It's sad that even 20 years later we're still using Mortal Kombat as a good example of a video game movie.
Like, have you seen Mortal Kombat recently?
the dialogue is cheesy as shit, and they actually really mess around with the characters (sub-zero and scorpion are noted as being mortal enemies, but are slaves to shang tsung). that being said, the focus is more on the tournament and the supernatural elements, which it nails.
the upbeat fight music and the gratuitous amount of fights in the movie make it bearable.
also, mk legacy is pretty good, even though that's a miniseries.
also also, cary tagawa is the greatest shang tsung that will ever be

oh and i have to ask, from what i've always heard mk annihilation is god awful, but i've only seen about 10 minutes of it. can anyone verify how much of a turd it is?
mk annihilation is so bad lmao. Even as an easily entertained little kid I didn't like it at all compared to the first movie. Scorpion pops up in it for one scene just to quickly kidnap someone I think, then is literally never seen or mentioned again for the entire movie.
Annihilation is a total waste of time.
The first one, as bad as it is, is still really entertaining and feels like a Saturday morning cartoon stretched to feature length.

Isn't Prince of Persia one of the best video game movies? On it's own pretty mediocre though.

Mediocrity is the best you're going to get on a technical level for a while. You're just going to have to go with which one you think is the most fun/interesting.

not really
it was an awful film that spent more time trying to be a new pirates of the caribbean, and took a neat concept and made ass of it.

Hopefully Rex smashes that cheeto-faced, fish-eating SOB

Also rumors going around that Godzilla will [sp] have three forms in the film. Perhaps we see the healing process. [/sp]

jesus christ
Can't say the new design looks too good.
Frankly I'm gonna have to go with fat Gaijinzilla, he may have thunder thighs that make Chun Li wet with desire, but he has personality and profile-pop. This new one looks like some rejected design from Parasyte or a Contra level boss.

Don't do meth, kids
Not talking about the movie itself but the Legendary Godzilla is my favourite look. Keeps the design similar to the original without looking like a cartoon character.
Legendary godzilla is the perfect design for what that movie was. I think each movie's style and theme fits its godzilla design in their own way.
My biggest gripe is that they have failed to capture what made the '54 Godzilla scary.
It's not his size, his shape, or even his appearance.
It's the fact that he is born of nuclear destruction, he is the embodiment of mankind's lack of respect for nature. Simply him passing through a village irradiates the ground so badly that the aquifer is poisoned. He's unstoppable, the military cannot defeat him, he is a living atomic weapon. The only thing that could stop him was the perseverance of one man, who sacrifices himself to destroy Godzilla with the ultimate weapon, which he also refuses to let anyone ever know that he created it.
To me it's a sad excuse for trying to make Godzilla "hip and edgy".
That is now the movie I am most looking forward to.
No idea what the fuck the movie is about and somehow I feel that's good given the nature of trailers these days. I'm certainly very interested in it.
[sp]London, 1975. Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston) is a young doctor seduced by the lifestyle in a high-rise, an isolated community, cut off from the rest of society in their luxury tower block, and its creator, the architect Anthony Royal (Jeremy Irons). Taking up residence on the twenty-fifth floor, Laing discovers a world of complex loyalties, and also strikes up a relationship with Royal’s devoted aide Charlotte (Sienna Miller). After Laing befriends Richard Wilder (Luke Evans), a documentary filmmaker relegated to the second floor who is determined to provoke the class injustices inherent in the high-rise, a dangerous social situation develops and the high-rise eventually fragments into violent tribes.[/sp]
It's based on a book written by J.G. Ballard in 1975, the same person that written basis for Empire of the Sun or Cronenberg's Crash.
I actually think I'll go into this one blind, I've got a good feeling about it.

High Rise looks excellent. The cast is great and the director is great so I have high hopes.
