the color grading in this looks great
SO John Krasinki, the guy who played Jim throughout the entirety of The Office, has been trying to make his mark as a director for awhile now. He released two comedy dramas that pretty much fell flat and I guess he just said ‘fuck it’ and went the polar opposite direction: he made a sci-fi horror film. You probably already saw the trailer for it

anyways it just opened at SXSW film festival, and the response so far has been pretty much universal praise lol. Guess the guy found his calling in Horror movies instead. But yea this looks great, can’t wait.
Wait aren't John Krasinski and Emily Blunt married? Funny they'd be in a horror movie together that he's directing.
-nevermind-

reviews are pretty split so far and that reddit post isn't exactly winning me over either
This movie was just incredible. This may not play well with critics, but this is definitely a movie MADE for moviegoers. Every 1-2 minutes, you get an Easter Egg that makes you grin.
yeaaa i am way too cynical for nostalgia pandering bullshit like this lol. I get some people are just gonna be clapping nonstop at each reference that walks by but good god I won't be able to take it seriously.
r/movies is a joke, they would try to sell you even on the worst movie ever using verbose posts that are like the most generic things you can say about any movie ever
"this movie's particular scene perfectly represents a deep struggle in the protagonist's character arc. the acting, camerawork and soundwork are simply sublime" and it's a fucking clip of the dog scene in man of steel or some shit like that

is this "never doubt spielberg" ironic or is this really all it takes to sway you
Eh, it might be worth checking out if it's on Netflix or something. I can deal with non-stop pop culture references, but I feel like the crowd is gonna make it unbearable.
I legit don't get anything out of Spielberg anymore
Did you watch Lincoln?
Just saw the trailer for "Sorry to Bother You" getting shared on twitter.

Seems really good, and with a summer release it means I'll probably be able to see it during fantasia.
I know Ready Player One will be filled with "Remember this? ;)" moments, because the book was. It's probably gonna have great visuals, but man it's not a movie for me.
Well at least it isn't set in fucking New York this time.

I have moderately high hopes about this movie, having liked the first one a surprisingly good deal.
I'm only concerned about Johnny Deep, to be honest.
And no, I don't give two shits about the domestic violence allegations and whatnot. He's just a horrible fit for the character he's supposed to play
No, but I hear it's good.
I honestly don't think I've LOVED a movie from him since Saving Private Ryan although I haven't seen Lincoln or Munich.
You’d probably dig it, if at the very least to see Daniel Day Lewis give a wonderful performance.
http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/929927-fx-has-ordered-a-pilot-from-annihilation-director-alex-garland
FX has ordered a tv show pilot from Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation). The show would be written, produced, and directed by Alex. Plot is as follows:
In Devs, a young computer engineer, Lily, investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend.
kewl, hope it gets picked up
https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2018/03/karl-urban-says-alex-garland-responsible-directing-dredd/
speaking of Alex Garland again, Keith Urban is now claiming that Dredd was actually directed by Alex all along lol. I never knew any of this but apparently production was something of a clusterfuck, and Alex was on set every day and was who Keith went to for direction. Looking around online apparently disagreements became so bad that Alex took over editing the entire film as well.
It’s a shame they had to keep
that Pete Travis guy around the whole time.
Review on Pacific Rim 2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb6aLH5Dke4
Movie feels like a corporate cash grab ala the Transformers movies but also tries to be Gundam. Comes with a sequel hook. Damnit!
Final Score: C-. Guess We'll start our own Gundam movie now.
Couple of trailers for films I thought were interesting.
