As horrible as it sounds it only means that the only thing he would get if he were to stand the trial then would be a slap on the wrist, psych eval and maybe three months of jail time, because the times back then were shitty and because of a plea deal. His biggest mistake out of all this was fleeing, by staying people would forget about this and probably forgive him (just like Matthew Broderick isn't a blacklisted killer nor Mark Wahlberg isn't a blacklisted racist assaulter). People who want further prosecution are people who just want to score political points on a high profile case, it serves no other purpose - the victim doesn't want it, and for sure Polanski isn't raping small kids in his basement with all the constant media and cop focus on him. The imprisonment in Zurich and chasing him around the Europe is far bigger punishment he would ever get in the 70s. Now this looks like the Oscarbait of the year.
