Dawn is fantastic.
I was so ready for Rise of the Planet of the Apes to suck, but it was one of my favorite movies to come out that year. Still haven't made time for Dawn, though.
Dawn is to Rise as Aliens is to Alien. It's a massive step up. Really great movie.
But Alien is better than Aliens.
They're both incomparable.
I would say Alien and Aliens are VERY comparable, since one of them is a sequel to the other.
I would say Alien and Aliens are VERY comparable, since one of them is a sequel to the other.
They're completely different kind and even genres of movies though.
Alien is a survival horror
i think you are mixing up your video game genres with movies if you're not personally the one trying to survive, it's not a 'survival' anything. it's a horror. i'd say alien is part slasher movie. members of a space ship being picked off one by one by an unknown monster. that's a slasher.
Star Wars has released their official poster.
man jj is going extreme fanservice. even if the film is bad, people will initially love it mark my words
Given who is directing the 3rd I won't be surprised if this follows in the original trilogy's footsteps and the 2nd one in this new trilogy ends up being the best. I trust Rian Johnson, JJ tho is a bit iffy.
man jj is going extreme fanservice. even if the film is bad, people will initially love it mark my words
But that's Nolan's trademark!
not really? the only adaptation/sequel he's done are the batman movies and all of them are completely different to any source material? and sequels of his own movies anyway?
not really? the only adaptation/sequel he's done are the batman movies and all of them are completely different to any source material? and sequels of his own movies anyway?
i thought he was talking about how nolan's movies seem really good at first but get progressively worse the more you think back on them
that only applies to tdkr? all his previous movies are still excellent, and i feel the same way about interstellar as i always did [editline]20th October 2015[/editline]
you have to be blind not to see nolans catwoman is pure fanservice [editline]20th October 2015[/editline] knowing you, you probably pretend she doesnt exist since you hate hathaway
this is true i tend to ignore her
you have to be blind not to see nolans catwoman is pure fanservice [editline]20th October 2015[/editline] knowing you, you probably pretend she doesnt exist since you hate hathaway
tbh i didn't even remember catwoman being in any of the nolan batman films until now

Even if the movie ends up bad, watching those giant stormtrooper battles is gonna be so awesome
Good trailer. I went for from not caring at all to caring a little.
that only applies to tdkr? all his previous movies are still excellent, and i feel the same way about interstellar as i always did
It applies to all of his films, with the exception of maybe Following and The Prestige, but that's subjective. Nolan's films are always accompanied with enormous hype and watching them in cinema feels like the best thing there is, but with time you began to notice flaws, mistakes and other bad things. I used to think that The Dark Knight is one of the best films of the decade, now it's just a nice reincarnation of Batman motif and solid superhero film. Inception used to be the most original movie of our times, now it's just cleverly designed, fresh action film. I agree with Interstellar - after watching it I felt it was rather good, but underwhelming really and that hasn't changed.
i dont know if i ever held the movies THAT highly, but they're still both solid and excellent films. and what about memento?? [editline]20th October 2015[/editline] interstellar was excellent - for 3 quarters. then it completely fell apart and tarnished the film immensely. my opinion has not changed on that and isnt likely to
I remember going to the theater to see Inception a week or so after it had come out, and I was kind of let down just because the hype was so immense. Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic movie but I was expecting my socks to literally explode off of my body.
Interstellar was so good that I didn't even think the last act was that stupid while watching it. Looking back, it's a good movie--great, even. I just think they kinda tied things up badly.
I think I was really just washed away in all the heartbreakingly emotional scenes, it's 10/10 score and brutally tense space scenes (like the docking) before the last act that I quickly regarded the film as being a "masterpiece" Looking back at it now, that ending was pretty dumb and also really rushed, everything until that part you can perceive very comfortably but when [sp]people start flying through black holes only to be pulled out of a cube of bookshelves,[/sp]that's when you know Nolan pretty much jumped the shark.
and what about memento??
The entire film was built around the mystery and twist resolving so dissing it for being less enjoyable after first time watching would be just stupid. I can give that to Nolan that thanks to great acting it's still enjoyable to watch it for the second, third or fourth time, though it won't be as good as for the first time.
Dark Knight will always annoy me for that Jail bomb scene that makes absolutely no sense. Is the joker just immune to the effects of bombs??? everyone just passes out around him lmao. Nolan films make for an amazing first time theater experience, but yeah if you watch them enough/think about it enough you'll find shit to pick away at pretty easily. I still like him, though. I don't think I'll get tried of Memento and Prestige.

I don't think I'll get tried of Memento and Prestige.
I'm in no way saying that Chris Nolan is a bad director. He's one of the few still active that I don't need to know anything about his film to buy a ticket - the name suffices. What he's good at is utilizing the potential of the cinema to the fullest. He knows exactly that going to the movies is not just watching a film, it should be a special experience and for that - kudos to him. He's like an illusionist - he's able to shift viewer's focus from his flaws and mistakes and put them in awe. At least the first time. Later it takes away from rewatching but it doesn't make a film automatically bad. But let's just not talk about Christopher Nolan as a writer, because he's just bad. In that regard he's almost like George Lucas' bad, but without the ego - a really good idea guy, but don't let him write own subplots and dialogs. Otherwise you'll end up with love transcending black holes and "extremely painful for you".
nolan absolutely has the ego
I feel the release of every Nolan movie follows the same pattern: -Nolan movie announced -> Sweet baby jesus I can't wait -A few trailers later -> H-h-h-h-hype train -Movie releases -> For the first 2 weeks fanboys around the world make a pact to name their first born child after the movie. Imdb vote brigades propel recent Nolan movie to the top of the charts. -A few weeks pass -> People begin to realize that recent Nolan movie does not actually cure cancer upon first viewing. Internet arguments ensue. -For the next few weeks, Nolan naysayers and semi-fanboys alike seem to catch a little traction as they dig needlessly into an overhyped movie, failing to realize that they're simply regurgitating arguments already brought up by real movie critics when the film released. -Then everbody grows the fuck up and realizes that Nolan's last movie is still good even if it isn't perfect. Maybe not TDKR, I still don't like that movie and I refuse to grow up. -Then Nolan announces his next movie -> Oh mah gawd, get the lube
Apparently the Childhood's End show is coming in December. Not sure what to think.

The fact that apparently Stormgren is gonna be some American farmer instead of a Scandinavian U.N. official already worries me.

But I do like Charles Dance for Karellen. [sp]And I don't know how they'll do the timeskip part either.[/sp]
