Funny how for both Vikander and Waltz this is a second movie in a very short span about painters in the historical setting (Danish Girl and Big Eyes respectively).
at the risk of coming off as horribly uneducated - those paintings look like digital art

Is that Marion Cotillard? A genuine question.

I'm a bit late on this but fyi in case you didn't already hear it, news is coming in that christopher nolan's next film will be taking place in Dunkirk, France. He's been reported to be touring the area with his brother, and the locals have reported a 'a world-famous director' is gearing up to shoot a big movie there. Obvious speculation is pointing to Nolan making a war movie of some sort taking place during the Dunkirk Evacuation, but we probably won't know for sure for awhile. Here's a French source about it http://www.lavoixdunord.fr/region/dunkerque-christopher-nolan-posera-ses-cameras-pour-ia17b47588n3239911 and a translation:
It's been ten days since Patrice Vergriete announced the filming of an American blockbuster in June 2016 without saying more. According to our information, it is Christopher Nolan who gets stuck with a film inspired by the evacuation of Dunkirk in May-June 1940. It remains to know the key players. The announcement made by the laconic Mayor of Dunkirk was that the city will be the place of the filming of an American blockbuster. Although the municipality is desired to confirm our information that Christopher Nolan will direct. Patrice Vergriete promised "a world-famous director." This is the case with this amazing director who in his creations has dealt with the blockbuster productions of several hundred million dollars and is capable of handling sensitive issues such as memory (Memento) or dreams (Inception), to push the limits of humans in space (Interstellar), or plunge the audience into a dazzling thriller about the world of magic and illusion (The Prestige). His most well known work is the Batman films and now he became interested in History with a capital H. Completely incognito during his recent visits to Dunkirk with his brother Jonathan, he absorbed the territory, its past and the consequences of the conflict. Reassured by the welcome given by the port and the city, he has been sufficiently filled to address, following a shooting authorization request. We know a few things about the American big budget film to be shot in Dunkirk in the spring, even though the secret remains well guarded. The production company Peninsula Film has already contacted all the hotels in the city to accommodate the film's cast and crew.
I'll probably make a thread for it once some more concrete news/announcements come up
So that rumor of Nolan making a movie from an anime was bullshit?
So that rumor of Nolan making a movie from an anime was bullshit?
What?
What?
DenofGeek reported a couple months back that Nolan was gonna be involved in the upcoming Akira film(s) from Warner Brothers. They never claimed he was directing it, tho, just that they think he's gonna play some role in it. So who knows what that means, or ofc if it is even gonna happen.

No names attached for sure, but Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are mentioned. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/chistopher-nolan-mark-rylance-movie-1201662561/

i thought edge was based on a japanese book, not a videogame
i thought edge was based on a japanese book, not a videogame
the book was inspired by video games
imagine if we get the first good movie based on a video game [editline]d[/editline] imagine
There's a Splinter Cell movie coming out in 2017 directed by the guy who directed Bourne's Identity and Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Hardy playing Sam Fisher. Imagine that.
also, i really want to see macbeth, but it isn't playing anywhere near me.
Apparently it's already past its widest release in the US, and it wasn't playing within 250 miles of me at any point, which includes Philly and NYC. How is a release this terrible even possible
there are good video game movies mortal kombat and edge of tomorrow, and resident evil 1-3 since they're basically fan fiction. also of notable mention, final fantasy spirits within (again, fan fiction).
You're forgetting Silent Hill. They nailed the atmosphere in that movie.
Came to the wrong neighborhood, motherfucker.
I literally have 0 excitement for this film. I thought the original was good, but not worthy of a sequel.
Too bad it sucked as a movie.
It was decent enough. The game's story isn't exactly a masterpiece either.
It was decent enough. The game's story isn't exactly a masterpiece either.
true but the changes they made were stupid and tedious and contributed to making silent hill a boring mess

I don't like fox man's voice.
I don't like fox man's voice.
It's Jason Bateman.
It's Jason Bateman.
I know but he sounds so monotone.
Like, have you seen Mortal Kombat recently?
I've seen it recently and it was hilariously bad.
I've seen it recently and it was hilariously bad.
It's beautifully bad
It's sad that even 20 years later we're still using Mortal Kombat as a good example of a video game movie. Like, have you seen Mortal Kombat recently?
It's a good b-movie. And considering that 95% of video-game-to-film adaptations fall into being atrocious, there isn't much room for "great" or even "good" video game based films.
