Lightsabers are cool but dumb because they Cauterize any wounds they make
Star wars shouldn't work that way.
well, it does and you don't have any authority on how Star Wars "should" work. get over it already or watch something else.
Being a fantasy changes the line of acceptance, but it doesn't erase it. I accept the force, energy weapons , hyperdrive, technobable and fighters acting like planes, among other things. But even a casual observation/bit of knowledge about space (plus destroyers being naval ship analogs in star wars logic) puts that bit of crazyness out of the zone. Sea Ships don't work that way, space ships don't work that way. Star wars shouldn't work that way.
Nightsister magic pushes the boundries a bit too. The force was a simple thing beforehand.
"Why is there cool space battles in STAR WARS please stop guys"
Lightsabers are cool but dumb because they Cauterize any wounds they make
But that actually makes sense
But that actually makes sense
If you want to get into the science of it I think the saber cuts too fast to cauterize
But that actually makes sense
As a weapon it's sort of dumb seeing as your enemy having a bloody wound would be pretty useful for you when fighting.
But that actually makes sense
Like if it melts every sort of metal, no questions asked, I really don't think it's going to cauterize a wound, instantly flash fry or melt the arm off sure, but it doesn't really matter.

Seems to me you have two choices: Stop paying attention to that "causal observation/knowledge of space" or stop watching the damn franchise.
The first issue of the Darth Maul comic series is out, it's good!

it would probably cause the water in your body to explode into steam rather than cauterize anything
it would probably cause the water in your body to explode into steam rather than cauterize anything
But it wouldn't because when Ben cut off that guys hand in the Cantina there was a splash of blood on the floor.

It was the first movie, not everything was established yet.
Every movie post ANH showed cauterized wounds.

How did I miss this, the Rogue One Visual Guide has a screen cap of the TIE Fighter facing down Jyn
Pablo said the book went to print in October, so it was finished before the final cut of the movie. as are a lot of novels and other tie in books.

Looking at these again and also the TIE Fighter shot with Jyn on the Citadel Bridge...
I can't wait to see some behind-the-scenes for the special effects of this movie. They were honestly the most authentically realized effects in any of the SW movies.
I wonder how many of these were miniatures.
I find that Gareth has such an amazing eye for framing these huge vistas and shots. It really does immerse me in the world.
The major problem I had with TFA was that the effects felt.... bubbly. Like the planets were less realistic, and all the camera work was very close, and the colors were extremely exaggerated. Still a great film, but it was missing that ground of realism that Rogue had.
I hope we find a happy medium in the next films.
The Thrawn novel has a blurb now
After Thrawn is rescued from exile by Imperial soldiers, his deadly ingenuity and keen tactical abilities swiftly capture the attention of Emperor Palpatine. And just as quickly, Thrawn proves to be as indispensable to the Empire as he is ambitious; as devoted as its most loyal servant, Darth Vader; and a brilliant warrior never to be underestimated. On missions to rout smugglers, snare spies, and defeat pirates, he triumphs time and again—even as his renegade methods infuriate superiors while inspiring ever greater admiration from the Empire. As one promotion follows another in his rapid ascension to greater power, he schools his trusted aide, Ensign Eli Vanto, in the arts of combat and leadership, and the secrets of claiming victory. But even though Thrawn dominates the battlefield, he has much to learn in the arena of politics where ruthless administrator Arihnda Pryce holds the power to be a potent ally or a brutal enemy.
All these lessons will be put to the ultimate test when Thrawn rises to admiral—and must pit all the knowledge, instincts, and battle forces at his command against an insurgent uprising that threatens not only innocent lives but also the Empire's grip on the galaxy—and his own carefully laid plans for future ascendancy
The box for Jyn's Black Series figure also refers to her as "Sergeant Jyn Erso", and says she's like one of the most trusted or experienced (either one of those two, I think) soldiers in the Rebellion.
Those must have been some pretty major reshoots if even the merchandising has ditched plot elements and character backstories.

