Having half the budget of the Strain probably didn't help.
As for SK adaptions, they need an oversight company, pretty obviously.

^new cast members. Hope this shit bombs. Don't need a forgettable hippy action movie with stupid kids encouraging Hollywood to make more forgettable action movies with kids
This genuinely looks like a photo for a shitty kid's action show.
So wait, do they mean Airbender Avatar or Cameron Avatar? The alienish landscape makes me think Cameron, but the band of young teens screams airbenders.

Exactly.

Because it is?
First reviews for Blade Runner 2049 are coming in.

It's called The Nice Girls.

Remakes of even one year old material :ok:
Remakes of even one year old material :ok:
tbf this is less of a reboot in the sense of "we need to update this material and sell it to a new audience" and more in the sense of "this TV budget won't pay for ryan gosling and russell crowe"
I'm just sick of female reboots. It's the most cynical, gimmicky excuse to remake or reboot old material and it certainly doesn't help that none of them are any good.
How is such a show gonna last? It'll just end up like other detective shows but with female leads ain't it?
The movie was originally pitched as a TV show, but Shane Black realized a movie would be more interesting, so even he saw potential as a series, but just swapping the men out with women strikes me as uninspired, and they're likely going to change everything except maybe the 70s setting. The Healy character won't be a professional thug and the Marsh character won't be an alcoholic.
This is probably a terrible idea, but if it was about Holland Marsh's daughter working as a PI in the present, I could see that working, because it's at least it's own idea.

The best part about all this is, if you start to complain that these are terrible ideas, Fox can always drum up free publicity and claim critics are misogynists.
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones aren’t expected to reprise
Fuck this shit so hard
It could work. The sequels sucked because sequels to fish out of water movies never work. Will Smith being more confused than we are is funny. Will Smith being a professional isn't. A reboot would work well.
If they wanna do something different, they could try sticking to the comic.
But they wont.

For a minute I actually completely forgot Men in Black 3 existed.
RIP the MiB/Jump Street crossover film
I lost interest at 'Sony.'

What is Max Landis directing that one too??
The sonic the hedgehog live action/CG hybrid theatrical movie is still a thing that is happening. Sony Pictures (surprisingly) bailed on it, so now Paramount picked it up

sure does inspire confidence if even Sony Pictures backed the fuck out from it lol

Did you fucking see TF5 by the same damn writing team?! I did, and I can testify.
Lucy's getting a sequel, and it's all because no one saw Valerian.
Luc Besson's production company is in serious need of cash.
In better news, Jon Hamm has joined the cast of Good Omens as the Angel Gabriel
His role has been fleshed out a bit more, since Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet had already planned on the sequel series to involve more angel characters.
eww lucy sucked
Valerian wasn't awful, it just had riddick syndrome where they crammed three gimmick setpieces and two character arcs into every scene, resulting in a jumbled mess until it was time to blow something up. They also completely failed to give any reason why you should like or be interested in the people blowing things up.
Lucy, on the other hand, was genuinely awful, and while ironically enough subsequent headlines have made it more plausible that a criminal organization could attack a major french learning institution in broad daylight with an entire battalion's worth of firepower, that doesn't really make up for the fact aside from Lucy's initial foray into experimentation, this move was kind of completely bland and painful.
The really ironic thing is Besson could have tied Valerian into the world created by The Fifth Element and probably done much, much better without having to pay royalties or a licensing fee, cause nobody outside of France other than all five people who read Heavy Metal has ever heard of Valerian nor would they care.
"Valerian wasn't awful, but let me describe all the ways in which it was awful"

that was a 'walk-out' movie if i ever saw one dude
OK, Mediocre and Bad are completely different and you being unable to detect the difference thereof explains quite a bit.
