If ESB came out today, the time scale shit would utterly, utterly kill it among viewers. Let's not pretend that stuff wasn't completely mind bogglingly stupid with how it either came down to Luke taking mere days at best to learn the force under Yoda or it took Luke's friends months and months to reach Cloud City.
Saw it and liked it,at no point i feel like i wasted my money so yea i give it a thump up
What is even the criticism of the movie? I watched it last night, it wasn't flawless but it was pretty fucking great, in my opinion. It's up there with Empire, though I'll need another watching (of both) to decide which is superior.
There was some ridiculous scenes that really cheapened the movie. The way some character plots were treated was also shockingly bad, along with an entire B plot that went nowhere. I didn't hate the movie but there was some seriously questionable decisions made in the making of it.

There was a lot of hate over TFA for having a similar big thing, and given some of the outspoken comments of some of the cast I imagine the thing was probably a big deal to one (or two) of them as well.

Not to mention the ones who just obnoxiously parrot RLM and the ones who contradict themselves in their expectations, going from "TFA was too similar to classic star wars, what the fuck, give us something new" to " TLJ is so different, what the fuck, where's my classic star wars ?". At this point the star wars fanbase has a lot of people like this and they're just background noise, hostile to anything that's new and overly criticizing of things that they're also really quick to praise about the OT without really thinking about what they're saying. Oh and a lot of the "negative" reviews on RT are the kind of attention-seeking metabombing you'd expect, or just the usual gross misuse of rating systems. People going "I liked it a lot but one part was bad so I give it one star" or memelords going "ARMOND WHITE LOL GET IT /tv/".
Went to the midnight showing with my fiance, and while I felt that the film rushed to resolve some of the plot surrounding certain characters way too quickly, I otherwise really enjoyed the film. They did a really really good job. Although it's only fair to state that I'm a massive Star Wars fan anyway so I was probably going to love this so long as it didn't include any prequel level awkwardness.
I actually really enjoyed it..don't know what the fuss is. It was actually pretty good. Lots of little humorous moments and they went a different direction. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
[sp]Incoherent nonsense with twist after twist, 4/10 from me. Episode 1 will always be the worst for me, but this is second. I quite liked Episode 7, but everything fell to the ground in this movie. Who was this mysterious Snoke? Dunno, he's dead. Is Kylo Ren good or bad? Double agent? Just a confused boy? Ok, evil? Make up your mind. Rey's parents? no one, at least till the next plot twist. Luke and his jedi suicide. Fuckin' birds so we can sell more toys to kids. Leia force scene, what. Asian girl, why. Entire Casino part, poor CG everywhere. TOO MANY PLOT TWISTS on a very thin plot. [/sp]
I don't get why [sp]they included Yoda but didn't have the decency to at least bring in Obi Wan arguably someone more important to Luke and more sympathetic to his struggle and failure, since he failed Anakin as Luke failed Ben. Is Disney really that much against the Prequels to not even include Ewan to include an Obi Wan cameo?[/sp]
I dont think it has anything to do with that. [sp]I would of loved Ewan to come but im sure the fans would wanted actual old man Obi wan and that just not possible. Yoda was more fan serviceable. [/sp]
What visionary thought it was appropriate to show Luke Skywalker [sp]pathetically slurping a naked mole rat's boobs? Those tits were too human looking[/sp] :s:
The one thing running through my head when I saw that was that [sp]Rey had to be thinking "damn, bitch, you live like this?"[/sp]
There was way too many comedy bits in it. I think it was really detrimental to the film.
I think Disney movies have the same problem Call of Duty games have. In a vacuum, any one installment in the series is great. But when each release is essentially a retread of the previous release with minor adjustments or variations, it becomes tiring very quickly, even if the installment is still objectively "good".
There was way too many comedy bits in it. I think it was really detrimental to the film.
Besides the [sp] Prank call stalling gag at the beginning of the film[/sp] I thought all of the jokes landed, but they didn't go overboard with it.
There was way too many comedy bits in it. I think it was really detrimental to the film.
The very beginning had a lot of laughs per minute, which had me worried that they were going with a full romp with it. Thankfully it settled in, and the comedy was more bearable and spread out after that. Other than that and some select scenes, I really liked the movie, but I can totally see why some wouldn't. It's tentatively in my top three in the franchise after one viewing; seeing it again Saturday so that'll give me a chance to do some reevaluating.
Did anyone else feel that the tone in the trailers is the COMPLETE opposite of the movie itself? The trailers made it feel like dark, gritty romp like Rogue One, if not even better, but the movie itself is so nonsensically goofy that it hurts to watch at times?
I was let down. I don’t think that I could say I didn’t like it, cuz there was some good stuff in there, but yeah. 6.5/10
Besides the [sp] Prank call stalling gag at the beginning of the film[/sp] I thought all of the jokes landed, but they didn't go overboard with it.
[sp]Leia floating her way back to the bridge[/sp] was a bit much tho.
I personally don't like at all how they handled [sp]Luke. I don't like the mentality of them killing most the OT characters off. I think at least Luke should have stayed to help Rey rebuild at the end of 9 and to have an optimistic outlook going forward. I just feel like Luke was given a finale he and Mark Hamill both didn't deserve and I feel there is much more to his character that we aren't able to see. We really don't get to see his raw strength aside from his force projection but we don't even get to see much of his skill in combat. I get they want to remove his legend stigma but he really deserved better than this especially since he never makes peace with his most loyal friends like Han, Chewie, R2, 3PO, etc etc. Considering how big of a character is it felt a bit insulting that they treated him like someone who is easily expendable.[/sp]
I know it's star wars but [sp]at the start why the fuck did that girl not die when bombing bay was open? y know vacuum and shit, they usually have forcefields if they need a divider[/sp]
I honestly enjoyed Episode 3 as a film more than this maybe I just have to sit on it more but even overnight I'm still really pissed at this film
Disney movie reviews are about as independent media as Pravda during the height of communism.
I really enjoyed the movie. It doesn't play out like a star wars movie at all. It's a little frustrating to see the same people criticizing the force awakens for taking no risks now also criticizing the last jedi for actually taking risks.
Disney movie reviews are about as independent media as Pravda during the height of communism.
If you actually take a second to check the user reviews you'll notice a lot of them are just as, if not more dishonest and manipulative than the "official" critic reviews, just in the opposite direction.
Here are my, as well as some other's, thoughts on the film. Be warned though, it's long and has spoilers. [sp]https://pastebin.com/KgEY3Fgd[/sp] Feel free to criticize my points or add onto them.
Is Disney still pushing that one chick as the penultimate Mary Sue, or did they reign her in a bit by making her more human and relatable?
entertainment wise this latest Star Wars film is filled with a lot of action, but in the grand scheme of the franchise I wouldn't rate it as high as its predecessors.
I haven't even seen the film, but why did they give this guy an entire trilogy before his film is even out?
Is Disney still pushing that one chick as the penultimate Mary Sue, or did they reign her in a bit by making her more human and relatable?
They made her worse.

I'll be honest I really miss the prequel fight choreography. Yeah there were a handful of small issues but they really kept you entertained. [sp]The fight scene in TLJ against the red guards felt a bit all over the place. The camera work was pretty sloppy.[/sp]
