Craig's age was one of the main motifs of the last two films. He's too old to play Bond, but since we're used to him that could've been tolerable for the next film. Right now you want Bond that will be able to handle demanding physically films for the next 10-15 years. And while I'm in no position to evaluate Elba's physical abilities you want him to not look like old man running things. He's too old. Clive Owen's too old too.
idk why you keep saying he is too old or looks too old. he is neither of those things? he doesn't look old at all?
To be fair a female bond could be interesting. Not played by Melissa obvs
Can we just make new spy franchises inspired by Bond instead of randomly changing his gender/race? I've seen plenty of bond esque movies but I'm not sure I've seen one with another ethnicity or gender yet. I don't get why it has to be a Bond movie and not a spy flick.
because the name sells. mgm/sony wouldn't let this become the primary series though, they would have multiple bonds going at once if anything, like a bond cinematic universe or something. i hope there aren't any sony agents here, i want credit for that idea.
I really hate movies/reboots that get made "because the name sells and we aren't confident enough in our idea" It's how you end up with the new ghostbusters, new Powerpuff girls, American psycho 2, and many other shitty loosely related movies. [editline]27th May 2016[/editline] If the idea is so bad that you have to tarnish a trusted and super old series to get attention it just shouldn't be made IMO

[editline]28th May 2016[/editline] its one thing to do the whole 'all female reboot', thing because of a misguided agenda, as oppose to actually just picking the best actor for a role regardless of their race or sex
To me Bond is a cultural treasure in film, and the characteristics should stay the same as much as possible. Also "Q" is fucked. "M" had it reasons.
Because Bond, from author's inspiration, to concept, to page, and to screen has always been a white man at MI6. To change that is to change the very character, you may as well make a new one. If you don't care about race why do you insist on changing the race of a 50+ years old titular character? Even all the actors prior to Craig seemed to fill a specific look faithful to source material (if they dyed his hair brownish/black he'd be no different) Why don't we just have Bruce Willis be Shaft while we're at it? I can't wait to see Fat Albert with Patton Oswald. Let's remake Roots, this time starring Chris Pratt. Let's make Wanda Psykes Superman. Maybe the next Batman should be Randall Park. Hulk changed actors 3 times, can the next Bruce banner be Lucy Lou? These are all stupid ideas just like changing any established, iconic character's bare basics is. Bond has been the same character for almost a century. I have no idea where the notion that he suddenly has to be black and bisexual came from but you can just as easily make a fresh franchise around it instead of riding the coattails of a character that's over half a century old. It's also extremely disrespectful to Ian Fleming, who was inspired off his own time in intelligence, it always pisses me off when people do these kinds of changes to characters who's original creators are dead. What exactly is wrong with making a new Bond inspired franchise with these changes instead of altering the actual thing? I'm sure such a series would be more welcome than riding a title. I'd probably rather see the kid playing Finn in Star Wars head the series than Elba though.
idk why you keep saying he is too old or looks too old. he is neither of those things? he doesn't look old at all?
dawg, I know that supposedly black don't crack, but you can see his age on him [t]http://static.celebuzz.com/uploads/2016/01/idris-elba-diversity-11916.jpg[/t] He's 44 now, meaning he would be in his mid fifites in the middle of his eventual run. he's too old, deal with it. [editline]28th May 2016[/editline]
To be fair a female bond could be interesting.
To me Bond is a cultural treasure in film, and the characteristics should stay the same as much as possible.
Basically what I mean. It goes beyond just his race and sex too, wardrobe and weapon of choice is pretty important and consistent as is the score
It's no doubt close minded but I feel the title of Bond generally fits more handsome, mature guys. I'm not even entirely opposed to the idea of a younger Bond but the fact that this guy is rumoured for the roll just seems strange. [t]http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Jamie+Bell+Adventures+Tin+Tin+Photocall+Rome+n4QyinkSzHzl.jpg[/t] Personally for me it'd be a toss up between Elba or Hiddleston.
Gillian Anderson said she would be open to play the role. Emily Blunt's name is thrown around all the time too.
Holy shit I didn't know Jane Bond was an actual idea being tossed about It's not even confirmed and I'm already seeing articles similar to the "if you hate the new ghostbusters you're sexist" garbage. Gillian Anderson would make a great "James bond", sure, but naming it after? Is it really so hard to make a fresh creation? I'm glad to see some of these pieces agree it's relation to bond should be purely in spirit. That even proposes the chance for a crossover in the future. Indiana Jones was a creation that came about because Spielberg wanted to do his own take on James Bond iirc, and it's fantastic. Female spys certainly have a market. I don't think these things need to ride on Bond's title, and feeling the need to shows a weakness of concept imo.
i dunno dude. why? something being a 'cultural treasure' seems like a bullshit excuse to exclude non-whites to me. [editline]28th May 2016[/editline] if you shaved his beard and died his hair blacker idris would look as fresh as ever. all i'm hearing is weird repressed racism. let a black dude play james bond? he is perfect for the role? skin colour literally doesn't matter at all?

