Negan (unlike the governor) seems like a case where he started out with the best intentions and the power slowly got to his head.

Comics: [sp]Protection from what? Negan the dictator? He created his own rules and the needs of protection which are not necessary if a proper government is instituted. I nearly wrote out a comment about dictatorship vs communism in a post apocalyptic world but unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge about political governance and fear I might sound uneducated on the matter. But TWD really does make you think about the governance of a post-apocalyptic world.[/sp]
That's (IMO) what made him such a good character
It's going to be hard for me to find something in TWD that will ever top what I took from reading Volume 17.
I hate Negan. He's a complete fucking control freak maniac piece of shit. That said, he's my favorite character.
So since Overkill is doing a Walking Dead game we as employees got 2 compendiums of the comic book to read over winter as our game dev bible, and so I'm halfway through Compendium 2 a the moment, and just got to the part that syncs up with the TV show ([sp]"They're fuckin' with the wrong people"[/sp]) and it's pretty cool.
The TV show took some very weird story decisions. The only really consistent characters between the TV-show and the comic books is probably Rick and Carl, everyone else fluctuates. Some are alive for longer, some die earlier, some don't even exist in the TV show, some characters in the TV show are a mix of comic-book characters (I kinda feel like [sp]Merle losing his hand[/sp] was supposed to cover for Rick NOT doing so in the TV show).
Also the whole Andrea-Dale relationship in the comicbook was very strange to read since I watched the show first and TV-Andrea even opposed the idea when she thought that's what Dale was after.
It's very interesting to read and find out all the things that's different. I think if I'd read the comics first and then watched the TV show I'd probably be disappointed, but it's the other way around now so I still like the TV show, but I'm surprised at how much is gone.

And regardless, I don't read comicbooks often but when I do I prefer to do it properly, with an actual physical item in my hands. Reading them from a tablet or on your computer just isn't the same, and I personally get too distracted with other things if I do.
