Considering Merle was shown to be physically stronger than and capable of kicking the ass of every other character but Rick, and the fact that Rick beat the shit out of The Governor until being headbutted, does make it kind of weird that Merle didn't even stand a chance against The Governor at all.

Lets see though, the murders he has committed against Rick's group have all been fairly fair trade's. MAJOR SPOILS FOR COMIC [sp]Negan took only one of Ricks men as payment where Rick had started the shit by killing like 5 of his. Spencer was also a traitorous fucking rat who wanted Negan to kill Rick, he got what he deserved. (Abraham was killed by Dwight so I'm not sure if I should count it)
Meanwhile Rick started shit by killing like 5 guys, then after that Carl went and killed like 8 more people. Then Rick starts a war over a traitorous rat. Negan seems too me like he has gotten the perfect balance between ruthless and caring which allows him to thrive in their world. Albeit he is a bit crazy, but can it be helped in their world?[/sp]

Sympathize is the wrong word now that I think about it. It is more of just loving the characters writing (even though his swearing is off the walls) I think that he is really a contrast to that of Rick but also somewhat comparable.

i think i disagree [sp]while ricks hand was injured and his leg was shot, the governor had a bullet on his fucking arm, also, he was pretty skinny and weak after the whole "i wanna die" episode. Rick, back then, injured and all, kicked Shanes ass the first time they fought, and Shane was one tough motherfucker, so yeah, the governor was kinda overpowered, but he was still a pretty big guy, so it does not bother me a bit[/sp]

And they just got done finishing season 4's filming. I doubt anyone other than the writers/producers know what they're doing with season 5.
