like I don't mean to be that guy that says anybody elses opinion is wrong but I honestly can't imagine anybody watching this movie and giving it anything higher than a 6/10
I hope people enjoy it and I'm the crazy one though
idk i enjoyed it. I will rewatch it next week with some friends so i'll get a better review
I enjoyed it, but it felt really all over the place.
There were more scenes than i'd like where i stopped for a second and had to remind myself "Oh, wait this is a star wars movie."
The [sp]fight between Luke and Kylo just looked terrible in my opinion[/sp]
I'm not even exaggerating. I really liked TFA, I liked rogue one, I even like the prequels. I'll watch and enjoy some absolute shlock but
that was one of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory
The intro to the movie was so dumb. [sp]Literally Poe prank calling Hux and ending on a "your mom" joke? Really?[/sp]
is mark ok

i feel like it's actually going to be less divisive than this thread is making it out to be, i was checking out the reviews and they all say it's pretty good - even though it drags a bit in the middle.
Seeing the negative reaction in this thread is pretty worrying tbh.
went to a midnight screening and honestly wished I saved my money because I’m so tired today and I definitely don’t think it was worth it. It was pretty garbage imo
[sp]Mark Hammill was good, the chemistry and interaction between Kylo and Rey was good, everything else related to the plot was just bad, the CGI was fantastic but CGI doesn’t hold a bad plot together.
Too many random unconvincing side characters, who pop up, say a few lines and then go, written in such a way that you know barely anything about their motivation, but also in a way that means the whole movie hinges on them existing. I suppose they’re there to increase the character base to make toys from. The code breaker guy is the main offender in this regard. Snokes death was a good twist, but also seemed like such a waste of a genuinely good character as well given the circumstances above.
Also If you cut the entire casino sequence and have them say “the destructor is so big it won’t notice one tiny ship getting through a crack in its shields” you’d have a better movie.
[/sp]
This movie and Battlefront 2 have now killed Star Wars for me. The Last Jedi felt like a George Lucas movie without any of the Lucas's good aspects, like creating new and interesting world designs or eye for little details, combined with the ESB. Franchise fatigue kicked seriously in for me during the watch.
The intro to the movie was so dumb. [sp]Literally Poe prank calling Hux and ending on a "your mom" joke? Really?[/sp]
As stupid as that may sound I think it's a reference to the fact [Spoilers from a recent SW novel, I can't remember which] [sp]Armitage Hux is the bastard son of a former Imperial high officer, the result of an affair with a female servant of his.[/sp] So the jokes has some kind of "canonical" importance or something.

Mind you, nowadays there's usually a huge divide between critics and audience reactions when it comes to movies.
I hate to use myself as an example, but suffice to say I've learned soon enough to distrust movie press reviews about any film whatsoever utterly and completely
I'm seriously doubting the movie is as bad as some of you are saying. How can it be worse than the prequels when the prequels had basically nothing going for them apart from their art direction and soundtrack?
The new movie at least sounds like it nails most of its core characters (Rey, Kylo, Luke, Leia, Poe), even if much of the window dressing could have been cut. And the characters were what made TFA so enjoyable for me, so I get the feeling I'm going to enjoy TLJ just fine.
so can you people that didn't like it explain why without needing to use spoiler tags?
what other movies is it similar too?
This is literally the only place I'm seeing people shit on it constantly.

Check out Star Wars Leaks then.
You mean the people who have always freaked out about the tiniest shit and are basically the No Mutants Allowed of Star Wars?
It was a movie. I wouldn't call it a good Star Wars movie, but it was a watchable movie of you were looking for something to do with your time.
[sp]All the humour just didn't fit with what I expected of a Star Wars movie. And the Finn/chick romance was bleh. It was okay at first but most of the Casino World stuff was just bleh and the end of that plot was pure garbage. The whole "What makes us different of the empire is that we don't fight to destroy our enemies but to save what we love" speech just felt... Forced? Or something.
And the Luke v Ben fight was just shit. Oh we're fighting and shit's going down and if you kill me I'll fucking haunt your ass kid except I didn't really die except I really did. I wouldn't have trouble with it if it was for real. And maybe the most touching moment with the fuzzy dice except the fuzzy dice weren't real either so fuck that too and your dog while at it.[/sp]

Fuck shit accidentally spoiler tags I keep forgetting it's [sp] not
.

I went in with zero expectations, given that I was never fond of the concept of these "sequels" to begin with. In fact, knowing what I do about the film, I almost feel vindicated. Not to mention, villains tend to be rather important selling points for me, and the antagonists of these movies are [sp]risible in how horrendous they are.[/sp]
[sp] Can't forget the Princess' space superman scene what the fuck man, that'd've been the perfect scene to write her out too.[/sp]
[editline]14th December 2017[/editline]
Motherfucking autocorrect, it's [/sp] not [/so].
It's sorta divided on Reddit, at least from the no spoilers posts I saw (though within there were some things I would consider to be spoilers. Not going in completely blind now, but oh well). But overall while there are some people voicing their distate, it seems that it is a hit.
I really enjoyed[sp]Dr. Sattler's 1h 30min long space chase with the First Order until running out of fuel and slipspace driving her starship into the enemy fleet, which caused the 30min Casino Royale adventure of Finn & new fan-favourite Rose to be completely irrelevant to the plot.[/sp]

[sp]I think this scene really set the tone for the movie for me... Suddenly Luke's whole magic trick while fighting Kylo didn't seem so ridiculous.[/sp]

It's like [sp]the plot is purposefully blue-ballsing you.
leia dies in an explosion > oh no she uses the force.
kylo ren turns > oh no he's just getting more powerful.
luke dies (from being bombarded by AT-ATs) > oh no he has some force magic going on > oh no it was just a force ghost type thing he's actually still on his island > oh no he really dies.
finn is making the ultimate sacrifice > oh no some chick he just met saved his life.[/sp]

My friend liked TLJ and described it as, "the most un-starwars-like star wars movie ever."
[sp]Snoke's ridiculous face after getting stabbed is going to become a new meme, I'm calling it right here.[/sp]

It was a real life Disney soap opera that happened inside spaceship interiors, in space, on an island filled with reptile-nuns and Pokemon, yet another desert planet, and on French Riviera. The character of Luke was completely out of place, as he had lots of Marvel quips and wits and he even[sp]drank from Alf's testicles at one point.[/sp]There was a lot of stuff happening that was completely irrelevant to the plot, and the soundtrack was such a lackluster that Disney probably dug John Williams out of his coffin to compose this.
Even Phantom Menace is a better movie than this. It is atleast audio-visually pleasing. The Last Jedi is the dullest Star Wars movie so far, and I'm including Attack of the Clones on the list.
oh no
I don’t believe a word of that based on all of the other reviews
Man this thread contains the most outright hate on this movie I've so far seen anywhere
Just saw it, quick review, no spoilers but i'll tag it anyway
[sp] it wasn't a bad movie per say, but I never got goosebumps. No "Red 5 standing by" moments.[/sp]
