Speaking of titles, say want you want about ep 1, but "The Phantom Menace" is a pretty awesome name
I'm sorry but his best pieces in Rogue One were either straight up Williams' or were heavily based on them.
Kiner has his own style and he makes the best of it.
For numbered movies i'd take Michael Giacchino because the main series should be William's style.
For the Spin Off movies i'd take Kiner.
Bring back Joel McNeely

Trying to replace Williams with an imitation, no matter how good, is a mistake

It's best to try something a bit different.
That doesn't sound very Williams. It sounds unique, for the main story numbered movies, we need Williams or a Williams sound alike.
i dunno man, mark griskey did an amazing job on kotor 2 and jeremy soule did a pretty good job on kotor 1 as well (even if it's still very distinctly soule)
Maybe it is just the type of instruments Kiner uses (or synth versions there of), but I don't think his work sounds particularly Williams or movie Star Wars.
The Shadows of the Empire music up there sounds more Star Wars'ish.
[editline]23rd January 2017[/editline]
Mark Hamill confirmed in an interview that "The Last Jedi' was the name during shooting as well.
I thought it was interesting that they nailed the title down that far back.

That's my point. I don't want them to use a Williams sound alike.
Everyone will compare them to Williams and that's just not a battle you are ever going to win.
Have someone drastically different but still fitting.
But then it won't sound like Star Wars
But then it won't sound like Star Wars
Won't sound like Williams ≠ won't sound like Star Wars. Kiner, Jeremy and many others have made very Star Wars sounding tracks that wouldn't fit in with a Williams score.
I'm sorry but his best pieces in Rogue One were either straight up Williams' or were heavily based on them.

This is just plainly false. A lot of his stuff was of course inspired by the original soundtrack, but he had his own style written all over it. The best pieces that are very him are Your Father Would Be Proud, and any time Jyn's theme played.
The orchestration wasn't "Williams", it was based off the same composers that Williams based his original Star Wars score off of. Some of the more obvious examples are Gustav Holst, William Walton, Sergueï Prokofiev and Igor Stravinsky. His orchestration is French inspired.
But most of all, it was already his own twist on these iconic harmonic vernaculars. A very small amount of the soundtrack has Williams themes in them.
I listened to Kiner talk at one of the Star Wars celebrations, and he's just this pompous asshat, who has only had a few good breaks in Clone Wars and Rebels. Ahsoka's theme, and the few main themes within Rebels.
Take a listen to any of the tracks within the show itself that aren't Kiner's (which barely fit into the universe), and I can, by ear, tell you exactly what score he's copying note for note and having played in a subpar symphony across the ocean for cheap or in a synthesizer.
Writing an entire movie's worth of music in 4 and a half weeks is a feat that few can accomplish, and the result is staggeringly better than anything I've ever heard come from Kiner's fingers.

