my favorite part was when the porgs travel back in time, jump on top of each other and wear a coat to disguise themselves, meet obi wan, fall in love and conceive a child who they drop in jakku to prevent her from assassination attempts.
I don't think the issue is so much the general idea of [sp] surviving in space and using the force to move yourself [/sp] but how it was done. To have [sp] Leia survive an explosion where she should have died, then be floating unconscious and freezing out in space for a short while, only to suddenly wake up and decide she's suddenly going to use the force (for the first time) to magically fly back in a pose like Superman when she's character who has never actually had any manifestation of actual conscious force power usage before was just entirely absurd. It looked absolutely stupid and took away from what would have been an emotional, impactful, serious scene because of how out of place it is both in tone and in context with Leia herself. She did have some very slight force sensitivity hinted at previously with the connection to Luke and Han, but what she did still felt utterly random and silly because it was unprecedented for her and lessened the scene with it just looking so comical.[/sp]
[sp]we’ve had very little material between ROTJ and TFA that focuses on just Leia, she could have done something similar before that we don’t know about yet. 30 years is a long time ke[/sp]

It fits in the sense that Leia is a Skywalker and Jedi could do that, but it was still far-fetched and silly.[/sp]
[sp]She wasn't killed by the explosion though, she was just sucked out. i did think it was shot kinda badly tbh[/sp]

Yes, but you have to go on only what we do know and just what the films have shown us, and considering that it was random and out of place. You can't just say "Well maybe something happened before, we don't know!" to make up for poorly done moments. Random speculation and guesswork about something when there's no actual evidence to think that isn't a fix for the scene being an issue within the movie itself and what we have seen of her so far.
[sp]She wasn't killed by the explosion though, she was just sucked out. i did think it was shot kinda badly tbh[/sp]
I didn't say she was, i said should have been. Just that was a bit far-fetched on its own.
Look [sp]people are pissed not because she used the force when she was in space, but they way its filmed. Its almost comedic even though it wasn't the intention. My reaction was more of a 'wait what what the fuck'[/sp]
[sp]i said that i thought it was shot weirdly though, i thought it came out of nowhere. probably my least favorite part of the movie[/sp]
I might get flak for this but Daisy Ridley acting had been kinda 'meh' she's not bad or good, but I simply don't feel like 'woah she's great as the main character!'
She's suffering a bit from both marry sue and not being given really enough time to do anything, like she's been doing a marathon sprint in both movies, even when she's [sp] following luke around his island, she's doing so with a sense of urgency[/sp] and she's also [sp] like stupidly skilled in the force, and overpowered. Ya she grew up on "shithole" jaku but like kylo ren has been training for decades, under both a sith lord and luke skywalker, he should by all rights mop the floor with her in an even fight, even if she's got strong force powers. Remember, she won TFA because he was pretty badly injured and yet she only just matched him, while he struggled with a large blaster wound in his side and other injuries. [/sp]
Kylo should rightfully be portrayed as an extremely competent fighter[sp], but apparently he's only able to be that way when he's not fighting ray[/sp]

I honestly thought [sp] she was gonna force in just to drop the beacon off and then die like to underscore how that thing is both the representation of the future and the litteral thing they will need very soon, and she manages to return it to them with her dying breath, but nope she recovered and kept going on in the movie[/sp]
[sp] "I'm marry poppins yo!"[/sp]

ya Rey being the hidden daughter of Palpatine and Padme was an utter surprise. Good thing Kylo Ren had Admiral Jar-Jar there to tell it to hersa.
Nitpicking that the bombers in space don't operate like bombers in real life is the epitome of nitpicking.
Complain about this movie for its complete mess of a plot, no direction, bad side stories, no character depth or development, or any of its other immense problems. Dont complain that the space bombers were too close in formation.
They're REALLY REALLY SLOW bombers though.
yo that [sp]leia scene[/sp] legit gave me the creepies when i saw it
it's like a carbon copy of the scene from that horror movie mama where the creature runs forward with its hands outstreched, it was just so bizarre

