For all your self declared knowledge of space, you apparently have no idea just how fast asteroids and other objects in space move.
lol "slow moving objects"
If anything, you should be complaining about such minor damage the strikes are doing to the ships.
It's funny how something about physics you clearly have no understanding about somehow kills your suspension of disbelief rather than something actually made up in the film, such as the fact that there are thousand plus manned starships in space with laser canons and artificial gravity.
Well, maybe they were moving with the asteroids. They were depicted as slow, so they're slow, in relation to the ships, because nothing slows down momenum in space, maybe when TIE fighters move west in an asteroid field, they're really just slowing down how much they move east, space works like that.
Common steel (let alone space-alloy) is harder than most asteroids. and the streamlined profile of a destroyer should protect it since few asteroids are hiting the slanted angles head on. Then they're protected by shields.
I don't get the knee-jerk overreaction. I'm saying a few things (Destoyers getting carved up in asteroid fields, R1[sp]carving through another destroyer[/sp] don't quite mesh with the universe as well as laser swords and the force. Perhaps, if they explicitely stated that the asteroids were all metal or something, or used a [sp] downward blow, or kamikazi attack to down a destroyer, which would've still been insanely cool[/sp]
The Executor loosing the command section of the bridge in the empire strikes back causes the ship to change course and crash in to the deathstar, despite it being crewed by thousands of people elsewhere who're supposedly at least semi-competent, is also a point of bother.
They're not movie ruiners. I don't hate Star Wars. I don't suddenly forget that star wars is a fantasy. I just think these sections weren't done as well as they could've been done, and I'm on a forum where people tend to discuss things, in a thread about star wars. I suppose I could have added more conversation primers like "does anyone else think this could've been done better, how would you've done it" (but that stuff always feels patronizing so I avoid it)
what streamlined profile?
did you forget about the huge conning tower that rises hundreds of meters above the main body of the ship, the same conning tower that is generally nothing but a big target for lasers, kamikaze fighters and space rocks alike and got smashed to bits by an asteroid in Ep5?
Well, maybe they were moving with the asteroids. They were depicted as slow, so they're slow, in relation to the ships
why are you talking about speed like it's the only thing in the universe that matters? did you forget that physical objects also have things like mass and density and that it's very likely that the part of a big asteroid - that is, the entire thing - that strikes a starship has much more of both than the area on the ship it strikes? at the least it's very likely to make a large dent, and Star Destroyers aren't the thickest vessels around. and when talking about the materials, how do we know what these asteroids are made of? for all we know they could contain metals that give them extra toughness against space iron.
They're not movie ruiners.
from the enthusiasm with which you endlessly complain about these things i'm pretty certain they are.
well, storm trooper armor is made out of 'plastoid', is this just reinforced plastic? like what
Plasteel, plastoid, etc are all scifi advanced polymers, with plasteel having alloys in it as well.
Plasteel, plastoid, etc are all scifi advanced polymers, with plasteel having alloys in it as well.
It's also a way to justify why a lot of the early props look like they're made from 70s plastic.
Because they were.
Well plasteel was a scifi term far before star wars existed but I'm not sure about plastoid. I'd imagine.
I mean, I remeber hearing that stormtrooper armor was some of the best armor, and they usually didn't die from the shots because it was /that/ good, but the shock from the blast usually made them uncontious, which is why they didn't bleed or anything since it never went through the armor. In TFA that's an exception, though.
At least, that's what I heard.
Yeah that's why Han's DL44 was illegal, it's one of the few blasters that can penetrate trooper armor.
i suppose the rebels at the start of IV also had contraband weapons then - as i'd assume insurgent fighters to have - because those troopers looked dead as hell
From what I know, within canon stormtrooper armor was intentionally designed to take blaster shots and dissipate it across the whole body, because of this each shot was like getting hit with a sledge hammer which is why they ended up going unconscious, it was designed to save the troopers life but not keep them active essentially, so in essence the armor dissipated energy from blaster shots, leaving the trooper unconscious and with burns on large areas of the body depending where they were hit, for example if shot in the shoulder the blast would be directed around the whole body but they'll be left with a burn on the shoulder where it hit. What weapons like Han's DL44 did was basically pack too much power into the blaster shot and it'd defeat the dissipation system built into the armor and cut right through hitting the trooper inside, essentially killing them.
Amusingly clone armor didn't suffer from this because it gave zero fucks about trying to dissipate the shots, it was essentially like hitting a steel plate as it was more of a resistant than dissipation based armor, because of this both phase 1 and 2 could take a lot more shots and even more powerful shots than stormtrooper armor, its why it wasn't uncommon to see clones take upto 7 shots before they'd get downed, and by that stage they were more likely dead than unconscious.
Then there is first order armor which is basically stormtrooper crossed with phase 2 in terms of strength but yet gets presented as pretty much paper so far. :v:
I just watched TFA becayse it was on STARZ and I have many issues with it but it was still more enjoyable than ROTS or any other prequel
[SP]Why does Rey immediately know how to do Jedi mind tricks? Why does she defeat Kylo Ren in a duel so seemingly easily after he had defeated Finn, someone with extensive combat training?[/SP]
[SP]I have a feeling these points have been made before so if they have just ignore them[/SP]

