Reminds me of Exoduds Gods and Kings. And looked how it turned out
Reminds me of Exoduds Gods and Kings. And looked how it turned out
Classic Shakespeare from competent screenwriters and young, yet not unexperienced director with actors skilled in portraying exactly Shakespeare compared to an ambiguous biblical epic by senile director past his prime with writers of "Tower Heist". I don't see it, seriously.
comparing shakespeare to the old testament is just silly. god was a shit writer and didn't know how to do plot or character development.

As you said, the plot and character development is lacking (in comparison to previously mentioned by me Greek authors, that are more or less from the same, ancient times) but the stories are quite entertaining and interesting - with Moses and Exodus being one of my favourites that can be presented in a stellar way (as proven by Prince of Egypt or Ten Commandments), but Scott's version was just botched and lazy. Shame, because the potential was huge.
its far from being a "mandatory read", i mean, if the themes are so universal as you say why not just go for all the other work that explores them but has actual competent writing?
Knowledge of history and respect for it is important for better understanding of the modern world. By neglecting the original motifs, just because they are underdeveloped in comparison to contemporary works (which is kind of obvious because between then and now writing, just as any other aspect of culture, had more time and resource to develop itself), you may deprive yourself of part of the interpretation - context, or its lack of. To put it in much simpler words - it's always good to know the original source of certain works, be it the book that some film adapted brilliantly, the old and forgotten film that got a cool remake, etc. just to see how it evolved, to notice what was changed and why, to find out how and why it inspired other people to replicate certain elements. And Bible is incredibly powerful in the historical aspect, seeing how those simple words provoked wars, inspired the greatest authors, changed world views, and how people can make their lives revolving around this simple book. It's mind-boggling, and fascinating for all authors. To have that much of an influnce. Besides, not all the writing is shit - 1 Corinthians 13 is one of the finest "poems" about love, despite its simplicity and time that has passed since its inception.

if this film has rachel weisz full frontal, me gusta
if this film has rachel weisz full frontal, me gusta
It's Sorrentino, so I wouldn't be surprised with either hers, or Caine's and Keitel's full frontal. [editline]29th April 2015[/editline] There's actually a trailer:
shit there's tits in the trailer, i'm definitely expecting full frontal.

I blame Rachel Weisz in Enemy at the Gates for my affinity for back dimples.
Next Woody Allen stars Joaquin Phoenix in a surprising for this director role of a neurotic college professor falling for his cute, but troubled student played by Emma Stone. [editline]29th April 2015[/editline] Vin Diesel hunts witches, Michael Caine preaches and Ygritte from Game of Thrones knows nothing [editline]29th April 2015[/editline] Partisan is a coming of age story. Sort of like Boyhood, but instead of being shot in 12 years it's shot in Georgia. With gangs, murders, love and Vincent Cassel as the (not-so) abusive father. Tom Hardy stars as both of Kray twins in a 1960s gangster thriller set in London. I'm hyped as fuck.

He was great in Fortitude and of course Doctor Who.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/c7CsnYw.jpg[/t]
Stephen Amell as Casey Jones in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2'
How fucking weak. That's just goddamn pathetic compared to his original design which wouldn't be difficult to reproduce.
why does anyone even care for it
Well to me it just seems like total cash in with bare minimum effort. It doesn't even care about the original to the point of where it seems to go out of its way to try to do as little as possible.
I'm not gonna try and go out of my way to defend TMNT 2014 because I know it was shit but calm down, it's pretty clear this is the first time Casey has been heading out since it looks like Raph just threw his sai to kinda ward him off. I won't be surprised if he just grabbed the hockey stick and mask out of the boot of his car after coming back from a game. I'm sure by the end he'll have a rucksack full of different sporting equipment and will be screaming Goongala My only major complaint is the lack of long hair since that plus the mask and hockey stick are the most iconic parts of his look.
but at least they didn't pick a shitty actor
I guess movie announcements can go here too http://www.hitfix.com/the-dartboard/its-official-keanu-will-shoot-even-more-faces-in-john-wick-2
Lionsgate/Summit just sent out the announcement, and it's as direct as possible. There will be a "John Wick 2." Keanu Reeves will return as the dog-loving hit man with a fondness for shooting people in the face. David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will return as directors. And Derek Kolstad will once again write the film.
I think it was fine to end it at 1 but it's not like I'm complaining
Agreed. As much as I loved John Wick for its bold and direct simplicity in concept and great choreography, etc, I think there should just be a ban on sequels and remakes for awhile. Try to spur the creative juices of the industry.
Sequels don't erase the existence of the previous film. I'm all for more.
Next Scorsese film: Silence [t]http://i.imgur.com/GdqvRwP.jpg[/t]
Nice, Bryan Singer just announced X-Men: Days of Future Past – Rogue Cut for a July 14 release. About 17 mins longer than the theatrical version
http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/05/indiana-jones-sequel-confirmed so there will eventually be an indy 5, it just needs to be written before anything else happens. if they do cast chris pratt in a reboot role or make him an older mutt, then they have to get ford to return and basically make it into another last crusade with the father-son duo. and please don't fight the russians again, make it like cuban guerillas or something. in other news, an adaptation of brave new world is going to be made by syfy and amblin television http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/05/syfy-spielberg-brave-new-world will poulter is apparently pennywise for the it remake http://variety.com/2015/film/news/will-poutler-pennywise-the-clown-in-new-lines-it-remake-1201446495/

I mean, it could work with that Babylonian, and Assyrian rich history.
if they do the number of years between movies determines the setting of the next movie, that would right now put them at about 1967, so i don't think iraq would work. it would also most likely be host to a lot of political shenanigans.
Bruce Almighty, starring simon pegg
What begins as another heart-broking drama about a difficult subject, quickly turns into a "white people are really fucked up" tragedy with Rosamund Pike. Not that I complain, because this looks truly interesting:
