Just because it was in the game for 10 years does not mean that it works - and while you have commands to disable crits we have to be honest, there are no good servers to play on, plus the mechanic shouldn't be even a thing Random crits remove depth from the game by allowing you to insta-winning a fight you're currently in, or losing it for you in that matter - they don't impact the gameplay in any positive way, and even if you say "but new players get them too so they can have a chance to win!!!!!", no you're wrong here too The chance for rolling a crit increase as you deal more damage, and it counts all the damage done in last 20 seconds - better players are even more likely to get those, so your poor billy.barbara2007 will probably get random critted by a plat soldier rather than he'll random crit him - and even then, if that new guy shouldn't random crit him, he should lose to that plat soldier fair and square without some dumb mechanic deciding "ok, were gonna win the match for you"; The outcome of the fight should be decided based on each players skill, thats how a fair match looks, not to mention the fact, that removing random crits doesn't make the game any less casual - it's still a random 12v12 shitfest that it is and still will be one - but the gameplay will a lot more fair to both sides Not really gonna talk about this further, as it's been already talked over by other people, you can read their posts as to why this mechanic is dumb; however saying that "but it's been in the game for 10 years wtF????????????????" and telling us to basically just frick off to some community server (which btw are garbage where I live if you're curious) is just stupid this thread should be closed - it's absolutely disgusting how the whole thread is just a terrible cycle of same things happening over and over again
He might be an alt actually. Three posts. Joined hours ago, meme profile description.
I definitely considered it being an alt, but I'd like to give ASIC at least SOME credit, he clearly doesn't have a lack of diction. But, if it is him, it'll be a new low.
Jesus christ, I went into this thread expecting a decent amount of conversation and debate about the topic, but it's literally just one person trying to defend random crits. Sorry to say asic, but most of your arguments have been pretty bad. Read through the entire thread and you've not really done much in terms of contesting what other people think. Honestly, with how you've defended random crits, it just makes random crits seem like an even worse idea, especially with posts like this. https://i.imgur.com/EyMlZN7.png Like how do you even ask that? Of course the team who knows more about the game and are more refined in skill should win. That's like asking "Why do you believe food should sustain you?" or "Why do you believe the more qualified person should get the job?" I really want to believe there's a counterargument for crits since so many people enjoy them, but you've got to provide a reason beyond the fact that you enjoy them. As of right now, they only serve to ruin experiences by random chance and give really good players WAY more power than they need in gameplay.
obvious alt is obvious #banASICforsockpuppeting
did asic seriously made an alt just so he could have someone to support his weird opinion
I don't know if that is an alt or not.* Either way it is not me. *One should probably assume no by default.
That's like asking "Why do you believe food should sustain you?" or "Why do you believe the more qualified person should get the job?" Why should you pick up that can? Why should the the faster computer show better graphics? Why should the person with the higher bid win the auction? Why should the politician with more votes win the election? Why should a louder noise be more audible from a distance? Why should you vote for the politician supporting your interests? Why should the player with the fancier loadout get the pocket medic? Why should I answer your questions if I can just ask one myself instead? Why should you buy a Stout Shako for the incredible price of just two refined? Why should the student with the better performance in class get better grades? Why should the same volume of lead be heavier than the same volume of feathers? Why should you solve practical problems as compared to problems like "What is beauty?" Why should this thread definitely not be closed instead of moving this discussion back to General? Why should you assume new accounts generally are not alts but still accept the reality of the situation that this argument has gone on long enough that it would make sense for ASIC to reach for desperate measures, especially considering the fact that this new user has pretty much been the only other person in this thread arguing for random crits other than ASIC?
So why does it make sense that I in specific would reach for desperate measures, and not someone else?
How old are you
i mean its kinda like you vs the world thing going on in this thread and that "biggiesmalls" guy just joined like a few hours ago and he does looks like someone imitating-but-not-that-good ASICs
this thread is not entirely useless. asic's reputation will live on and he will be ignored in any serious discussion.
I did me vs the world the last times as well. Brokkhouse said that the argument has gone on long enough for me to get desperate. So what are the signs of desperation? You are desperate when you don't have any options. I am pretty certain I have got plenty of arguments left. I mean look at how I replied to this post: TF2 Random Critical Hits If you look back at the previous threads, I was never the one calling for the discussion to end. On the other hand, although I don't think the guy is an alt account*, if it is it makes sense for one of you guys to have made it: What group of people has been hurling accusations since page 1? They refuse to prove what they say, and keep doing it. That seems desperate to me. If I wanted to shill or astroturf for my self, why would I do it half-assed? Here are a few things to note about the topic: When one wants to sockpuppet properly they make an account before it is needed. A few months, maybe a year? A brand new guy looks like a sock, and older account doesn't. The sockpuppet has a decent amount of posts before it starts shilling (or is used as a ban evasion). *For a few reasons: Lurkers exist. Someone may have seen this thread and decided to post. This thread has been linked to on /tf2g/, so someone may have seen it and decided to comment. The guy didn't just post in this thread, he posted in an unrelated topic as well.
I mean honestly it isn't like we're making fun of ASIC because we've run out of arguments and need to resort to ridiculing him, were making fun of him because he has run out of arguments and we need to resort to ridiculing him to continue the thread ASIC, the one thing you can do to stop this madness is stop posting, I guarantee you the thread will die instantly
I have played the game since roughly 2009, very rarely have I seen players actually advocate for total removal of the random crit system. Sure, you had the occasional "aw shit, i got killed, fuck random crits!" people but those were far and few between. Additionally, back then there STILL was the ability to host your own servers without random crits. Why bother reading 13 pages of the same opinion? "i like crit is fun " "no fuck u competitive rrrrrrr people hate crits since beginning of game sry idiot your opinion are wrong" Even other people in the thread are actively talking about how pointless most of it is. Newpunch's quoting system is being absolutely silly right now so bare with me as I use italics to multiquote. "Just because it was in the game for 10 years does not mean that it works - and while you have commands to disable crits we have to be honest, there are no good servers to play on, plus the mechanic shouldn't be even a thing" Something being in the game for 10 years is definitely a sign of the community accepting it. If it really was such a god awful flawed system like everyone is preaching it to be, Valve would've been considering removing it VERY long ago. This isn't a new feature that was added last month, this has been around for a fucking decade and people are now asking Valve to remove it on a whim just to cater to epic E-Sport men. And just because people have memed and spammed "random crits are fair and balanced" in a 2fort pub doesn't meant the community hates them. As for "there are no good servers to play on", host your own then! If you want to play a version of the game that nobody else is hosting, that tells me two things Maybe you should host your own server for it Maybe you actually shouldn't host it, because the lack of servers hosting it implies the community probably isn't really interested in that at all. "The mechanic shouldn't even be a thing" is an opinion so I'll just ignore it for now. "Random crits remove depth from the game by allowing you to insta-winning a fight you're currently in, or losing it for you in that matter - they don't impact the gameplay in any positive way, and even if you say "but new players get them too so they can have a chance to win!!!!!", no you're wrong here too" Random crits removing depth from the game is ultimately wrong. You could say it simplifies a lot of combat situations, but if anything it really adds a layer of unpredictability to your average encounter and forces you to be able to adapt if your opponent gets a lucky shot. I never said anything like that last part, I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to put words in my mouth before I even respond. "The chance for rolling a crit increase as you deal more damage, and it counts all the damage done in last 20 seconds - better players are even more likely to get those, so your poor billy.barbara2007 will probably get random critted by a plat soldier rather than he'll random crit him - and even then, if that new guy shouldn't random crit him, he should lose to that plat soldier fair and square without some dumb mechanic deciding "ok, were gonna win the match for you"; I never mentioned any of this, but if anything this just proves that it's more in depth than the oversimplified babby "retard get lucky shot boom free kil NOT FAIR >:(" like everyone else in the thread seems to be painting it as. "Not really gonna