Not sure if I should spoiler tag since it came out over a year ago
Yeah, there really is no need to spoiler tag it. It is out on home release and digital streaming.
Here's a wall of text that completely ignores the concept of momentum

Why exactly do you think we keep having to repair satellites put out into the vacuum of space?
Why does Rey immediately know how to do Jedi mind tricks?
My rationale behind this has always been that she's a huge fangirl for Jedi and is basically living the dream. If you've idolized Jedi your whole life then suddenly realized you were force sensitive you'd be actively trying all the party tricks they can do too. She has the advantage of already knowing about that stuff, on top of the hints and implications that she's special in some way.
Why does she defeat Kylo Ren in a duel so seemingly easily after he had defeated Finn, someone with extensive combat training?
Finn is a Stormtrooper and while he probably gotten some kind of melee combat training, most of his training would have been with a blaster. Rey is shown to be pretty good at melee fighting at the beginning of the movie. Just add The Force™ and you've got somebody who was already good at melee fighting getting a +15 buff across all stats except INT. She was also pretty mad at the end, which if you ask me means she was channeling a bit of that dark side power, which gives you +10 on top of those buffs for STR and DEX.
Honestly though, I really hope they do something with the implications that Rey's not entirely emotionally stable, and as such would make her an easy target to dark side temptations.
Also the fact that Chewie shot Kylo. He was injured during the Duel

Because asteroids don't hit satellites at similar speeds while traveling in the same direction, and aren't built for taking hits because they're not for war, have most of their surface area as thin panels, and are significantly smaller.
If you've zinged him, know shame.
You know why that Star Destroyer was destroyed? Because it was in the script, because it probably looked cool, or was meant to play up the danger, or how unconcerned Vader was.

"Hey guys there's tons of debris in space should we build our satelites so that they can take some damage?"
"Nah"

Just wait until he says that the space debris around satellites are too small or too slow to damage them compared to asteroids :v:
Someone got an early copy Aftermath: Empires End

Spoiler obviously.
but this is my favourite part, it isn't anything major, but it involves a character from Episode 1
[sp]Jar Jar is alive, he entertains orphans on Naboo. The Adults hate him for what he did while acting for Padme in the senate in Episode 2, with the emergency powers and all that[/sp]
[editline]13th February 2017[/editline]
Big spoiler
[sp]There is an imperial research station/observatory on Jakku. Palpatine had several like it scattered around the galaxy to look out at the unknown regions, they also contained sith artifacts. He could sense something out in the Unknown Regions that Vader couldn't.[/sp]
[editline]13th February 2017[/editline]
It is also hinted that the Emperor [sp]Wanted the empire to fall completely, he felt if an Empire failed to protect its emperor, it has failed[/sp]

Ah, it's a metaphor.

I'll give the writer this: the second aftermath book was actually kinda enjoyable to read
They've cast a new R2-D2
http://www.nme.com/news/film/new-r2-d2-actor-revealed-star-wars-1975564
I didn't realize that they still had Kenny Baker as R2 in TFA and TLJ. I assumed he was 100% Remote Controlled by this point.
But will he measure up to Kenny Baker's legacy?
What do people here think of this? https://www.change.org/p/the-walt-disney-company-bringing-the-old-republic-era-of-star-wars-to-netflix
It seems some people don't understand The Old Republic era is entirely non-canon now and none of the things shown in the games are relevant anymore, really.

He was also the guy controlling the remote versions for a lot of the time.