In early drafts she was an actual member of the rebellion.
Not sure why they had out dated info.
(I had an idea, then geeked out)
Kinda would really like to see an era of star wars in which there are lots of sith, who look really samurai in their armour(moreso than vader) , holding fuedal dominions across the galaxy, like japan during the sengoku judai. The Jedi are analogues to the warrior monks in that period, and adopt the armour and the style. The Jedi and Sith aren't worst enemies in this period. Rather, sith warlord battles sith warlord, and most jedi try to help resolve the conflicts in a way that best benefits the common good (of course, a few seperate sects of jedi want to militantly oppose the sith, they get a similar treatment to such sects in the sengoku Judai .
Of course, it's still starwars, so you can mash this up with as much stuff as you want.
The cosmic collapse of some deep space hazards open up a new frontier. At the same time as Sith Daimyo war for power and territory, a rabid scramble into this new section of previously-wild space causes the same kind of shit and misery we got with any period of colonial expansion; africa, america and australia all come to mind. The Sith conflict happily spills into new space as younger lords seek new dominions and can't quite beat their masters, alongside numerous intergalactic guilds and corporations. Various refugees come in seeking to get away from the wars and the sith (who send enough bounty hunters that they often kill eachother to prevent market saturation)
Sith apprentices have to be really careful with usurping their master, because the destabilization caused can open the way for any number of rival lords to expand into the usurped territory
Corperations are understandably making a killing from the wars.
There is understandably no senate in this era. An 'emperor' is just a lord with a lot of vassals, and they often don't have full control over those vassals. A few rules are kept in place for Sith honour (and dominance) because honour is very important in negotiations.
Siths are all really fond of building superweapons, but nobody has the resources to pull anything off like the deathstar, so they're often smaller or the Sith lord prefers things like larger ships, larger castles, bigger killbots, mind control devices, clones, pulp nonsense, genetically engineered Pet Rognaknorzas and the like.
(human designed) Fighters in this era borrow more from WW1 and WW2 planes, with many having say, WW2 wings in biplane or triplane configurations.
Sith ships vary in design, but all have striking japanese castle designs, more pronounced than that seen in WW2. The more impressive and Imposing your flagship the bigger your [del]dick[/del] power over the darkside.
A popular form of blaster with the Sith provinces is rather analog to a flintlock, It's slow firing but the blaster bolt is highly devestating against even the high quality armour of the era. Sith (and jedi) troops often get into line formations to fire them. Revolvers and repeaters are also numerous, though they lack the devestation of the prior weapon.
I think this'd be really keeping in line with what Star Wars is (all you need is a family to follow), but it'd be fresh and interesting enough to want to watch. Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure lucas would lap it up.
This reminds me of when jedi used swords that were forged via the force in legends.
I would personally like to see a Star Wars story set just prior to the first hyperdrive flight. I like to imagine that period was a lot like the early Alien series--where corporations in big bulky slow freighters controlled the galaxy, only with a few more aliens. Meanwhile the Jedi are totally unheard of, as it should be. Star Wars' world works best IMO with very few lightsabers.

i disagree
star wars needs the ability to move at the speed of plot
if there's no hyperdrives, they can't move at the speed of plot
Oh, so you know the image of Han punching the Space Otter? That species is canon again, one appeared in the Han Solo comics.
Though the one in the comic looks more like a cat. As do most of the ones in Legends.

It looks better than the other one; like it can actually be taken seriously.

Looking at the Legends page for that species, most of them don't look like the one in the infamous image.

I got this a couple weeks ago. Useful to open it, optimistic to keep it in the package.
Ohh I want one.
Maybe 2.

I'd pop it open just because they're really cheap if you wanna show off one still in package
Added to the collection.

The Darth Vader is from the 2005 series, it actually had movable joints and a fabric cape! Small toys are getting cheaper and shittier.
Jyn walking up to the TIE reminds you just how big they really are. You only usually see them in space where they are dwarfed by star destroyers.

joints on small scale figures are very costly, It's a shame, but I can 100% understand why they're doing it. I just wish they had basic articulation on them now (knees, elbows)
Stormtrooper
Y'know that's probably the best looking Stormtrooper figure Hasbro produced, the helmet is spot-on.
