but it always felt too empty. I know Nolan wants to show vast shots, but there weren't enough space being filled to feel like this was a huge ass evacuation. It always felt like it was just one small part of the beach.
And the 2 spitfire actions were nice, but I was hoping for more.
Also, you barely know their names, there's no character you feel worried for.
Music and sound editing were great, so was the cinematography, but story and dialogue could be better
Honestly, I'm not that excited after seeing it.
There were a couple of moments that gave me a small reason to care about the specific characters but overall you can't really connect with anyone.
It's a good-looking film for sure and the pacing is an interesting choice. Unfortunately I felt like it had no heart.
I can't help it but feel like they maybe didn't have enough extras. I'm looking at pictures and the beaches in the movie looked way more empty.
Also the lack of gore at a very small amount of scenes stole their intensity for me.
Great movie. Felt incredibly authentic. Hearing those Stukas get louder and louder...Damn. Probably the loudest movie I've ever watched (I jumped quite a few times) and it really added to the experience. I would absolutely recommend people to watch it in a cinema instead of on a regular TV for that aspect alone.
[sp]The way the movie cuts between the different perspectives felt weird but after thinking about it I believe it was actually a good decision. If the camera had cut between the different viewpoints in real time, it wouldn't feel like you're actually "there" if you know what I mean. Seeing a sinking ship from an airplane feels very different than being inside of it. This way, you can wonder if the people inside made it out ok without taking you out of the moment of being in an intense dog fight.[/sp]
I loved every minute of it, the scene with [sp]the torpedo[/sp] was absolutely terrifying.
Just got back, thought it was brilliant, kept me on the edge of the seat
My great grandfather was at Dunkirk and wouldn't talk about it. All I know is that he got shot multiple times before being evacuated.
I had a personal connection going into this, and it being more realistic and believable helped me understand why he was that way.
I'm in a movie theater hallway waiting for a different movie to start and I can fucking hear Dunkirk next door.
Jesus Christ Nolan if you don't want to make movies anymore just tell us, you don't need to death-vibrate every theater
So when are they going to put all of Bane's dialogue in for Tom Hardy's character?
