Look, all I said was that I wanted to know why people anticipate these films,
People like Star Wars.
[editline]1st August 2017[/editline]
I would appreciate it if you wouldn't accuse me of actually thumbing through a thesaurus when I approach my posts. It's a (OMG SCARY BIG WORD WATCH YOURSELVES) platitudinous allegation, and one that was even made on this very forum six years ago. If you've heard me speak, you'd know that I talk this way as well.
*sigh* If I'm going to be met with this sort of unnecessary animosity when posting here, I suppose I should get around to using my dormant TFN account. I'll leave if you want.
You went straight into flamboyant shitposting for 9 posts then told everyone they're hostile. People would have been more open to your wordy questions if you asked without doing all that first. I mean, I have an English degree but who cares, you don't need excessive wording to get a point across in the Star Wars chat thread.
Apparently so, because you still haven't answered my question with anything other than "because people like Star Wars." Yes, I like Star Wars too--and yet here I am, not caring about the sequels. Sorry, but that's too shallow of a response for me, and you know that isn't what I'm looking for.
Why can't the answer be left at that? There's no reason for a drawn out explanation
people like to see new content for the things they like
go fucking figure
You're right, and I was rather excited for the release of Rogue One. It's the particulars of said new content that determines whether or not I'm interested though, which is why I'm curious as to what people are looking forward to more specifically. What captivated you most about the new characters and story?
Why do you guys give a shit what words people use? Sure, his posts are unnecessarily wordy but they're not hard to understand either, it's as pointless to criticize someone for using some fancy words as it is to rant about another poster who uses no punctuation or caps in his posts, and it's especially tiring when 90% of the responses consist of something along the line of "spit that thesaurus out" rather than actually addressing the post. It was way more annoying to read all those posts than to look for the point beneath Exor's wording.
And it's not like that point is that far-fetched either. So far, the sequel trilogy seem to be more interesting for newcomers to the Star Wars universe than for fans of the OT, TFA was more or less a retread of ANH and all the novel ideas it brought alongside it were kind of tossed to the side in favor of that reused skeleton. When I saw the movie for the first time, I was pretty interested in how Finn being an ex-stormtrooper would develop in the rest of the movie, but after he defects he just seems like a regular guy who hasn't been all that affected by having been brought up in what is basically a cult for the majority of his life, and he doesn't display the slightest of issues with slaughtering his former brothers. The same goes for the New Republic and the First Order being the polar opposite of what the Rebellion and the Empire were in terms of dominance and power, which I thought would lead to the First Order being an underdog and adopting the rebels' guerrilla tactics. Instead, we get "the Resistance" being a rag-tag group with unofficial support and limited resources, and the FO somehow built an even more powerful Death Star and destroyed the Republic's core worlds with it. And with that out of the way, we're back to the good old Rebel-Empire dynamic...
TFA may be good on its own, and those who are new to the franchise may enjoy it more than I do as a result, but to me it just seemed like more of the same when it could have gone in more interesting, novel directions. I'm not as interested in seeing TLJ as I was in seeing TFA back then.

In a series of obnoxious posts you're demanding an in-depth discussion from a chat thread, and you wonder why people aren't interested? Nobody is obligated to you, I'm not bothering with more detail than this but hopefully it'll shed some light on what you could have got by browsing in the first place.
I want to see how the characters develop. Luke is clearly not as we know him. Rey is a headstrong moral type that may or may not agree with him. Finn is a generally lovable coward that's trying to do the right thing. Kylo Ren isn't a one-dimensional Vader knockoff but just a guy trying to live up to Vader, and it's anyone's guess what'll happen to him. Snoke is a mystery waiting to be solved. There's also Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran's characters, which we don't know much about yet. Other than that we've been told the film will throw a few surprises our way, and the last one was otherwise enjoyable so it sounds fun.

if that's truly the case then i feel very, very sorry for anyone who has the misfortune to have to speak to you in real life

Maybe most people simply don't give as much of a shit about it as you guys do.
Seriously, if anything is being obnoxious here it's the unending stream of posts complaining about this guy using somewhat fancy wording.
Could we maybe resume talking about Star Wars in the Star Wars chat thread? Or is it absolutely necessary to keep commenting on other people's posting structure in there?
Have they said when in the timeline the Han Solo movie takes place?
Have they said when in the timeline the Han Solo movie takes place?
It follows Han from 18 to 24 years old, and Han was born some time after 30 BBY (it was 29 BBY in Legends but we don't have a solid date in canon), so I'd assume between 11 to 5 years before A New Hope, give or take a few years.
I'm more hyped for Lando than Solo himself in this film to be honest.

Thank you for finally deigning to answer me.
SW IX gets a new writer

Is he any good?
You never know with writers, Akiva Goldsman wrote Academy Award-winning scripts--he also wrote Batman & Robin.
Which academy award winners? They're not always that good
A Beautiful Mind
Given the (hopefully) imminent release of the 1/6th scale ROTJ Emperor Palpatine by Hot Toys, I found myself discussing the character's likeness on another forum. Fun fact, the design of Ian McDiarmid's prosthetic makeup changed throughout the course of filming Return of the Jedi, which accounts for his inconsistent facial features from scene to scene.

Just got Dark Disciple and Twilight Company. Advice on what to get next? Right now looking at Catalyst.

Fuck now the actual poster will probably disappoint me. This looks incredible, if not a bit cheesy with Luke's Jesus pose.

Thrawn is a must.
Thrawn is a must.
Yeah, said this a few pages ago but might as well repeat. Already done with Thrawn, Tarkin, and Ahsoka for Canon stuff
there was also that one with assaj ventress, forget the name though
As you can see July was a busy month for getting through those (and a couple legends ones in that number)

Yeah that's Dark Disciple
Dark Disciple and the Ahsoka novel only served to increase my resentment over TCW's cancellation. Rebels hasn't been nearly as satisfying, although its best moments, of course, come from whenever TCW material is transferred over.
Anyway, do you think we'll ever see other classes of Super Star Destroyer in canon again? It would be a shame to discard many of the brilliant Legends designs, such as the Eclipse and the relatively recent additions of the Assertor and Bellator classes. It left a sour taste in my mouth when it was revealed that while the name Eclipse was grandfathered into canon as Palpatine's flagship, the ship itself is just another boring Executor-class.
Yeah Ahsoka was far better than I was expecting. Ashley Eckstein doing the reading was a huge plus though.

The Eclipse Class SSD was an ugly and dumb idea IMO.
They never named the class of SSD the Eclipse was. it was only referred to as a Super Star Destroyer.
Though more then likely it is an Executor.
Really? What did you find ugly about it? It isn't aesthetically displeasing or asymmetrical, barring perhaps the bridge tower. A black-hulled ship designed to honor the antiquity of naval traditions, albeit in a perverse fashion, fits Palpatine--a patron of the arts and an academic--like a glove.
It doesn't match any other imperial design.
its also big a bulky, and we didn't need any more super lasers.
[editline]3rd August 2017[/editline]
Any Superweapon, after the DS2 (including Starkiller) I felt was dumb.
The writers kept trying to one up each other.
Yes I know the Eclipse's Superlaser wasn't strong enough to destroy a planet, but I'm pretty sure it was strong enough to cause an extinction level event.
