Star Wars Megathread Episode IV: A New Thread: UNTAGGED SPOILERS? 1 WEEK BAN

What are the actual planetary consequences of the Death Star firing [sp]at a small target such as the Holy City[/sp] anyway? I mean, it seems to [sp]tear county-sized chunks out of the landscape, that must cause earthquakes across an entire continent, at the very least.[/sp] I'd argue that what we saw in Rogue One was even more terrifying than the instant destruction of Alderaan.
One thing I will say that really impressed me about Rogue One is that [sp]they actually killed off everyone in the movie, which is pretty atypical of a Star Wars film or any film in that sort of vein. It was a suicide mission through and through, and it would have done the story a huge disservice had there been a cliche "escape just in time" sequence.[/sp]

[sp]it certainly made a nice crater, and the planet was a shitshow anyway, but beyond massive earthquakes and debris shooting into the stratosphere, i don't think much else would have happened.[/sp]
I also just saw Rogue One and it had its up and downs. The action set pieces were definately the highlight of the movie for me. The characters didn't really get fleshed out that much though but I guess that's hard to do in one film. Still I'd reccomend it to any Star Wars fan that would rather watch a film about people doing the grunt work instead of being unstoppable jedi.
[sp]I didn't hate the CGI Tarkin, I was actually impressed with how far CGI has come. Still, it was pretty unsettling to see a CG Peter Cushing back from the dead and not totally looking human and I can get why it's controversial. [/sp]
[Sp]I thought Tarkin was a little too cartoonish looking. Look at Peter Cushing vs Tarkin in Rogue One and you can see the real Tarkin is WAY LESS "oh my god my eyebrows are so expressive they're going to flap off my head like a small bird" than the CGI Tarkin. CGI Tarkin also looked a little too cartoonishly textured and his eyes looked too big, and maybe a bit too skeletal looking. Basically I just thought he looked much more animated than the normally prim and proper Grand Moff from the OT. Leia looked far better because they had a lot more restraint, and gave themselves less rope with which to hang themselves.[/SP]

[sp]I honestly thought the Leia scene was just a deleted scene from Ep. 4 reused and revamped for this movie. Didn't know that was CG too.[/sp]
So I went to the Denver art museum as they have a special exhibit on the costumes of star wars, pretty cool shit and it had a lot of information. They honestly put a lot of thought into the costume design even in the prequels.

[sp]red and gold leader's scenes were unsued footage, but that's the extent of that.[/sp]

[sp]her "Hope" was culled from ANH so there's that :p[/sp]

Probably a nuclear winter after that as well.

But no Imperials allowed
Debbie Reynolds, Carrie's mother, died today. One day after her daughter.
Billie must be totally devastated, losing both her mother and grandmother in just a couple of days.
Probably a nuclear winter after that as well.
[SP]I know it was a dump of a planet anyway but complete and irreversible ecological destruction probably followed. Nuclear winter for that half of the planet, the effects spreading slowly to the rest of the planet, all remaining indigenous life will likely perish, any remaining economy is gone.
Frankly, its arguably worse than just atomizing the whole thing. Like a gut shot that turns septic and causes a slow and painful bleedout.[/sp]
So I assume they're gonna use the new Thrawn book to retcon the Outbound Flight out of his story. I suppose it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world seeing as the Yuuzhan Ving don't really seem like they belong in Star Wars. Don't get me wrong, they were totally badass, but for the same reason the ysalimari are gone they don't really fit.
It isn't retconning if it doesn't exist.
It would be retconning if the book was in Legends.

Grimdark BDSM aliens are cool but they're not Star Wars.
Dave Filoni liked the Vong, there were ideas floating around for a Vong story in Clone Wars before it was cancelled.
There still might be a chance they could appear. They probably wouldn't be 1:1 to the legends version though.

Grimdark, BDSM fetishism and the wanking of their power has to go or otherwise I will protest Disney's canon with the Legends fanboys.
I don't need someone's shitty W40k OCs in my Star Wars, thank you very much.

Makes me wonder what Thrawn's new motivations for joining the Empire will be. Wasn't the protection of Csilla from the Vong under a unified Empire the main reason?

I had a feeling it was about time to start unliking some pages on Facebook...
So there is a nod to the Legends origins of the B-Wing in Rebels,
In Rebels the B-Wing Project was called 'Shantipole' (also the name of the Planet where it was built)
Shantipole was the name of the Research Station in Legends where the B-Wing was designed, it was in an asteroid field.
Also the fact a Mon Calamari designed it in both canons.

The only reasonable thing to discuss after Carrie Fisher died apparently.

I like the idea that any Chiss leaving to do shit in the wider galaxy is done in the sense of protecting their homeworld and people.
I hope Tarkin has something to do with him joining.
More Tarkin is always a good thing tbh.

Billboard in my town (LED) had a Carrie Fisher tribute
my favorite part of the vhong invasion was turning luke into jedi goku
Rebels [sp] That possession trick Erza uses is fantastic, like I get it's really dark'n shit, and he probably should've been shot for being fully exposed and whatnot, but it's a shame he doesn't use it more[/sp]
That said, the dark side is pretty fucked up.
How do the sith ever beat the jedi? Like rule of 2+half of them becoming slaves to the dark side, it's strange to see them so successful.
Like yeah, one sith can be pretty impressive. But they're basically against the whole world and every other sith. Meanwhile, Jedi can co-operate and reach numbers of 10,000 without issue.

the thing is that when the rule of two was established the jedi decided that the sith werent an issue and didnt bother to go hunting for any possible sources of it. that was one of the biggest keys as to why they were able to control the republic and clone army to wipe out the jedi so easily.

Because the point of the rule of 2 was to be able to influence events in other ways to not bring attention iirc. Just a smarter way of going about things.
