I really like momentz but without a doubt charger is my favorite of the album, the only songs I dont really like are We've got the power and sex murder party. For what it's worth I havent heard any of the deluxe edition tracks. I found the interludes kind of annoying as well
There's too many interludes. Is it really worth making a single sentence ("Elevator goin' up") it's own track?
My Vinyl still hasn't arrived, so I haven't gotten to listen to the full thing yet
I still think Saturnz Barz is the best song on the album.
i've listened to saturn barz like 30 times
At first Momentz was really jarring for me, but I found that if you just let the song roll through without focusing on the individual elements its very nice
For me personally I find that the pre-release songs (andromeda, saturn barz, etc.) Were by far some of the best ones of the entire album which kind of ruined it partially for me. Also I know that the album's partially about all sorts of weird shit with diversity and people from all over and if "the thing happened" but honestly the only ones that gave me the thing vibe were the pre album release ones. The lack of Damon was kind of slightly disappointing as well. I'm not saying the album was full-on terrible but you're going to have to try really hard to convince me that overall it was better than Plastic Beach. Also holy shit whose idea was Counting those preludes that are literally like half a sentence and less than 20 seconds long as as one of the 40 songs.
I didn't like the album at first, but I've warmed up to it faster than I did Plastic Beach. My favorites are Let Me Out, Charger, and Saturnz Barz. Only songs I dislike are Sex Murder Party and like 50% of Momentz. [sp]Does anyone else think Strobelite wouldn't sound out of place in a Sonic game?[/sp]

Maybe it was because I had played Sonic 3 and Knuckles recently but Strobelite sounds so much like a Sonic level.
My favorite Humanz track right now is definitely [sp]Out of Body[/sp]. This whole album is so good, but I'm really feeling this track.
Submission and Charger are masterpieces the more I listen to them. The way the start of Submission is somber yet you can feel the buildup and tension, and then Danny Brown comes in and he absolutely dominates the rest of the song, blew me away when I first heard it on the leaked stage demo. There's that strumming in the background throughout the song and at the end it bridges into the manic energy of Charger, which from what I can make of the lyrics is a parallel to Submission. You go from two people at their wits end worrying about life to a classic Gorillaz controlled chaos song that's about letting go. They both also reminded me of Do Ya Thing in their own ways, the 13 minute beast of a track with James Murphy and Andre 3000.
Busted and Blue is like the auditorial invision of what I believe to be the descent slowly into Gods arms
Busted and Blue is like the auditorial invision of what I believe to be the descent slowly into Gods arms
its like floating in space and staring at the stars
god damnit, it's been two days and i already like the album a lot more than upon first listen what is it about all gorillaz music that makes it sound better the more you listen to it
Ticker Tape is killer Natural singing voice 2D is the best 2D
Ticker Tape is killer Natural singing voice 2D is the best 2D
Damon Albarn* singing voice. If you like that and Ticker Tape's style, Everyday Robots might be your thing too. Kind of the same mood but it's the whole album. I know that it's Albarn but I always figured you were meant to be hearing 2D singing, not Damon
I know that it's Albarn but I always figured you were meant to be hearing 2D singing, not Damon
Oh yeah I figured, but it's just weird because the voice does change sometimes, I think it's always meant to be 2D but there are a lot of times where Damon drops it and just kind of sings like he does. Charger and We Got The Power are 2D but Busted and Blue and Ascension feel more like it's just Damon. His normal voice and the voice for when 2D does "interviews", and singing voice is completely different, but the Albarn and 2D singing voices are the same except for inflections and emphasis.
I think I realized my biggest issue with this album is that this is the first one that the characters have been so downplayed Unlike plastic beach theres no lore or story to this album , theres only one video and while it's amazing theres only the one? I feel like there hasn't been as much of a focus on the gang and it shows in the album, it just feels like they're not present at all and it's just Damon and collaborators instead of 2D and the gang

So, in what way does the Instagram narrated story things have to do with the new album? Also, this artwork: [t]http://animeroot.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/gorillaz-4-edit.jpg[/t] None of this stuff they showed us before seems connected at all.

[editline]1st May 2017[/editline] i'm gonna be real honest, i don't get all the hatred for "we've got the power" it's probably one of my favorite of the 4 debut tracks :s:
i'd give it a higher rating but he hit the nail on the head with a lot of the criticisms this doesn't really feel like a gorillaz album
people actually listen to Anthony Fantano?
people actually listen to Anthony Fantano?
i watch him because, even though i almost always disagree with him, most of the time he presents arguments or ideas that i didn't consider when listening to an album just because a critic doesn't like the stuff you like doesn't make them bad
I hate to say it but after a couple of listens, [sp]Momentz[/sp] is now my favorite track.
Really don't understand the seemingly unanimous hate for We Got The Power, it's a really good track?
A lot of people find it sappy and too simple lyrics wise, I see where they're coming from because the lyrics on Humanz are probably the weakest they've ever been. I personally don't mind it.
Dude the beginning of Carnival is awesome, especially listening with some good speakers. Also I really like the transition between The Non-Conformist Oath and Submission.