[editline]28th May 2016[/editline]
lol you're acting like all actors his age don't look that in real life?
No, I will say the same about every actor who is 44 - he's too old to play Bond. [editline]28th May 2016[/editline]
there are even entire visual effects studios dedicated to touching up actors on screen?
Shit's expensive man. Why wasting money when you can hire someone that looks younger naturally.
Indiana Jones was a creation that came about because Spielberg wanted to do his own take on James Bond iirc, and it's fantastic.
is this something people actually think? because you couldn't be more wrong.

Umm no. If he's too old she sure as hell is too old, she's four years older than he is.
Idris is too old but Gillian is fine? Umm no. If he's too old she sure as hell is too old, she's four years older than he is.
I never said she's fine, I mentioned that she's interested in the role, when the discussion was about female Bond.
So, Katherine Waterston is the new Sigourney Weaver in Alien: Covenant Not that I complain. I hated Rapace in Prometheus, but cannot say a single bad thing about Waterston.
Not sure how to feel about this film. As a director, Ridley Scott did a great job with Prometheus but the script was crap because of rewrites + Damon Lindelof. Covenant has gone from Rapace and no aliens to aliens and no Rapace. Ridley wanted to stay away from the classic alien so it smells like studio interference, the rewrites could fuck it over.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BF9zkdeE3AM/ Kung Fury II incoming.
i thought they were turning the first one into a feature-length film? i guess this is it?
And Jamie Bell is being eyed for becoming the new James Bond once Craig's term is up To which everyone sighed and said okay
Why not Nicholas Hoult? He's British, he's young enough, he could pull off a damn good Bond IMHO.
I don't see it.
so do you think dcraig is too old for james bond??? because he looks great as the character to me even at 48. as would plenty of people
He could pull off one more film, but that's about it. But then he said that filming Spectre was exhausting for him and that was part of the reason for his departure. When looking for new Bond you wanna somebody who won't need to be replaced for the next 10 years.
you could just as easily have a new bond every film. more bullshit excuses.
Ridley was part of the rewrites.
Well shit, I'm still taking no Damon Lindelof as a plus. John Logan is good, Michael Green is hit or miss and I don't know the other guy.
you could just as easily have a new bond every film. more bullshit excuses.
why am i still wasting time talking with you about that if you clearly fail to comprehend even basics of that series
I don't see it.
He kinda looks similar to what Ian Fleming himself imagined the character to look like.
Fleming decided that Bond should resemble both American singer Hoagy Carmichael and himself and in Casino Royale, Vesper Lynd remarks, "Bond reminds me rather of Hoagy Carmichael, but there is something cold and ruthless." Likewise, in Moonraker, Special Branch Officer Gala Brand thinks that Bond is "certainly good-looking ... Rather like Hoagy Carmichael in a way. That black hair falling down over the right eyebrow. Much the same bones. But there was something a bit cruel in the mouth, and the eyes were cold."
[editline]29th May 2016[/editline] It'd be a return to the proper "Bond look", since Bond is not a blonde dude like Daniel Craig.
His face is too boy-ish.
daniel radcliffe for next bond
