Honestly if it really is to flesh out the backstory of Benicio's character more I can't say I mind. His character in the film was fantastic.

Stefano Sollima has made some of the best italian movies in recent memory, so it has a chance of being good. I know, the same director would have been the best case, but hey it might not suck.
