[Sp]Leia flies through space using the force. Very cheap play on the audience's assumption that Leia will die because her actress did.[/sp]
[sp]Filming was completed before Carrie died.[/sp]
Just checked Jedi and Empire - wasn't there
Maybe I'm listening for the wrong thing, because it is there in both of those. [editline]15th December 2017[/editline] Oh I was listening for the wrong thing
Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans
Is Disney still pushing that one chick as the penultimate Mary Sue, or did they reign her in a bit by making her more human and relatable?
Both.
Just checked a camrip, it's there! Feelsgoodman
Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans
Jake Lloyd hates both more
Not sure why you needed to check a cam rip, the soundtrack is out on spotify, and probably youtube
[sp] But the impact also destroyed/critically damaged the entire fleet behind the ship. Anything Star Destroyer size or greater is just a giant bullseye for an asteroid fitted with lightspeed engines. There is no way a Star Destroyer is anywhere near cost efficient when the enemy can build a block of metal with less mass and less complex internals and just ram it in without any countermeasures. [/sp]
[sp]Hyperdrives aren't quite like engines. From my understanding, it's not as easy as just strapping one to an object, you need to wire the whole thing up to be able to go into hyperspace.[/sp]
[sp]kind of bothers me honestly that he just did the nostalgia thing and didn't really create an original score.[/sp] that was one of the major complaints I had with TFA and TLJ didn't really fix that, it just took [sp]already established scores and utilized those instead for nostalgia browny points.[/sp]
Is Disney still pushing that one chick as the penultimate Mary Sue, or did they reign her in a bit by making her more human and relatable?
I don't understand your use of the word "penultimate" here
I'm surprised [sp]luke didn't sense Hans death [/sp]

[editline]15th December 2017[/editline]
I'm surprised [sp]luke didn't sense Hans death [/sp]
[sp]That's explained in the movie, he cut himself off from the force[/sp]
I will admit though, [sp]hearing TIE Fighter Attack again as the Falcon dived into the crystal caves put a huge grin on my face.[/sp]
-late-
I'm surprised [sp]luke didn't sense Hans death [/sp]
I think the only reason [sp]Leia could sense it is because of her bond to Han. Otherwise, Han isn't very significant to the Force, and Luke probably couldn't pick it out among the general "noise" of the Force as a whole.[/sp]
The resistance bombers got a name change, they're known as MG-100 StarFortress now, not B/SF-17 Heavy Bomber. I'm guessing that book that came out in September was using an old name.
Not sure why you needed to check a cam rip, the soundtrack is out on spotify, and probably youtube
I'm just a fucking dumbass. Don't know why that hasn't occurred to me, thanks. I wonder how they approached dubbing, considering Carrie Fisher's passing. I kind of always assumed dubbing is done 3-4 months before the movie is released, so that the creators have the mostly final edit and they know what additional dialogue they need recorded - but Carrie Fisher died a year from release, so how did they do it?
in that one Snoke scene, [sp]why was Palpatine's theme used so prominently?[/sp]
I didn't notice that the first time around, but that kinda solidifies my theory a little bit. [sp]Somehow, I don't think we've seen the last of Snoke. He was killed off way too quickly without any explanation as to who he is or where he came from or how he's so powerful. In some way, shape, or form, I see him returning in Ep9.[/sp] [sp]In the new canon, Palpatine apparently had a bunch of observatories where he would just sit alone and watch something way off in the far reaches of space. Whatever that thing is, he was very interested in it. I think it, Palpatine, and Snoke are all somehow connected. Maybe like Qui-Gon figured out the way to appear as a force ghost, Palpatine, thanks to said thing, figured out how to manifest himself in physical form and appeared as Snoke? I don't know, something like that. There has to be a reason we still know next to nothing about Snoke.[/sp]

