The only minor nitpick I could bring up when it comes to continuity between Rogue One and a New Hope is that, given the ending of the latter, [sp]Leila's claim to Darth Vader that her vessel is strictly on a diplomatic missions now sounds incredibly stupid/daring[/sp]
[sp]she wasn't officially at the battle. i mean, why would an imperial senator be farting around a rebel flagship? the only logical choice is to lie.[/sp]
Would it be correct to say that the skirmish above Tatooine is [sp]a part of the Battle of Scarif, or a continuation of it?[/sp]

I think the fact that Captain Antilles died lying for the cause as well as the fact that Leia outright murders a stormtrooper makes her pretty fucking daring to begin with.

"Murders"
It was a war casualty :v:

[sp]Re: Leia saying they are on a diplomatic mission.
It's not like is going to tell the truth ("Yeah the plans are on this ship!"), she needs some silly excuse. Plus as we get to learn later from the OT Leia has some of the biggest balls in the galaxy when it comes to confronting people.
Also at the time of being captured the Senate is still a thing, so she may have been given marginally more rights than someone who was just flying through space for no reason.[/sp]

[sp]When everyone is gathered in the Yavin control room, their plan is to use either Galen Erso or the Death Star plans themselves to reveal the existence of the Death Star to the Senate, probably in a gamble to shut it down or cause a regime change. So technically Leia IS on a diplomatic mission to deliver the plans.[/sp]
[sp]Idk why Leia lying about being on a diplomatic mission is such a big deal?, It's pretty clear that she knows shes been caught and the excuse is just a formality at that point.
If you watch rebels it establishes that Princess Leia's MO is to use her diplomatic ties to obviously aid the rebellion, only to claim that she was kidnapped, or had the ships she was delivering stolen by rebels to avoid repercussions.
She's banking on the fact that even though the empire might know she's involved, they can't prove it. Pretty sure it's the same with the death star plans.[/sp]
[sp]Considering we see the plans get delivered to Leia in the cockpit of the Tantive IV, it makes some degree of sense that she wasn't aware how close Empire forces were to taking them back before they got away.[/sp]
I always thought Olga Dihovichnaya would have made a pretty convincing Leia. I've never seen her actually act though so can't comment on that.

I mean she doesn't have to act. [sp]At least for that scene, just show her face, smile and move on[/sp]
I agree though, she does have a very leia esc face.
I've just returned from a Christmas Eve at a neighbor house.
The company was boring as fuck, but at the very least the TV was on and was broadcasting The Force Awakens in HD.
It's honestly amazing how much that movie becomes more and more unbereable the more times you watch it, due to either the massive dosage of fan wank thrown in your general direction and you having more room to actually think about what's happening, and draw some odd conclusions (if you can manage to draw conclusions, that is).
When it came to the infamous "I'm reversing your mind trick, you white male scum", that was my cue to say merry Christmas to everyone and leave
[sp]going by the galaxy map, scarif and tatooine are practically next to each other, i think it's safe to say that vader caught up very quickly.[/sp]
it's an understatement to how great this track is (somewhat spoiler-ish)

:what:
I'm sorry, but in my mind Rey is the prototype of a Mary Sue feminist fantasy.
Please though, we already argued about everything concerning that character to death, so let's just agree to disagree, ok?
Good old feminist bogeyman. It's not poor writing, or an attempt to write a competent female lead while poorly balancing their list of strengths vs flaws in the process, it's an agenda out to ruin everything we know and love.

It's not poor writing either, she's just a Force Sensitive (who knows of Jedi and what they can do) and Kylo Ren (who isn't fully trained himself) used Force to get into her head, so she got a peek into his. It's pretty consistent with SW canon and how Force works right now.
There is even a young kid who could move shit with his mind before meeting the Jedi in a preview of next week's SW comic. Rey's just a natural at mind powers.
All of that's excluding the implied "Rey was part of Luke's Jedi Order before being left on Jakku".
the black series jango fett figure is underrated
the paint job on it is really, really good. not to mention all the simulated dents and scratches on it look really fucking cool. it'll be a while before I get revan probably, but I'm happy with this jango.

The whole "rey is a mary sue because she could use the force quickly" bothers me because the entire point of Luke's Force training is that he's held back by his skepticism and lack of full faith in the Force.
Meanwhile Rey gets immediate and solid proof, tries out a simple trick that she already knew about, and then uses a simple case of Force Pull. Nothing that struck me as terribly special as far as Force usage goes.
[editline]25th December 2016[/editline]
The way some people act about Rey you'd think she'd be the mary sue to end all mary sues instead of a character where the only part/s that particularly stuck out at me as being too convenient were fixing the Falcon, which is more of just quickly establishing she's good with machines which makes sense for a scavenger and was probably just a plot-convenient time and place for her to demonstrate this rather than making out that she's some prodigy capable of fixing any machine. That and Han spontaneously going "hey person I just met, wanna be my partner" was maybe a little too much.
Plus, as has been discussed to death, winning against Kylo Ren is more of a testament to how heavily wounded he is thanks to the bowcaster. It's amazing that he can stand, let alone put up enough of a fight to beat Finn and go toe to toe with an established good melee fighter
There's an argument to be made that she's too good at too many things but I really don't think it's that bad.
[del]Spoiler tags since I'm not sure if we're at the point where you can say whatever you want about Force Awakens without tagging it or not, so I'll just be safe.[/del]
It's been a year, you don't need to tag TFA spoilers

Careful with the cables on his gauntlets. My Jango's cables on the left arm have been torn from stress from what's mostly been casual posing. Seems like they're not that durable, or at least you need to be careful bending the elbows.

I still can't believe [sp]Snape[/sp] kills [sp]Dumbledore[/sp] though.
oh yeah, I also like how detatching the jetpack from jango doesn't leave these massive "SLIDE THESE IN" slots, they look like they fit in with the armor, pratically
So Saw [sp]in the scene where Lyra contacts him, has his oxygen mask even though he doesn't get his lungs injured until years later according to the Rogue One Visual Guide and Star Wars Rebels.
I didn't see it in the scene where he finds Jyn in the hiding spot, so that may have been an error on the movies part[/sp]

What if he's prepared for anything so its there just in case?

[sp]I don't recall seeing the oxygen mask hanging on his armor either, I assumed it happened later down the line.[/sp]

I feel that this kind of excessive scrutiny of female protagonists makes a better case for the necessity of more strong female leads like Rey and Jyn than anything else tbh.
Besides, If we can't have a competent female lead without people crying that star wars is being ruined by mary sue! characters, despite the fact that there was no such doomsaying when the prequels literally referred to a dude as the chosen one, then maybe the sinister feminist cabal ( the doom of all males sect, of course) has a point.

You come into a thread dedicated to a certain fandom, shit all over, then say "don't reply, we've argued this already, let's just agree to disagree"?
Get the fuck out here.
I think the term mary sue has lost its effect. Rey is most certainly a poorly written character (Jyn is better imo, even with her silly "girl power" moment), but I can't even use the phrase anymore because it's asking for trouble.