talk about this further, as it's been already talked over by other people, you can read their posts as to why this mechanic is dumb; however saying that "but it's been in the game for 10 years wtF????????????????" and telling us to basically just frick off to some community server (which btw are garbage where I live if you're curious) is just stupid" If you have the right to advocate for removing an element of the game that has been around for a decade, I have the right to tell you to "frick off" to your own server where you can play the version of the game you want without bothering other people who might be playing to have fun. Also, why bother even posting if you're going to end it with what comes down to "im 2 smart for this thread dont @ me"? "That biggiesmalls might be a proxy alt actually. Three posts. Joined hours ago, meme profile description. Spews inexperienced opinions. Checks out alright." someone with a different opinion? woag there was another guy with a different opinion earlier!! must be the same person!! I'm joking, of course. Of course my account probably does look incredibly suspicious so I can't blame you for thinking that. I had an account on here forever ago but I lost it. My friend linked me this thread and I wanted to drop my opinion because it's sort of sad to see 9 people gang up on a guy for 13 pages. And no it wasn't the Asci guy, so knock it off with the "hurr is a alt XDDD ban he!!!" posts. Don't call me inexperienced either, because I've played this game for most of my life. Just an attempt to insult and discredit me because I have the wrong opinion I guess. As for whether crits belongs in competitive, I say who gives a fuck because competitive should be a different game anyway. Each class' competitive meta is just whatever is closest to its Quake World TF equivalent. I'm surprised Valve hasn't just made a new branch for it at this point, kind of like how PUBG has the test server.
"I have played the game since roughly 2009, very rarely have I seen players actually advocate for total removal of the random crit system" this is called "selective perception"
It's also completely anecdotal evidence that has no bearing n whether or not the system should be removed. I could just as easily say I have literally never heard anybody except this random new account and ASIC actually defend crits (which is true).
Yeah sure whatever. I've asked multiple of my friends and they've all said the same thing. But I guess they have selective perception too, eh? The loathing of crits and the people whining to delete them mostly began to pop up after the F2P update, but VERY few and far between, and for some reason we're seeing a big surge of them in 2018. I suspect it's because people want TF2 to be an E-sport.
yeah your friends do aswell, lol. it's not a "coincidence". your feelings of "i dont care" is still emotional, even if it's on the ""good side"". A point of view that oversees balance above all is always the better view.
Dude there is nothing adapt to when you're freaking dead, there is no in-between unless the guy you're fighting can't aim at all
A single random crit isn't always enough to one shot you. Unless you play exclusively spy/scout/sniper. What are you even talking about? what are you referencing when you mention my "feelings of 'i don't care'"?
you clearly don't care about the balance issues random crits are responsible of, yes?
I don't care about what they do in competitive play. I don't think they cause any particular issues in casual play, at least not enough to warrant removing them from the game 10 years too late.
just because valve has not acted for X time does not mean the matter is okay since it's been ignored for long. infact valve has shown the will to do something about it this very last update by adding a survey for it. it's certainly not out of the picture.
Rremember how random damage spread was a thing for 10 years then it got removed and literally no one complained except for players who relied on full charge machine bodysuit so we can safely disregard their opinions on balance.
ok? not sure what to tell you. if valve removes crits nobody is going to cry but it will surely spark up a totally unnecessary divide in the community and i bet every tf2 related forum will be scorching hot and untouchable for a solid couple weeks, if not longer. it's not worth getting in the way of some players fun just so you can have the entire game your way. right now you can just host and play on servers without crits. if you remove crits we can't play with crits. see how this works?
who gives a shit about forums. it's about improving the game as a whole.
Setting the default to 0 rather than 1 doesn't make it impossible to play with crits. Just like it doesnt make it impossible to play stop that tank or vsh. Get over yourself.
the way to improve a game is objectively not by sanctioning out a massive part of your audience "who gives a shit about forums", he says on his 9 year old forum account.
Tf2 is still tf2 without crits. No one will complain about crits being disabled by default other than people who cant enjoy tf2 for being tf2.
