Star Wars Megathread Episode IV: A New Thread: UNTAGGED SPOILERS? 1 WEEK BAN

TFA being so similar to ANH set a precedent. It's just basing it off past experiences.
Personally I would like it to as unique as possible but I don't expect it to be.
it isn’t even the same director or writer as TFA.
i'm almost looking forward to Finn vs Phasma the most

i'm at the very least making the Discord i'm moderating private and also setting my Steam profile to private too, avoiding all forums and social media channels, then making sure that i get to see the movie as fast as possible
was thinking of disconnecting from the internet entirely and going out, but what if i do manage to get laid and everything goes well until she starts screaming spoilers in the middle of the funsies
We are basically only two weeks and some days away from The Last Jedi and I just realized I don't give a single crap about the struggles, backstories and secrets of the majority of the main cast, save for perhaps Kylo Ren.
Honestly I just want to know what the big deal with Snoke is and what that revelation will mean for the whole setting
I think people like starwars

My brother got himself and me tickets the moment they went online. The site crashed within seconds and by time he was able to get it working about two minutes later, half the seats were already taken.
Luckily we got the best ones - in the back and center of the theater. No idea why no one else grabbed for those, I can't think of a better spot in any cinema to sit.

Yeah, why is it that the "new generation" of characters are so unrelatable? Finn and Rey and Poe just feel like they're along for the ride of Figuring Out How to Kill Off the Previous Trilogy's Cast: The Movie. We already can be pretty sure the First Order and everyone related to it is going to be wiped out in the third film, so the overarching goal of the trilogy doesn't carry much intrigue.

I'm really just going to be watching this next film for Snoke and Kylo Ren, and just because of their respective big glaring mysteries. I hope it isn't awful.

We don't know that.
The Empire survived after all.

Star Wars history is circular

This right here. Literally every era we've seen has had bad guys with red lightsabers leading an evil empire, from the old republic to the first order. The clone wars was the only real change to this and all its political bullshit didn't really make for a much more interesting story. The intrigue of Star Wars isn't really if the good guys will win but rather how they win and how the characters grow through that.
yeah but old republic and shit isn't even canon so this has happened for a second time just now
Plus I feel like when you get into the meat of old republic/kotor its bigger than that. Things feel more balanced out, as if the sides hardly mattered at all. It's a lot less black and white.
There's a theory going on about the very ending of Star Wars: The Old Republic (the MMORPG) about how the Republic and the Sith Empire will actually fuse together and be the basis of the same Republic from the prequels trilogy.
Proofs that are often brought up about this are the fact the emblems of the Sith Empire and the future Republic are actually pretty similar and that the most recent storylines feature the Sith Empire becoming more accepting of aliens and overall less Sith-ish

I always sort of figured this is how things would end, seeing as the main story expansions see your player character [sp]becoming the new Emperor of the galaxy at the helm of an unstoppable alliance of both Empire *and* Republic troops against all sorts of new enemies. Not to mention that this alliance's insignia is literally just the two factions' mixed together.[/sp] The only question really is how the aesthetics work out, since we already know the Sith will split off into the Dark Brotherhood and be wiped out by Darth Bane at some point after this all wraps up.

No this is the third, there was a sith conflict at least 1000 years before the movies in the new canon.
"It’s something that, again it’s like, I would be intrigued," Villeneuve confessed. "I don’t know, it’s very difficult. What is dangerous with Star Wars right now is it’s become its own vocabulary. I would love to see them, I think Rogue One was a very interesting attempt to get out of the mold."

"I think it would be a great idea to get out of there and to go on a new part of the galaxy, that I would be open to," Villeneuve pointed out.
Please let this be a thing that actually happens.
I'd love to see a standalone film that covers the rise of Thrawn in the Chiss Ascendancy.

So someone I follow on Tumblr (Yes, I know that people on Tumblr are notorious for blowing shit out of proportion. Just bare with me) for reblogged this:

Not entirely sure how I'm supposed to feel about this. To be honest, I wouldn't really give a fuck if they made Luke LGBT as long as it's consistent with the past lore (not counting the comics since they're part of the EU, which isn't canon anymore). I think if they were going to do that, though, they'd need to make him bisexual rather than gay since he and Leia kinda had a romantic attraction for each other before they found out that they were siblings (Although, I haven't watched the older films for a while, so my memory's kinda foggy. If anyone wants to correct me on that, they're free to do so).
From the looks of it, Mark Hamill doesn't really give a fuck either, so that's cool.
He probably meant it in a 'he's whoever you want him to be' kind of way.
You know, until one of the stories establishes it differently.
I appreciate what the Tumblr user is getting at but I think the whole monomyth thing ANH has going on is sort of gimped if the hero has no personal interest in the princess at the end.
Daisy Ridley is considering leaving after Episode 9.

Don't blame her. She's probably been non-stop working for years.

Was there any talk of extending her character beyond Episode IX?
For some reason I was under the impression that after 9 we were getting a considerable break from episodes in favor of a bunch of anthology stuff

I was hoping that would happen. I do not think the Skywalker based episodes should go on forever.
The same article I linked, Abarams said he was treating 9 as the end of the Skywalker saga.
Though I'm not sure why it would be up to him.
