Looks like we have a premiere date!
Not gonna get my hopes up since maybe they just put a random Showtime program for each month. April/May would be good though. [editline]3rd January 2017[/editline]
Am I the only one who sees Twin Peaks as just as much of a bizarre comedy as a drama thriller?
I feel the same, although the movie is definitely not reflective of that.
I finally got around to seeing Fire Walk With Me the other night since I just got the Blu-Ray set (not the 10-disc one, the 9-disc one). Not sure why it got so many bad reviews on release, it's really good. Did people just not know what to expect from Twin Peaks? I suppose if so many scenes weren't cut out it would have been a little easier to follow and digest, but the sheer nature of it all and how all over the place and manic it is kind of just add to the experience. I do think the movie would have benefited by using the original "Missing Pieces" extended version of the Jeffries sequence [sp]but that's just my rabid unhealthy obsession with David Bowie talking[/sp]. So yeah, really enjoyed it and now I'm going to have to rewatch the entire series. Might as well get that pot of coffee going and just binge watch Season 1.
I liked FWWM more after seeing Missing Pieces, since it seemed like a lot of the stuff they cut was more positive in tone. FWWM has a pretty dark conclusion and it didn't have a lot of the strange humor the series had.
Just like real life. Sometimes it's tense and serious, sometimes it's just goofy and fun. Rarely both.
Lynch is very good at contrasting pure, brutal horror with outlandish and contrasting comedy. imo its why the show works so well. It makes the comedy feel even more surreal when you know the horrible things that are going on underneath. Like, [sp]The reveal that Catherine faked her death and has been disguised as a semi-convincing Asian man for the past few episodes is a scene away from Maddy's brutal murder. And even then, Leland shouting "You're going back to Missoula, Montana!" before slamming her head into the painting reads like a comedy bit, but in the flow of the scene, it's a uniquely horrifying and gut-wrenching moment.[/sp] [editline]4th January 2017[/editline] I think that's a common theme through a lot of Lynch's work, scenes or ideas that seem ridiculous or funny, but in the scenes he direct, come across as horrifying. Like (Mullholland Drive spoilers) [sp]the old couple that shrink at the end of Mullholland Drive.[/sp] On its own it looks silly, but under Lynch's direction it's one of the most haunting moments of that movie.
FWWM has a pretty dark conclusion and it didn't have a lot of the strange humor the series had.
I mean, can you really have a not dark conclusion considering the plot?
I mean, can you really have a not dark conclusion considering the plot?
Probably not. I mean, considering we probably knew exactly what was going to happen to Laura going in, the[sp]incest-y rape scenes and the final murder[/sp]probably didn't do a lot do improve audience reactions at the time :v:

Apparently he was supposed to reappear, which sucks because I really want to find out more about that character.

I did hear a rumor that Tim Roth may be playing him, though. I'm looking forward to seeing if they actually do something with the character at this point, hell, some people think Lynch may have secretly shot his scenes ahead of time, as unlikely as that may be.

David Lynch, who directed the entire thing, later confirmed that it will air as 18 episodes. Nevins also said that immediately following the two-hour opener, Episodes 3 and 4 will be available On Demand and via Showtime’s streaming platform. “We’ve seen the whole thing… and the version of Twin Peaks you’re going to see is the pure-heroin version of David Lynch,” Nevins said. “I’m very excited to put that out.” Storyline-wise, Nevin would only reveal that it’s “about Agent Cooper’s odyssey back to Twin Peaks,” and that an “emotional” story grounds the 18-hour run. Those waiting for a trailer, meanwhile, should plan on waiting. Maybe forever. Nevins indicated that a themed series of teasers (a la American Horror Story) could unspool prior to its May premiere. Later discussing the unthinkable impact Twin Peaks could have now, in the social-media age, he added, “It rewards close watching, making sure you’re paying attention to details and putting things together over time.” As for even more Peaks beyond the upcoming 18 hours, Nevins was bearish, saying, “It’s designed to be a closed-ended, one-time event.”
So we're getting four hours of new Twin Peaks on May 21.
Kyle MacLachlan reprises his role as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. TWIN PEAKS, the 18-part limited event series will debut with a two-part premiere on Sunday, May 21 at 9PM ET/PT. Immediately following the premiere, SHOWTIME subscribers will have access to the third and fourth parts, exclusively across the SHOWTIME streaming service, SHOWTIME ANYTIME® and SHOWTIME ON DEMAND®. In its second week, TWIN PEAKS will air the third and fourth parts back-to-back on the linear network, starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by one-hour parts in subsequent weeks.
I'm actually quite curious about the premiere. It has the potential of being the biggest opening for any cable series in history and so far the show's marketing is excellent
I'm actually quite curious about the premiere. I seriously doubt it's going to even graze the top 10 biggest cable TV openings.
I started watching this a couple weeks back for the first timewith my ladyfriend and we both instantly fell in love with it. At first we would ask, "but who killed Laura Palmer!?" after each episode, but halfway through the first season we stopped giving a shit about that bitch because everything else that was going on was more interesting. Fantastic show.

[editline]21st February 2017[/editline] [sp]The main reason the show got cancelled is because they lost interest after revealing who the killer is, because ABC pressured them into solving it. Frost and Lynch had no intention of ever solving it, because, as you say, 'everything else is more interesting'.[/sp]

New teasers, nothing really new though.

Not gonna lie, I'd love to see True Detective Season 3 with Kyle MacLachlan and David Duchovny just playing Cooper and Mulder expys.
I'd cast Mulder as a washed up alcoholic ex FBI agent like kevin bacon in the following and hed be on the trail of some occultists in the vein of bohemian grove execs and theyve been sacrificing children or something. I'd back him up with a civilian probably played by jake Gyllenhaal whose kid disappeared or something [editline]26th February 2017[/editline] And david would only do it cause he knew jakes char and people are trying to disappear the pair and david gets framed for murder or something so the fbi is on their case and theres a manhunt

sweet mother of god i want this
id end the show with dave and jake infiltrating the occult group right before they sacrifice his kid. they shoot a lot of the guys and the show ends as cops show up to this occult place and jake is clutching his kid. dave would probably die. [editline]26th February 2017[/editline] My fucking merge dude i was rockin this shit out
Alright, finally finished the show with my ladyfriend. I liked that the last episode treaded more into the realm of weirdness which got me into the series to begin with. I'll be looking forward to what they come up with this year. I also really like that [sp]Laura hinted at a return with her "25 years" comment. It's good stuff.[/sp]

It took 25 years, but hey, it worked.

I like how Nadine and Ed barely look any older and Bobby looks like a fucking skeleton.
James and Laura are together in most of the pictures. Anyone else thinking James died/was murdered and is in the waiting room with Laura and Coop? EDIT: James' actor said James had an important role in the new series, and in one picture he's holding an Owl. I definitely think there's something up there.
I like how Nadine and Ed barely look any older and Bobby looks like a fucking skeleton.
Yeah, it took me a few seconds to realize that was Bobby since he looks easily 1.5x his age.
Fucking Miguel Ferrer, man :c
