Character development is fine but we really didn't need yet another episode devoted to showing that Carl's a whiny annoying little bitch who fucks up constantly and is only alive at this point because he's a main character and gets lucky, michonne parts were fine

The part where he tried to feed pudding to the Herschel head was hilarious tho

[sp]I dunno why you'd say that since Carl may have went through a shitfit stage but then he eventually realized how wrong he was when confronted with the idea that Rick was *actually* gone. This will probably effect him for the better as a character since he probably realized how much of an ass he was making himself out to be.[/sp]
Favorite episode of S4 so far.

[sp]if carl actually grows up a bit after this episode i'll look at it differently but considering he just saw his home destroyed and his dad having the shit beaten out of him you'd think it'd be a sobering experience, but no, he was acting incredibly angsty and childish like he always does and the whole thing with him guiding the walkers into his own trap really just reminded me of the time he got dale killed like a dunkass, and the fact he had 4 walkers jump on him and he wasted all his ammo and somehow STILL lived is annoying as hell when you consider how any other character besides him and rick would've been fucking dead.
and when he was ranting to sleeping rick about how rick 'didn't protect' his friends was stupid. like bitch, your mom didn't die because your dad was a shitty protector, she died because she was a slut, fucked your dad's best friend, and decided to keep her pregnancy in a world w/o modern medicine, and shane is dead because he kept trying to kill your dad due to the aforementioned fucking.
i hate carl
and speaking of wasting ammo, in the pilot episode morgan fired one shot and the whole area was swarmed by nightfall, yet carl goes and fires a dozen shots and nothing happens. what gives? it added an element of "oh shit, we'd better get out of here" and an incentive to use melee weapons[/sp]
Definitely liked getting the survival and scavenging feeling back for a bit. Looking forward to next week.
[sp] god that episode was dreadful. its not because of the lack of daryl or explosions or guns or whatever, its because the episode itself was bad. they took the emotional rick and carl issues from the comic book and crammed them all into one episode, without really getting the point of what the actual issues were. carl acts needlessly angsty compared to his comic book counter part and his angst doesn't even make sense, as freakysoup said before his sobering experience should have been seeing his home destroyed and his dad nearly dead. but instead he went into the same angst phase we've seen him regress into time and time again. the actual episode itself was incredibly slow too, I understand they needed to take a slow episode to capture the emotional subtext they were going for but there were so many scenes in the episode that was just filler anyway. a lot of what carl and rick do don't make sense in regards to what they learnt, and carl needlessly criticizing rick for trying to set up a home in the prison was out of place and dumb. its pretty clear at this point that the show doesn't know how to handle carl's character, as they don't want a carbon copy of the comic book character but the character they've created hardly makes any sense [/sp]
this is a pretty terrible start to the second half of the season but walking dead rarely lets me down overall, so im still pretty keen for the next episode.
also, the last episode of this season is called "A". What does this mean, do you guys think? Do you think it may refer to (comics) [sp] Alexandria Safe Zone? [/sp]

It's going to be that way for a while. This portion was probably the best part of the comics so far.

Someone deserves more winner ratings.
The thing about The Walking Dead is that the episodes we consider shit are always the build up episodes, so it's only going to get better IMO
Tho [sp]Carl was so fucking close to dying, I got excited[/sp]
I had a very scary nightmare last night: Walking dead came back on and the episode was awful. Rick did nothing but breathe heavily the whole episode, Carl tried to act like he was angry and gave the worst performance of the entire series. They gave Michonne some awkward dream/flashback sequence out of nowhere and worst of all there wasn't even any Daryl.
Thank god that was just a nightmare... gotta stop eating pudding before bed.

[sp]That all happened a long, long time ago. Couldn't tell you how many months it's been in the show since Rick first woke up and met Morgan, etc., but it's definitely been longer than a year, probably closer to a year and a half or maybe even two years.
It makes sense that swarms would have been a much more significant concern back then in the beginning than they are at this late point in the series. In all the time that's passed, they've wandered elsewhere out of the towns, been killed off here and there, etc. There's only precious few exceptions still wandering around inside of towns-- individually or in pairs, or small groups, or the occasional odd straggler who's been trapped inside of a house or something.
So personally none of this really was an issue for me. It made a hell of a lot of sense actually. The dynamics of the swarms have changed is all; they aren't concentrated in towns and cities anymore like they used to be, largely because there's just nobody really living in these places anymore that they can attack and consume. They've had to move on and look for food elsewhere.[/sp]

[sp] there was a 6 month time skip between season 2-3 and season 3-4 i read, so its been a few years at least. [/sp]

The Walking Dead beat the Olympics in ratings last night.
Meh, I think there were worse episodes. The opening was spot on, the rest... eh. Personally, the nightmare was pretty weird.
The episode was great, but i don't know where the hell they're trying to go with Carl. At one second he's awesome then he's plain dumb, then he's adorable, then he's dumb again and disrespectful.
Also [sp]Is that conspiracy about useless baby being alive[/sp] still up?
I don't get the hate. The Carl/Rick storyline was a direct (and awesome) adaptation of a very awesome issue of the comics.
Last time I posted in this thread, I was talking about Carl being a whiny little shit and Michonne being hot. Then they devoted a whole episode to that (No, she doesn't need to throw her clothes off to be hot).
[sp]The shoe situation was the first time in the series for me when I cheered for the walkers. When Carl got away, I actually felt disappointed.[/sp]

It's probably because a lot of people still don't like Carl. Which is stupid because he should be getting a lot better pretty soon.

I was gonna say that, but i forgot :v:
Plus it's a pretty necessary part of the character development going on. But people always want action for some strange reason.
To be honest, I just want Carl to rush through his puberty in the speed of light. I had enough of that when I was 12, I don't need to experience it again from a third-person perspective!

Best scene with Carl so far.
notice how he places down the prop gun

direct? no. awesome? definitely not.
That scene with Carl at the door was great
It perfectly summarised his arc through that episode. He thought he could make it by himself, but he's weak. Important shot.
He was also trying to use a plastic lawn lamp as a weapon
???

Plastic? Those are metal and they're sharp, it probably would've worked if he hadn't dropped it
