Star Wars Megathread Episode IV: A New Thread: UNTAGGED SPOILERS? 1 WEEK BAN

Also in that period after the collapse of the Empire I don't think military spending was high up on the list, hence few new designs.
There are newer ships, the resistance just doesn't have them.
Yea gotta remember the Resistance is basically on the level of using the ak-47 in Star Wars terms. They're underfunded guerillas so they're using all the outdated but reliable and mass produced tech.
the New Republic is secretly giving them old surplus military tech as well

They are basically a cold war super power funded militia.

Yes it's basically a sci fi version of the mujahedin. Down to their own version of the invading soviets. Which tbh is pretty fitting for Star Wars to take notes from considering the Empire was an omage to the Reich in many ways. Star Wars tends to be pretty good at taking inspiration from real world conflicts and cultures.

[sp]God damn I love those Praetorian guards and I really hope they do get some action scenes.[/sp]
Also...

Oh god those praetorian guards look awful.
It's like they took something from the flash gordon movie and said: "How can we make this look even more ridiculous and remove any charm it had?"
I disagree, I think they look badass
Going to have to see them at a different angle or with better lighting. Right now they look like indistinguishable red shapes to me.
Cool image of Canto Bight, not tagged for those who don't want location spoilers

design looks snazzy - even if i didn't know, i could immediately tell it's Star Wars

Reminds me of the prequels, which is not a bad thing when it comes to design.
Reminds me of the Rebel buildings from Galactic Battlegrounds.

I knew the style looked familiar!

Round buildings are not exactly original in Star Wars lol

Adywan finally finished and released his ESB fanedit 7 years after the first release date announcement.
I wonder if it is as bad as his ANH edit.
Apparently he filmed new footage with miniatures and people in costume.
I saw an image of AT-AT's with Snowtroopers repelling out them.
God its probably worse then George Lucas' edits.
from the trailer and pics that i've seen, some additions are good, some Lucas level of unnecessary
this for one looks pretty good IMO, altho the bloom's a little excessive

what i don't get is that while his enhanced lightsabers look great, somehow most of the redone blaster bolts are downgrades more than anything - they have no glow to them at all
I think he re-filmed a lot of the AT-ATs, they also feel less stop motion.
The Radar in the snow speeder cockpit is animated and there are little dots representing the AT-ATs/STs.
Ugh but there are some George level of additions, the one AT-AT that falls sideways, falls on top of an AT-ST almost comically, the AT-ST looks like right before it hits it.

He added one of those spider things that were designed for Dagobah though not used (they are used in Rebels however living on the planet Chopper base is on)

Although it doesn't look bad in motion it fits right in, I think if I didn't know it wasn't in the movie before, I wouldn't have noticed it.

He replaced the Special Edition Emperor's head with one made out of screen caps from ROTJ and the mouth flaps from I'm guessing the SE, except only his mouth moves everything above the mouth is static and looks really unnatural.

He kept that CG shot of Slave One added in one of the SEs, hm.
I just looked at the ANH changes.
There's just stuff changed for no reason
the ESB one is better then ANH.
He also released a 'purist' edition of the ANH edit, but I'm not sure what the differences are out side of a music cue.
He changed the colour of the ion cannon blasts from red to blue. Blue does match most of the now non canon appearances of such a weapon.
He also showed the transport jump to Hyperspace, and one of its escorting X-Wings is destroyed by the Star Destroyer.
and one of its escorting X-Wings is destroyed by the Star Destroyer.
the rest of the scene was p good but that just looked tacked on
New Star Wars Blip!

I really like this little series.

This was a good read, George Lucas may have been involved a lot more then we thought, at least up until May 2013 when JJ started full time on the movie (before that he was too busy with Star Trek Into Darkness). He helped the others refine the story, and some ideas came from him.
Also based off a tweet from Pablo, Rey was Lucas' suggestion, in so far that he wanted a young girl become a Jedi.

I think I can safely say that dark disciple takes the second spot in Canon books, after Thrawn. Makes me sad that clone wars was canceled.
We might be getting an Obi-Wan film

the changes in Adywan's ESB for those who don't want to download it. Just a list no pictures
everything to say about the prequels has been said already but coruscant is the coolest shit
i love locations that aren't deserts or steel corridors
If the prequels did one thing right is was the world design. Kamino, coruscant, and even Geonosis has it's cool twist on the desert world.
Design in general was great in the prequels. So much attention to detail. I went through the costumes of star wars exhibit when it was here at the Denver art museum and it was impressive.
