I really hope not for that last part, because then where was he during all previous movies?
[editline]8th January 2017[/editline]
Wait, he's human?
He's not. The TFA novelization claims he's an alien.
If Tarkin survived, he'd be the person most capable of rebuilding the Empire. Snoke wouldn't have gained control without respect for his ability to lead an army. Tarkin commanded the Death Star, which could even explain why Snoke would build another. Tarkin also has his own novel as part of the new canon.
With that said, Andy Serkis claims that Snoke is a new character and apparently he's an alien anyway. Maybe we'll find out this year, and hopefully his CGI looks better this time.
Snoke really gives me a Sith Emperor Vitiate vibe. He's the only character I could see actually living thousands of years through SW history without looking silly. Although bringing him into the films would make SWToR canon, which itself would be ridiculous.
Snoke could very well be a Rattataki.
Just the fact that he's pale and he has pale eyes makes me think that.
Can't be Plagueis cause Plagueis was a Muun.

But that's old EU isn't it?
But that's old EU isn't it?
Might be, but changing a big character like Plagueis from a Muun to a even more human-like race would be underwhelming in my opinion.
I just hope Snoke is a new character so my friends get flipped on their heads with their theories.
Can't be Plagueis cause Plagueis was a Muun.
That isn't Canon anymore. His species isn't specified in any sources
The thing I hate most about these new Star War movies is the "twists" and "mysteries" in them. There was none of that crap in the original movies, or even the prequels.

uhhhh

I should clarify that I mean that goes beyond one movie.
Who Luke's father was in the first movie was made pretty clear: A good star pilot that was murdered by Darth Vader, end of story.
Unlike Episode VII where they constantly harped on the "Who's Rey's parents??? Find out next time!"

Blame JJ and his "mystery box" approach to film making.

i'd say the reveal of luke/leia was unsuspecting, as was the emperor allowing the rebels to discover the second death star. certainly not as impacting as vader, but technically twists nonetheless (and still better than rey's bullshit).
He commissioned the Kaminoans to create a clone army under order from Count Dooku
Eh kinda, Syfo Dias started the movement as his foresight brought him images of an oncoming war and he felt it was the best course of action, but the entire thing was jacked by Dooku and Palp resulting in Syfo being killed by the Pykes, Valorum's aide being kept prisoner because he survived the crash and the whole cloning operation being taken over by Dooku and Palp acting as Syfo.
He was an indirect pawn that was picked by pure chance basically.

That's what I think the problem is, we're expecting a twist. At worse, we're going to build up so much hype over who he may be that no matter what they make him, he'll be a disappointment.
snoke is harrison ford
harrison ford always wanted han solo to be killed
snoke wanted han solo to be killed
hmm.......
I was just thinking, even if it isn't shown what if the exhaust port on the death star actually shoots out another less intense laser blast whenever the main laser blasts, like anything near the exhaust point the moment it fires would be fried.

such a devilishly villainous doomsday device

The exhaust ports emit radiation. The lasers are a result of a focussed beam powered by Kyber crystals, there's no excess to vent.
[editline]9th January 2017[/editline]
It's also worth noting that the Death Star is covered by hundreds of exhaust ports, and [sp]Galen only made a single one of them link to the reactor so nobody would be likely to notice.[/sp]

I'm so glad the names in star wars are weird and it only takes a day to forget spoilers.

[sp]Turns out that isn't true, we've just been misunderstanding it. He didn't make the port as part of the weakness, it was a real issue.
That is why his Holo-message said nothing about it

Like when I see something like Klyn Org kills Mangus Fartimus or something I won't remember that shit. The names are so weird and if I don't match the faces up I'll end up forgeting the spoilers.

Huh?
I've seen lots of people claim [sp] he purposefully added the exhaust port as part of his weakness even though the movie makes absolutely no mention of that and there are lots of exhaust ports. I even saw someone say that the novel (which is canon) says he kept suggesting terrible alternatives to the exhaust ports so they'd go for those, is that not true then? [/sp]

[sp]the reactor itself was the weakness, he just made sure there was at least one exhaust port that would shoot straight down to it.[/sp]

Where did you get that from? It certainly isn't in the movie.
It is just dark side evil sounding music. Doesn't mean anything.
what... the music is just music?
I think you should re-watch star wars and pay more attention to the score.
It isn't even the same music though.
It is the same style, but it isn't the same notes.

But what if Snoke is only pretending to be Snoke? And it turns out he was Snoke all along.
The thing that makes me laugh about Snoke's hologram is that in order to look down on Ren and Hux he must have tiny holograms of them next to his coffee mug.
