That was more of a stun saber really
you mean Ezra's first saber?
no I want the blade to come out of where the bullet usually comes out
That was more of a stun saber really
Easily one the most thought of but well done variations of a lightsaber I've seen.

I mean yeah, it was certainly useful to have a non-lethal means of taking someone down AND a lightsaber in one, shame he moved onto using the classic lightsaber design after his original was destroyed by Vader though.
But I guess him making a lightsaber without a non-lethal alternative did sort of fit his mixed slightly dark side mindset that he had at the time.
On the subject of the crossguard I will defer to the opinion of the mighty Smug Lord Skallagrim
I want the gun saber
what about a ballistic saber
it shoots knife-sized lightsabers
what about a ballistic saber

are the light sabers activated when shot
because if not i think that does more harm than help
I remember reading somewhere that the 'crossguard' on Kylo's lightsaber is actually just a vent for the excess energy, because the ancient lightsaber design wasn't very efficient. But that might just have been a headcanon.

that was what happened in my head, yeah. imagine the scene from the punisher.

the saber is activated when it shoots out.

It's part of the visual guide.

It was because Kylo has an unstable crystal
Well, just get a fucking stable one.
Like didn't he kill some other jedi? Isn't the first order wealthy as fuck? Wasn't there an episode of clone wars where all the bounty hunters were in a box, and every wall had a lightsaber? Isn't there a lot of dead Jedi from 40 years back only collectors can fill their place? Wasn't there something about the first order using kyber crystals in their ship's laser cannons?
Like yeah, I get the symbolism of his lightsaber being unstable because he's unstable. But it's still not a good idea.
As for the vents..
If they were actual vents, would they not be less of a stable, mini-lightsaber shape?

Despite as unstable as it is, it still works perfectly fine.
So Rogue One was entirely a LucasFilm production, while EP7 and EP8 are co-produced by Bad Robot

Makes sense since JJ is involved with 7 and 8 and not R1
I didn't realize that bad robot was involved. Or if I did I had forgotten.
Is JJ also producing 9?

Despite this fact, Kyber Crystals are still incredibly rare to come by
while his crystal is unstable as shit it's also very, very powerful and i think strengthens his connection to the dark side as well
This crystal is fucked up like me. i just with it were black like my soul
I still put into question the practicality of having laser crossguards on your weapon if, supposedly, there aren't enemies armed with a lightsaber in the entire galaxy, the only foes who would make such crossguards useful

kylo knows that luke is still out there. though to be fair, we don't know if luke ditched his old green saber to be a monk or kept it

It's hinted that it's Vader's crystal

I don't think so.

For what purpose would Luke get rid of his lightsaber? It seems incredibly useful even outside of combat, especially when using the Force alone isn't always the best defense.

The knights or Ren are a group right? Others perhaps? Perhaps he made the lightsaber when he was a jedi.
The Galaxy is a huge place. You can't know if there's some secret school on the outer rim or unknown region, or even hiden in some densely populated world. There could be some school of crazy evil bastards anywhere.
Also, Not all melee weapons that can block lightsabers are used by jedi. Think magna guards or certain mandolorians with darksabers (I am interested in why there aren't more darksabers. Are they inferior?)
If anything. The real faults of the crossguard are as such:
1- Because swords weren't good against armour, you used to be able to flip longswords, hold them by the blade, and use the pointy crossguards as an anti-armour hammer. You're not doing that with a lightsaber.
2- you don't really need to do that, since lightsabers are burning beams of plasma, not blades that'll be deflected by armour.
3- You have a fucking laser blade pointed at you at you most of the time. I think this would have been fixed if the crossguard was more like a ( or { or even [ than a |.
4-striking with the hilt (like a punch) is cool and useful, but it's not worth the disadvantages. You don't really need to worry too much about being too close to build up momentum with the main blade of the sword, because it's not a blade, it's a burning beam of plasma or something.
It's still a cool as fuck idea, it's just not as well executed as it could be. Now a pommel with a stun feature? That'd take you far.

Did Luke try to teach leia the force?

there was a pretty sound theory that luke ditched the saber thing and wanted to form the new jedi order like they were monks, mostly focusing on the force and such

Never heard of that before, what's the evidence?
Never heard of that before, what's the evidence?
I personally haven't heard of it, but just to make a guess, the other Knights of Ren don't appear to be using lightsabers, and if Luke was teaching them to make their own, he probably would have helped Kylo out so he made something a little less crappy looking

Hard to judge that from seeing them for just 5 seconds in one scene in the movie.
And it's doubtful given that their leader, Kylo, uses a lightsaber.

The Knights of Ren was an operation under the command of Snoke, Luke had nothing to do with them and neither did Ben Solo until he joined them and changed his name, hell they might not even be force users.

They don't seem to use them given the scene though, the scene indicates they use alternative means.

I see Blasters, perhaps some sort of heavy weapon, what appears to be a pike or axe of some kind and what I can only assume are different kinds of alternative melee weapons, but no Lightsabers, perhaps the Knights of Ren are just extremely well trained troopers, just like the Deathtroopers.
Hopefully we see more of the Knights later on and they weren't fucking wiped out and only Kylo is left or whatever.
