I feel like most of the new characters are just bait, with the exception of Bob
Given the characters circumstances, with the time that has passed between Season 3 and 4, they've all been likely[sp]setting up defenses around the prison, growing food, and going out on supply runs[/sp]off-screen.
It was a little underwhelming, but what else could have they done with the first episode?[sp]Other than the botched supply run (I wish Zack didn't die) they set up the next episode perfectly with Patrick's death.[/sp]

the point of that scene was to introduce bringing in new characters, and also ricks 3 questions. And how are we to know there isn't foreshadowing in that scene?

Its been brought up before, but with the potential spoilers you mentioned[sp]Kirkman already stated he doesn't want to chop Rick's hand off in the T.V series. He may be temporarily disabled in someway, but he doesn't want to completely chop his hand off since it'll limit the things he can do as a character.[/sp]
