ep7: [sp]I'm glad they revealed that Laura did in fact write that incredibly important information in her diary. That was one loose end that irked me and my friends a little[/sp]
ep8: [sp]I thought the no-face space lady episode was going to be peak Lynch this season but boy am I glad to be wrong. What a return to form. So what are people's theories as to what exactly the golden Laura ball is about? Was she a pawn to help bring down Bob?[/sp]
ep 7: did you not watch FWWM?
ep 8: [sp] BOB killing her makes Coop go to Twin Peaks, and it seems like he's ultimately going to destroy/stop BOB [/sp]

[sp]From what I recall Annie appears in Laura's bed and talks to her but we never actually see her write in her diary.[/sp]

[sp] Annie tells her "The good Dale is trapped in the Lodge, write it in your diary", and there's the fact that we knew Laura kept a secret diary all about BOB [/sp]

I know but we follow Laura pretty closely through the movie and we are never given any implication she actually did it. [sp]She starts having visions immediately after she's told then it just cuts to her asleep in bed. That's what lead me to believe she didn't do it.[/sp] It's not a big deal or anything it's just something that irked me.
I finally watched the new season, it's been a while since I binged through the first two. I liked them quite a bit mostly because I am quite a big Lynch fan.
That said this seasons is absolutely bonkers, I am so glad that they really cranked up the supernatural elements and that they took the series to a new direction.
One thing that bugs me though is that I have a very bad recollection of the first two seasons and I have not even watched FWWM, it really feels like I am missing out on some clues here.
Now episode 8 was just mindblowing, I wonder how they managed to air this on tv. Such a show would never be broadcast here in germany.

Watch FWWM ASAP.
I enjoy the new series, I'm just not into all of the band shit that happens every episode. I really wish they weren't there. In the old show, you got time to relax from insane revelations from campiness and understanding the town more. I understand that those two things might not be compatible (or at least not compatible in the same way) with the new show, but trading for music videos seems like the wrong idea to me.

I like the chromatics in the first show and also nine inch nails but mostly because I am a huge fan but I agree with you. I am glad that they appear mostly during the end of a show with the credits playing.
NiN felt like a fully fledge music video though, it's a bit odd.
Yeah, and for the record, I'm a Nine Inch Nails fan. It just felt out of place. It didn't feel like it was contributing anything other than a short break from the madness, and that just feels wrong.
NIN is the biggest band featured in this season so it feels like they made a point to give them more air time. They even named them, unlike the other bands.
And yeah FWWM is essential to understanding this new season. The Missing Pieces is great as well.
My favorite music segment was The Cactus Blossoms. I've been looking for country music like that for a while and just could never find any, thanks Dave for showing me the light.
If you guys are looking for Peaksy music, I can whip up a quick playlist of my favorites.

the music squence in the middle of ep8 was to denote the transition from linearity to bonkersness im p sure

Well, I just watched it and there are definitely elements that were referenced in the new season but overall it's still quite confusing in a way.
On another note, I do not know how Lynch manages to create these incredible sexy scenes. Nearly all of his movies have really arousing moments, it just fits so well together and is not cheap like most movies. The Pink Room in FWWM was so fucking incredible. That song is just so fucking killer.

I know he's a big psychology buff and I also know that he has a history of playing with people's emotional expectations. Him being able to exploit sexuality and do so in a way that makes you feel conflicted is a very important tool in his manipulative repertoire, and so I consider it nothing but Lynchian.
also you could never have ended episode 8 with a music act. that'd have been so jarring lol.

[sp]Could have had Woodsman put the music back on.[/sp]
Discussion question: was s1/2 Cooper a Mary Sue? Can anyone think of any flaw that he had at all? If you think he is, why did it work for the show?
Disclaimer: Coop is my husbando so this isn't necessarily a criticism of his character

[sp]I know it sounds weird, but his perfect 'goody two shoes'ness leads to his doppelgänger escaping the Lodge (with BOB in tow) leading to Major Briggs' death and the following 25 years of misery. If Cooper wasn't so good, he wouldn't have followed Annie and Earle into the Lodge. [/sp]

I don't see how that's a case of being a "goody two shoes" [sp]Annie was in danger and he barely even knew what he would face in the Black Lodge.[/sp]
cooper in S1/2 seems socially awkward as fuck to me. like i know he's smooth at times but in general he seems kind of like the nerdy kid who everyone gets along with but is definitely not fully Out There with everyone, you feel me?
I don't think Coop was too concerned about being awkward. He just seemed to do his own thing, which I can respect.
Coop is pure.
He also gets a shit ton of backstory in the books.

Creative difference between Lynch and Frost. Lynch wanted a perfect character who was always doing good, while Frost introduced certain plot points in order to give him depth ([sp]the whole thing with Windom Earle was to show Cooper's lowest point and a source of a hidden anger[/sp]. So yes and no, depending on who was writing
The issue with Cooper is that he is way to lawfully good and it makes him readable in a sense. Windom mentions that there are patterns to Coopers behavior that actually helped him to trick him during their chessgame. There is a very nice extensive character breakdown about Cooper on youtube which mentions his flaws and they all seem fairly solid when you think about it.

[sp]Oh yeah! I totally forgot Coop fucked Earle's wife, that's not so perfect.[/sp]
