They're going to make us like the Governor, and hope that he'll do a u-turn and become a good guy or something.
Then just as it's looking up and he's being all fatherly to that girl and we think he's followed the path of righteousness, he'll do something terrible.
I really don't think [sp]Rick and co. would accept him as an allie. You saw how they treated Merle, who did way less shit than the Governor. The only thing I can really see happening is Carol has joined Martinez group and they're going to raid the prison for the girls or something. Carol will probably explain the whole layout or some shit. [/sp]
ech this episode was flat out bad, but the next episode looks really really good.
also, why the hell were lilly and co living as if the apocalypse had happened months ago? It's about 2-3 years in at this point, is it not? how had they survived that long on all that junk food and never going outisde
How did the crazy hermit in Season 3 live so long out in the woods with little contact and practically no knowledge/denial of the zombie apocalypse? How have some people in real life survived out on their own with little food or water in dire situations?
Humans don't need a fortress stocked with an endless buffet in order to stay alive.
That would be crazy. [sp] If the Governor died during the raid, it would actually be pretty emotional if they do the build-up right. I'm liking him a lot more after last night, but I don't want him to team up with Rick, personally. And even if he tried, one of the group members would kill him. [/sp]
[sp]I'm thinking The Governor will die in the assault, but I'm wondering who he kills and who ends up killing him. I'm thinking he's definitely going to kill Hershel, will kill either Daryl or Michonne or Carol if she shows up, helps him, then betrays him, and will get killed by either Rick, Carl, or the little girl. Honeslty, after last night's episode, I would feel really sad seeing The Governor bite the dust, particularly at the hands of the little girl.[/sp]
yeah, would've been better if they'd turned him into the crazy psychopath from the comics who kills people for fun and gets off on it, right? That would've made a lot more sense than him being an actual human being
To be honest, I love Kirkman as a writer, I love the comics, but I will say that Kirkman isn't too good at writing villains. I mean, yeah, it's a comic, but still; he takes this natural, human approach to the heroes and neutral survivors, but the villains are just caricature psychopaths with few, if any motivations. The only thing I can say the show does better than the comics, at least for now, is that it gives the villains a little more character.
Im expecting them to [sp]Make the audience like The Governor again, then when he finally confronts or gets contact with Ricks group they just kill him because he's the bad guy.[/sp]
I dont mind the new turn and all, plus its nice that the gov has left his own daughter behind.
The last scene with the sudden walkers annoyed the shit out of me though. Seeing the new meat act like complete noobs was just too much for me.
What annoyed me the most was how one of them had no idea that shooting them in the head killed them. And was instead just constantly just shooting them in the torso.
I'm in the camp of people who liked the episode. Anything that can cause a sense of sense torn emotions within the viewer is great in my book. In this case, it was looking at the Governor, realizing what a monster he's been, and juxtaposing that past against his very human present.
The whole time I was thinking "wow why am I sympathizing with this guy? Holy crap I'm actually sympathizing for this guy." It helps put things into perspective.
That being said though, I'm pretty sure at this point that he's somehow involved in the disease that was affecting the prison.
Didn't he bring one of those soldiers into the torture chamber before he learned that the prison was cleared out?
Not that I recall but I could be wrong.
I liked the episode, but [sp]I'm surprised people are liking the governor. In the episode recap they show him mowing down innocent people, it's gonna take a lot more than what we saw to convince me he's a changed man. [/sp]

The entire episode they strip him down and make him weak and put him in his lowest point. The Governor at the beginning, when explaining to the family where he came from referred to himself as another person.

The only good WD Facebook post I've seen in a while.
-nevermind- guessing that philip is a nick name the governor adopted
Great episode. It was really well executed; so many torn feelings about the governor. In this episode I wanted to think he's not a total cunt, but then he clearly gets off on pretending to be the hero while secretly being incredibly sadistic. But then it might not quite be the case about the girl, who knows. Can't wait for the next one.
[sp]It be funny if the real Brian Herriot was in this new group.[/sp]

All I can think at this point is if what he's doing has some ulterior motives or something. Maybe I hold a grudge too much but that's the kind of character I saw him as, perhaps that will change in future episodes.
I'm gonna be hated for this, but this is why I like the show more than the comic (well the ones I read, which weren't many), the characters like the Governor and Shane, viewed as antagonists, are given more character than just "they're the bad guys, go kill em Rick". You get to see more about them and see their more human side.

kill them phillip, kill them all
Oh Christ, I just had a thought.
[sp]Carol ends up with Martinez, they raid/attack the prison, and the Governor kills them before they kill Hershel/The kids/somebody people like. Rick will confront the governor, the governor will hand over the little girl. Then he looks at Rick, suggests he could be apart of the group. Then Rick goes through the "questions."[/sp]
I can actually see it now. Broken Governor laugh/crying like the "pirate" scene.
[sp]How many walkers have you killed? How many people have you killed? *bang*[/sp]

Episode title will be "Life of Brian" :suicide:
Anyone find it a bit too coincidental that they give him the name 'Brian', which is the same name as his [sp]brother?[/sp]

The Governor is sadistic in a way, depending on which perspective you rely on. As he justifies it to Milton (rather paraphrased, don't remember the exact lines), "When there's a threat and you take it down, you shouldn't be ashamed of taking pleasure in it."

I don't think this has been explained in the show, only in the comics/novels.
It hasn't but it remains the fact, but just in case they want to butcher the canoncity of his name too, it also makes sense to pick a name other than your own. He didn't know whether or not he had become notorious and theres a chance that upon hearing his name they could've killed him then and there, knowing what he did to other groups. So he had to come up with something quick on the spot, and his brothers name was something personal and familiar. I mean basically rule #1 of making up a fake id is don't create your own name, just think of somebody else you know and use that. Something like Smith Smithyson would be pretty obvious.
This clears up the name thing.

This was probably my favourite episode so far, they're finally building up depth to a character I wasn't expecting to have much.
Very interesting.
-sssssssnip-
good episode but i was a little disappointed by the pacing. imo it felt rather rushed [sp]how he went from being a total stranger to Lilly's family to a father figure[/sp]. maybe they could've elongated some bits and shoehorned some over to the next episode, but overall I think it's a pretty solid one and did its job of injecting some humanity into the Governor.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the TV Governor is actually Philip, not Brian. That's why Penny is his daughter instead of his niece and his wife (Sarah) died. You can also see a notebook the TV Governor keeps of the people who he knew died. Top of the list says 'Brian'.

Morrissey explained it on the Talking Dead, but didn't give any sort of relation to the Governor's brother. He only talked about that barn with the name sprayed onto it. It seems too much of a coincidence to me.
