Part of what makes it so great IMO is how eternally relevant the plot is. Themes of rise and fall; rags to riches; hero (well, kinda) to villain aren't getting old any time soon. It's simple, but quaint

2 times to be exact. He ran like a bitch in the second one, died at the end of TF3, and revived as [sp]Galvatron[/sp] in TF4. He's still here because producers don't care that the franchise has a treasure trove of villains and more recent Decpeticon leaders to keep the roster fresh. They only matter because the general audience members will go "Why not keep Megatron? he's a machine so can't they just keep reviving him or at least not kill him?" He's a pretty big house-hold name along with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. At least that's what I take from this.

Admittedly, I've never played Uncharted, but I have no faith in Sony to make a faithful and respectful adaptation without some behind the scenes shenanigans from their execs.

To be fair he wasnt even the main villain of the films past the first, the second was The Fallen, then Sentinel, then Lockdown, its the same here, with Quintessa, which is probably leading to Unicron. He's more of a supporting villain in he film series.

Not to mention they're deliberately fast-tracking it because they know they're on the ropes, financially speaking. If the emoji-movie tanks, this might go down with it.
What I really don't understand though is why start with Young Nathan? It serves only one purpose in the game and it's barely interesting enough to justify it's inclusion. In fact, I think the only reason it's even there is because the third Indiana Jones movie had Young Indy, so why not copy that?
And an adaptation of the first game would probably be easier to do on a budget anyway. It's one setting, no gigantic setpieces, and it has a pretty small cast of characters.

Eh, i'm going to go see this regardless of what RT or the critics have to say, the critics have always universally panned these films after the 1st film (Granted the 4th one deserved the lashing it got). As long as it's better and at least more memorable then that god awful 4th film they put out i will be a happy camper.

yea the pirates' sequels have never gotten the best of reviews, but it's worth pointing out each subsequent sequel gets consistently worse reviews

god it is almost perfectly consistent, i am impressed. we'll find out real soon but yea my optimism for this redeeming the series is pretty low right now

Better than Stranger Tides is my incentive to see this. From what people told me of Pirates 4 I avoided it like the plague. Dumbass me also saw TF4 with a bunch of friends in fucking IMAX thinking "New cast means it can be good." Seeing reviews going "If you liked Pirates 1, you'll like this one" is enough for me.
Now we wait to see how Wonder Woman and TF5 turn out to be.

Which are weird ideas to begin with. Why give a recognizeable character 2nd bananas to villians that only the most die-hard fans will know? Not to mention that outside the first one Megatron and Optimus never had a real fight. From the looks of the trailers it seems that Megatron will finally have his moments. Best part being in a interview with Empire that Frank Welker will return to play him. I came so far with all this coverage might as well go see it at least once in theaters. If it sucks a golfball through a garden hose I'll swear off the next two films coming and whatever "14 stories" the Writer's Room cooked up.
Speaking of which, the recent Empire magazine (no online article sadly) did an interview with the TF producers and writers on the plan for the movie franchise.
Things that were noted from the interview with the writing room team:
