Star Wars Megathread Episode IV: A New Thread: UNTAGGED SPOILERS? 1 WEEK BAN

I sort of hope any timeline progression after ep 9 is going to be done in different type of media, comics, books, etc
The same article I linked, Abarams said he was treating 9 as the end of the Skywalker saga.
Though I'm not sure why it would be up to him.
He’s had a major hand in planning this trilogy out, so why wouldn’t it be up to him?

Well has had nothing to do with TLJ.
I just rode star tours and they just dumped a ton of last Jedi locations on me. Saw the snow fox stuff and the red/white planet with the new at-ats. Then it dropped us off at galaxys edge. Was pretty cool.
No clue if it’s spoiler territory but [sp]poe Dameron is one of the people riding those speeders on the red/white poster[/sp]
For some reason I was under the impression that after 9 we were getting a considerable break from episodes in favor of a bunch of anthology stuff
They need to cram like a decade in-between main-series trilogies.
Imagine if it was like the MCU and it's just like STAR WARS EPISODE XII: THE TIME FINN AND CHEWIE TEAMED UP AND WENT TO A NEW PLANET WHERE EVERYTHING IS, LIKE, MADE OUT OF GLASS OR SOMETHING.
Separating each trilogy by a few years gives the story beats some weight; Han and Leia spend all of Empire doing nothing but ducking TIE fighters before heading to Cloud City, yet the standalone nature of the story (and the payoff at the end) makes it a noteworthy event.
Plus, as much as I like the new characters, it'd feel weird for Star Wars to end up as this massive thing where only a small fraction of them actually focus on Luke and Vader and all them, while the vast majority are about Rey and pals.

Nope; he’s an executive producer on it. He may not have written the script, but he still would have had a say in the creative process.

Everything that’s come out of the production has said it’s Johnson’s baby. He was probably very hands off.
I have a few screenings earlier than December 15th, one of them is even in English. Got a ticket, hope I'll be able to make it!
It's pretty unorganized, though. Smart theaters have booked screenings 2-3 weeks in advance, because they understand that Star Wars is huge and they'll get all seats sold at least a week before the actual screening. Other theaters either haven't made their bookings available to ticket selling services (there are a few in Russia), or just haven't made the plans yet. So if I want to see the film in Russian, at the moment I have to get tickets in a theater on the other side of town hoping that other theaters will fix their shit so I'll be able to get better tickets and cancel my previous purchase.
Do you have problems like this in the States/Canada/Europe?

It sounds like JJ didn't even have answers to his mystery box crap. He just came up with some questions in one movie, then handed it to Johnson to figure it out.
To be fair, it was the same with the OT. George didn't have the trilogy entirely thought out, and made Major changes after ANH and even ESB. Leia wasn't always 'the other' and Luke's sister, and Vader wasn't always Luke's father.
Leia had a British accent one second and American then next.

ANH didn't really leave a bunch of stuff mysterious though. And it's different when you know you're the one who has to figure out what the next part of the story to tell is. I think I'm just tried of JJ's schtick is all.

iirc from the commentary track for the blu-ray of ANH, that was because she was imitating peter cushing at certain points

I hope after Ep 9 we'll get The Old Republic stories instead. Playing the MMO and KotoRs really makes me want to explore more of that world. That said, I haven't completed any of these games(you can't complete TOR but I mean I havent done all storylines), but I really would love to see more of it explored on big screen. It wouldn't make sense them being Episode 10 obviously, and I actually hope we won't get Episode 10 any time soon, but we'll get some other multi-movie storylines instead.
Well Rian's trilogy is supposedly going to be away from what we know of, that could mean time period.
The TLJ Cast was on Jimmy Kimmel

Started rewatching the OT in preparation for TLJ. The original film always surprises me in terms of how well it works as a standalone movie. Star Wars is so huge, you tend to forget it could have gone the other way

These people are pretty much all delightful.
[sp]He's going to try to convince Rey that darkness must be embraced for her. Luke has gone a bit dark over the years. She still being an idealist disagrees and flees but over the course of the film she realizes the darkness within her must be confronted or it will destroy her. She meets Kylo ren again and admits she needs training in the darkside but Kylo is amid a light side conversion where no matter how many dark acts he commits he still feels this powerful pull to the light. Rey is broken by Snoke before a conflicted Kylo flees seeing how powerful Rey truly is when embracing the dark side, knowing Snoke will have her destroy him as a test of her power which came to Kylo in a vision. Kylo wants to discover his purpose and make amends for what his grandfather did to the Jedi. He goes to turn himself over to the resistance and offer them his help but on the way he is intercepted by Luke who offers to train him in the light side of force if he agrees to use his training to eventually confront and destroy Rey, who *big spoiler* was the one who destroyed the Jedi at the temple. This is the big I am your father moment of the film Kylo sees a vision of a child Rey being taught the force and her uncontrollable power exploding throughout the temple killing the Jedi. The knights of ren thing had nothing to do the Jedi Temple and was a red herring, Kylo never actually trained under Luke at any time and was found by snoke early. This is why Luke in the trailers says He wasn't afraid of the power before, but he is now.[/sp]
It's copypaste, but a theory just to screw with everyone. Since I didn't make it, lazy.
Also Chewbacca is Reys' mother. You guys would believe anything.

[sp]Snoke is actually Thanos; the last infinity stone is inside Luke's saber that was found in TFA[/sp]
This is true.

[sp]Seriously, Dark Rey/Light Kylo theories are always such bullshit. Like they'd actually make the first female Star Wars lead the villain and replace her with yet another angsty white dude. That's franchise suicide at this point.[/sp]
Sometimes I feel like Episode 7 would have been better if George had a more influential role.
It's like all the shit talk about the prequels but at least they did something original. Hopefully the last jedi proves to be more original than 7

I'm glad the First Order's design is quite memorable. Prequels are universally shat on but I absolutely love the design of droids(especially Super Battle Droids) and Grievous. Even though First Order looks quite similar to Empire(I assume that's the whole point of it lore-wise), but the Separatist army is so different from what the Republic/Empire/Rebels have.
prequels had a lot of cool stuff that i really think added a ton to the world of star wars
It's generally agreed the stuff in the prequels is great, the movies themselves are just ass.
All it takes is a look at the shows or Battlefront 2's campaign to see how the prequels are a ton of cool ideas executed really poorly.

In the hands of people who know how to write characters, they could have easily stood alongside the OT quality-wise.

[Spoilers about The Last Jedi plot speculation]
[sp]If the main plot will be about Snoke trying to gather together two strong Force wielders, one of light and one of darkness, for a yet unknown purpose I'd rather have Rey turn into a dark anti-hero or anti-villain than have her remain one of the most boring, female-empowering Mary Sue heroines I've ever had the displeasure of watching in a movie.
And no, I don't want us to have YET ANOTHER DISCUSSION on this opinion of mine. Let's just agree to disagree, ok?[/sp]