i delinked it because of mild spoopy but it's this one.
I think i nailed down a major reason why the tone of TLJ feels so wrong, at least for me. The humor was way too Marvel-jokey, like the OT and TFA had jokes but it wasn't always jokes that were on the nose obvious or funny just for the sake of being funny, or slapstick. The jokes and humor in the OT and TFA generally come out of the context of a conversation or a reaction to something - what they're saying is funny because it's humorous, not because it's straight up a joke.[sp] Meanwhile in TLJ, the first joke and the thing that sets the tone for the entire movie is Poe doing the "can you hear me now?" bit and making a "your mom is ugly" joke. [/sp]
Like for example, when Finn asks Rey "You gotta boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?" That's a good joke because it doesn't linger, and it doesn't turn into a tangent - Rey lets it roll off her shoulder and you're able to establish that Finn has a crush on Rey in a single line without having him straight up say "I like you", and that restraint is also why their dynamic works so well and they work together on-screen as friends.
Another good example is like, BB-8 popping a torch as a thumbs up, Han razzing on Finn, Maz calling Chewie her boyfriend, the Stormtroopers that are coming down the hallway when Kylo is throwing a tantrum - these humorous moments in TFA are miles better than the straight up one-liners and completely inappropriate jokes for the SW universe, or jokes that sacrifice character development for a cartoonish hat-stomping villain (looking at you, Hux)
The good humor in Star Wars is never there just for humor's sake. Sometimes it's there for subtle character development; hinting at their personality, relationships to other characters or events.
That scene would have been fine if [sp]she wasn't wearing a big dress that made her look like a flying space grandma. If she'd been wearing something with pants, it wouldn't have looked nearly as awkward, I'm willing to bet.[/sp]
I just figured [sp]they established she was Force-sensitive in Empire when she senses Luke (and later all but confirmed that she was the backup plan if Luke ate shit while confronting Vader), so it was like a reflex. She basically floated back to the ship and went into a coma the second they got her inside, so it's not like she woke up in space like "HAHA! TIME TO USE MY SUPERPOWERS NOW AND NEVER AGAIN!"[/sp]
Why wouldnt [sp]anakin's force ghost tell kylo to pack it in if yoda and obi wan managed to do their ghostly antics[/sp]
Look [sp]people are pissed not because she used the force when she was in space, but they way its filmed. Its almost comedic even though it wasn't the intention. My reaction was more of a 'wait what what the fuck'[/sp]
That was basically my Reaction. Everyone around me seemed really pleased about it but IMO it looked like a scene right out of a particularly cheesy episode of Doctor Who.
I'm fine with the concept, but if I had been doing that scene[sp] I would have taken my time with it and made the whole thing a lot more tense- people expected her to be killed off and they could have taken advantage of that so much more than suddenly saving her.
perhaps by having her pull herself towards various bits of space debris, using each one to slowly drag herself back to the ship as more and more frost forms over her. People fully expected a death scene and implying they were going to get a drawn out and rather horrible end to a character, who would perish despite struggling to survive, would have made their eventual survival carry way more impact[/sp]
did anyone else feel kind of weird when [sp]the Jedi were explicitly described as a religion? i mean obviously it's always been depicted as one, but like if Catholicism was the only religion that gave its sincere followers the ability to shoot lightning from their hands, would that really still be religion?[/sp]

[sp]It was also called a religion in the OT by both Han and Tarkin[/sp]

[sp]Being a Jedi/Sith and being able to use Force powers isn't mutually inclusive. The Jedi are only one of several Force-based religions and groups in the galaxy (albeit the most prominent).[/sp]

Nah because [sp]It's been referred as such since ANH and Jedi Isn't the only religion that grants the ability to use the force, the religious aspect of the force in Star Wars is less about belief in the force and it's existence and more about how the various force sensitive ideologies believe the force should or shouldn't be used.
That said, IIRC belief in the force was actively suppressed by the empire, leading to the jedi and sith being considered nothing more than legends[/sp]
[sp]It was also called a religion in the OT by both Han and Tarkin[/sp]
Yes, both people who didn't really know any better. [sp] Han was someone who didn't even believe in the force or what the Jedi were doing, Tarkin was around when the republic was and would have known about the Jedi but he was someone who clearly had some disdain for the whole thing. Both of those times are where it's used in a negative context towards the Jedi. I was under the impression that it wasn't a religion outright, although it had some similarities.[/sp]

[sp]rogue one also had a lot of force religions[/sp]

That doesn't mean the Jedi were.
Why wouldnt [sp]anakin's force ghost tell kylo to pack it in if yoda and obi wan managed to do their ghostly antics[/sp]
Because [sp]it would be inconvenient to the plot, and how would Kylo recognize him without the DV suit?[/sp]

[sp]There was concept art for TFA showing aAnakin as a half Vader ghost talking with Kylo, would have been cool if that made it in.[/sp]

sick
Gonna watch the TLJ in about 3 hours, mostly been spoiler-free, except that my friend spoiled to me that [sp]Snoke dies[/sp], so that's pretty shitty.
I've heard so many mixed reactions on the movie, that I'm gonna really put down my standards. I liked TFA, thought Rogue One was pretty cool, so I'm hoping this one at least is better than TFA.

I hope [sp]Luke's ghost[/sp] will get Anakin's attention and he'll show up in IX. Is there a chance the next movie will be longer than The Last Jedi with no Casino tier sublplots? I don't want the final Star Wars movie to gloss over shit. Make it long like LOTR. Maybe JJ hired an academy award winning writer this time for a reason.
I want 80% of Kylo's story for the next one to be just [sp]him and Luke's ghost arguing philosophy[/sp].
And on the topic of Vader's ghost, imagine if they reveal that [sp]Vader has been hovering over Kylo's shoulder this whole time telling him to change his ways, and that's why he's so paranoid and conflicted. Like, Luke shows up to dispense some advice and just sees his father standing there already.[/sp]

thank God they cut out some of that shit. The first deleted scene in particular sounds terrible.

So we lost a bunch of awkward jokes, actual character development during the [sp]Canto Bight[/sp] storyline, a cool [sp]Phasma moment[/sp], and [sp]Luke being an asshole for no reason[/sp].
Meh.

I wouldn't get excited.

I really wished it would be good.
I legit could not take this movie serious. It was just a parody of itself.
!Spoiler!
However [sp]Luke's death scene was really good, despite being another throwback[/sp]