We need some CSI enhancement on that pic.
So. Rewatching TFA. Thought I'd log some of my summaries for scenes. [sp]
Beginning fight over the village is weaker than the correlating Tantive scene, maybe because of how much longer it is. The resistance has worse aim than what stormtroopers are known for.
Most of the lines Rey says are cheesy, but all the desert-dwelling MC's have had bad lines and she's definitely closer to luke than anakin.
On the other hand, the Finn/Poe interactions are very good for their escape. This is an enjoyable bit.
First order officers don't have as Ballin' a uniform as the empire.
Finn/Rey interactions are pretty great. Finn makes everyone better it seems. All character interactions on the millenium falcon are enjoyable.
Rey fangirling isn't any good. It doesn't fit. Finn's rightfully impressed by Han's General status. Rey goes nuts over a famous smuggler (and a famous smuggler is a no-good smuggler)
I remember hating the scene that wasted the raid cast and had crap CGI monsters chase people, with the hyperdrive going off. It was totaly irrelevant to the plot. But this time I didn't mind it so much, and if the deathgang come back in a sequel as a plot point, it might be worth it (even though the raid cast being killed off, rather than the faceless guys in red, is a massive waste of tallent)
Giant snoke is dumb. The Sith-style goverment room looks really cool and has some strong korriban vibes, but you've got to wonder if all officials who take a seat realize that their leader really wants to seem like a bad guy.
Miss Orange is dumb, which was a shame, since the place had a nice atmoshphere before "HAN SOLO" was shouted out. Still, really good performances from all humans.
There's something really off about Miss Orange. The voice acting doesn't match the face for one. The Design is just bad in that they went for cute and revered at the same time.
The planet destroying ray flies too slowly for it to hit a system. Like maybe give it a few years to reach it's destination. I get that there's some good cinematography here, and we're not in some hard science fiction movie, but a good, solid ray (like the death star gave us) would've worked wonders. (also, separate shots for the moons is a bit redundant) I liked the look of the planet that gets destroyed. (what a waste of a potentially good setting) but, y'know, there's still no emotional impact behind it. Like with Alderan, there was a quest to reach it.There's nothing here that even gives us the impression that the resistance attempted to stop them. Maybe this could've been fixed in an expanded cut, or maybe we could get something like Rogue one to have us care for it. Or maybe I'm just beating a dead horse because most of us don't really care for Death Star III-A lack of Ideas.
The fight after might be cool, but discarding your gun for a melee is still a stupid thing.
Also. The power of that wookie crossbow is incredible. It can blow up people who were armoured and behind a metre of cover. It'd be a shame if it failed to instantly kill a Knight of Ren.
The music for the introduction of X-wings, combined with the visuals, Is amazing. Poe's flying is good to watch.
Ren's running through a forest, in fear of Kylo Ren. He forces Rey's arm behind her back, which is cool and terrifying, but what bothers me most about this, and Kylo in general's, use of the force is that after the initial movement to grab something, he doesn't appear to be putting any effort into maintaining his hold, and it makes him seem to be ludicrusly powerful even though we're also supposed to think he's conflicted and often vulnerable/weak. His issue is that he'll never be able to live up to vader, but his abilities seem to exceed Vader's. His power level seems to be great in one scene, pathetic in another, and it really stops him from being a great movie villain.
Finn discards his blaster when running for a captured Rey. He still has the saber, but we've seen him loose with that. So... he intends to loose if he ever gets to where he's headed? I get the cliche, I don't like it.
I enjoyed C3PO getting in the way of that touching reunion. It wouldn't be star wars without the fool.
If Poe woke up at night, surely First Order search teams should've found him first. I mean, you'd assume that'd be protocol.
Chewie being treated is heartwarmingly funny.
Kylo should never have taken off the helmet so easily. There's such an advantage in appearing stable and in control, both for in universe and the audience outside. You're supposed to hide how weak and vulnerable you are, or at least that's what I thought the character's goal was. Rey is just a bit too in-control here, and Ren does whatever she says even before she starts winning at brain-force-tug-of-war. Script aside. I really think there's some phenomenal acting for this scene, and it's a pleasure to see the two of them work.
She's never even seen a mind trick, though all stormtroopers are rather fun here.
The plan to destroy Starkiller sounds so much less BS than the deathstars, which I like. Ford and Fisher have some great chemistry still .
But why not send a team down with the main characters."people are counting on us, the galaxy is counting on us" Yep. My sentiments exactly. Though "that's not how the force works" might be the best thing Han's ever said.
Finn is great with his whole "I'm in charge" thing, and it's really enjoyable to see him with Han. Phasma... It's enjoyably silly, but in a worse mood, i'd be pretty critical about how stupid this part is.
Doing a bombing run with X wings. Surely the resistance has some dedicated bombers, right?
I can appreciate that the resistance isn't once again a load of white humans (and odly, there was a female storm trooper earlier) I remember the OT had some more variety in fighters even in A New Hope.
The exterior of starkiller base looks amazing, the interior is just too shiny at times. There's also one scene in which the props look to be very obviously props and the room looks unfinished.
Also, I think it's clear they're teleporting around this base. I guess we don't want hour long stealth sessions, but the part where they catch up to Rey (like phasma before) seconds after seeing her on the other side of a chasm, is a bit of a takeaway from all the action. Like the few stealth scenes (all Rey's) were nice.
Alright. 146 minutes into the film, we get to that scene. Han's last.
It's very overdone. The chasm, the beam that desperately needs a safety rail, the shaft of light, the red and blue. The dialogue is cheesy. The perfromances are good.
And then he get's penetrated by the wookie's bowcaster, which has been throwing armoured stormtroopers around like ragdols and making death seem like looney-tunes. I don't like the inconsistency.
Later, in the woods, Rey dies by flying against a tree, a bone cracking sound is heard.
As far as lightsaber fights go, Finn vs Ren is one of the best. It's not flawless, but no lightsaber duel has ever been.
Rey VS Ren was going really well until Rey decided to close her eyes and meditate mid-duel. The remainder was rather cool, till god created a convenient rift between them (like, fucking think of a believable method you dolts) It conveniently dies down for the rescuing of Finn. (though the proceeding retreat/base destruction of the FO is pretty cool)
Great and beautiful location for the ending, feels very near without being too familiar. Hamill looks a lot worse than Ford and Fisher. [/sp]
7/10. But I do worry I've softened because I spent a fair bit of time pausing it to write about it. I get to cool off after seeing something aggravatingly dumb.
I'd rank it higher than RoTJ, but Lower than ESB,ANH and R1 (i've forgotten where I'd put the prequels, which are probably variably below or above RoTJ)
It's got a lot of fun to it but I'm really needy when it comes to consistency and quality story. If 7 didn't slack at parts I'd rate it much higher. I hope this seems fair.