I'm going to be really upset if [sp]Lando doesn't show up in XI. He probably will, but he's fucking 80 at this point, he might not be able to, you know, anything can happen[/sp]
Ren vs Kylo.
His own worst enemy
Apparently a snap I submitted to "Our Story" on Snapchat, with the intention of only getting on the campus story, made it to the national TLJ story. [t]https://i.imgur.com/mfTRaM8.png[/t] So that's pretty neat. If I'd known this'd go national I'd have shaved and made my bed for it and not looked so much like the fat schlub I am.
Planning to see The Last Jedi after this weekend. I can't help but be worried that they're going to find a hamfisted reason to kill off Luke and not even do it justice by having him fade away like Yoda and Ben did. I think that the lack of a playable hero of old Luke or Snoke in Battlefront's TLJ tie-in is rather telling, even if neither of them really fit into the single-player story. I do so hope I'm wrong.
I'm just left wondering how the first order manages to function properly, it seems most all of the top brass are horribly myopic strategists who fall right into traps, and they are so far up their own ass that they cant conceive of being outsmarted despite the fact it KEEPS FUCKING HAPPENING.
I know this sounds like Star Wars blasphemy (especially in light of the prequels) but I really needed more information on the politics of the world, especially in The Force Awakens which established the stakes. In TFA it was very unclear to me what the balance of power between the Republic and the First Order was, especially with 30 years distance from the death of the Emperor. Were the FO a growing rebellion against the Republic, a reversal of the stakes in the original trilogy? Was the Republic a tiny, scrappy force attempting to make a stand against the fractured but strong Empire? Were they on equal ground? And why was "The Rebellion" treated as a separate faction from both the Republic and the First Order? It wasn't until a rewatch of TFA a few weeks ago (and the title crawl of TLJ) that I fully realized the Starkiller Base firing sequence (where an unidentified planet we have never seen before is destroyed) was meant to communicate that the entirety of the new Republic had been ground out.
My last critique for now, I feel like this movie doesnt want to end like [sp] That scene where Ben ask Rey to join him and create a new order, I thought that was the scene where the movie was gonna end, but nope the movie keeps going! Then I thought after that really cool scene where the Resistances's big ship crashes with Snoke's Ship and then the Resistance retreat to that abandoned planet was gonna be the end, but nope it just keeps going! [/sp]
Maybe it was because I saw a late screening but the movie felt like it was four hours long, I expected it to end at least an hour before it actually did. To be fair I did really enjoy the third act so that wasn't as much as an issue. Still, I was having flashbacks to all the Return of the King multiple ending jokes from back then. [editline]15th December 2017[/editline]
I praise what I felt like was subversions of the audiences expectations
There was a pretty darn good balance of fanservice and subversion, I felt. Sure you had pandering-ish moments [sp]Leia uses the force! Yoda is back and he looks like the ROTJ puppet![/sp] but also a lot of swerves [sp]Rey's parents are... nobodies! Snoke's true identity is... just some asshole! and he's dead now! Luke is dead and never leaves the island, much less levitates his X-Wing out of the water[/sp] that certainly went against all the fantheories and hopes. Intentionally or not, it felt like Rian et al were saying "you thought TFA was too safe, huh? well get a load of THIS"
edit:
In TFA it was very unclear to me what the balance of power between the Republic and the First Order was,
I think the new republic was the big force, with the first order being a smallish group relatively, and the resistance was secretly funded by the republic to fight them. But I've not seen the force awakens in a while.
There's a good theory for the hypserspace thing: [sp]Ships have dampeners and locks or whatever to make sure that ships can't just ram them like that or always run away if in close range, it's mentioned several times in Legends. Hux and the fleet had theirs off, as they wanted the rebel ship to try and jump and waste the rest of its fuel, as it was too fast for them to catch up with while normally running and a jump knocking out their reserves would be all they need. Since they didn't expect the ship to ram them, and were very cocky, they didn't have them on and weren't expecting a ram.[/sp]
The cruiser scene alone was the biggest saving grace. The entire theatre let out a gasp, that was beautiful. I had wanted to see what that would look like after the final battle in Rogue One and I am completely satisfied. The writing however was a bit shit.

But my favourite scene was [sp]when Luke and Kylo Ren faced off towards the end of the movie, with the menacing AT-ATs surrounding them. Looked like the final battle of a fighting game, haha.[/sp] [editline]16th December 2017[/editline] Also how fucking cool were Snope's personal guard?
Also how fucking cool were Snoke's personal guard?
Especially after the baton dude in TFA [sp]it's cool to see more anti-lightsaber fighting techniques[/sp]