[sp]Starkiller's shot(s) rips a hole in Hyperspace, which is how it got there so fast[/sp]
Any script leak that looks as if it was scanned is almost definitely fake. They used password secured iPads.
Mark even complained about the password being ridiculously complicated.

In novels, maybe, but in film the visuals don't suggest anything like that.
In other news, Woody Harrelson has confirmed his character in the Han Solo movie is Garris Shrike
Shrike: "I know almost everything that goes on here on Corellia. I know who's lost and who's found, who's for sale and who's sold, and where all the bodies are buried. Matter of fact, I've had my eye on you. You seem like a smart lad. Are you smart?"
Solo: "Yes, Captain. I'm smart."
Shrike: "Good, that's the lad! Well, I could use a smart lad to work for me. Why don't you come with me? I'll give you a square meal and a warm place to sleep. And I just bet you'd like to see my ship."
Solo: "A spaceship? Yes, Captain! I want to be a pilot when I grow up!"
Shrike: "Well come on, then!"
I can see Woody playing this role

If you read the article, you'd know that it is speculation with no basis in fact.
It's weird seeing how people still don't have much faith in disney after they released a killer non mainline film and a decent mainline film
LucasFilm*
Disney is the parent, they probably approve the film being made, but LucasFilm handles all the day to day decisions and operations.
Look at whos logos are the start the film, not seeing and Disney there.
Same with the Marvel Films.
Story decisions, choosing writers, directors, producers and Actors, that is all handled by LucasFilm.
Now obviously Disney probably has Veto'ing power if they make a decision they don't like.
have there been any quips about Saw being trained in gerrera warfare yet
have there been any quips about Saw being trained in gerrera warfare yet
Now there has.
Though i would have said Jyn, not Saw.
Now there has.

Well, Saw trained her in gerrera warfare,
now she's finally engaJyn it.
I'll show myself out.
I don't know about everyone else here but I really like the idea of Anakin "haunting" Kylo Ren to save him from the dark side, and it would be cool to see how Kylo struggles with denying it because he doesn't know or believe that Vader returned to the light.

I actually thought this was pretty funny
