Thanks to my habit of visiting any videogame's page on Tv Tropes before I'm actually done with it and a jackass' comment on a YouTube video I may have spoiled myself the big twist about Atreus being this series' incarnation of Loki. Is that true or am I just reading into things too much?
just got the blades of chaos and holy shit this is so much fun
the answer is maybe don't read fucking spoilers further then?
I'll admit one thing I hate. The game has massive problems with attacks tracking. the Valks have multiple where I can see Kratos TELEPORT INTO THEIR CANNED ANIMATIONS when I'm nowhere near them. Or the big armoured guys who can, in any moment of slow motion, still track you instantly. Like, it looks visually bad even, where they spin around in one frame to hit you.
Do I just suck or are the harder difficulties fucked? I started on "give me a challenge" and the first enemies I encountered are tanky as all fuck and I eventually figure out that the best way to deal with them is constant juggling. Ok, fine. A bit tedious but I can deal with it. Continued on to the second chapter where higher level enemies, two handed axe wielders, and revenants are introduced and none of them can be launched. Finally gave the fuck up on trying to be cool and turned the difficulty to normal after like 20 deaths on that chapter, half of which were to the revenant bitch. Revenant alone had like twice the amount of health as normal despite her very nature of dodging everything but Atreus making killing her in a decent amount of time impossible. Does this shit only balance out once you progress far enough to get skills and gear to close the gap?
Combat isn't perfect. I've found genuine issues even on the balanced difficulty of just straight up trash ways of enemies doing damage. Or tracking. Seriously, fuck the tracking. If I can see you teleport onto Kratos to do a canned attack animation which I can't avoid. Fuck you. Seriously it's really, really bad.
Give me a challenge is at its hardest at the start, when things open up and you get more gear and options for combat it becomes way more manageable. But you can totally turn it down to normal or that first dungeon area sucks balls. I have the same issue with this game that I do all the other God of Wars. Overall its good and i've had a ton of fun with it, but the studio seems to always put in a handful of sections or encounters that are just shit, badly designed tedious unfun garbage and they must know they're doing it. Late game dark elves are a fantastic example of an enemy designed to be tedious annoying and no fun, but designed specifically to be all those things.
The big night guys and the Valkyries are actually, actually poorly designed for a lot of the things. Like, no enemy should fucking teleport you into an animation, or others who don't even have animations for tracking, but still do. Enemies in this game do both, and some do both simultaneously
I've never encountered an enemy teleporting fo me for an attack animation.
The Valkyries do it for their Valhalla move. They'll hit the ground and it will fucking teleport you into an animation literally like ten frames after they miss you. The hitboxes on it are fucked.
Just roll once, then dodge a few frames after that and you'll avoid it
If there's one enemy I think is completely fucked it's the fucking dickhead Dark Elf bosses Especially the one at Muspelleim Getting blinded is never fun, and now it gets to be invulnerable with the most annoying enemies of the game coming to back him up.
Trying to fight Kara is such a fucking pain, Kratos keeps fucking targetting the fucking draugr. I keep clicking off the draugr or anything yet it resets itself to one of them. Stop targeting them you fuckhead i'm trying to target Kara so I can throw my axe.
No. No axe throws for you.
Ok, I gotta admit, I wasn't sure how I felt about this game until I got to the dragon boss fight. I hate to use this word to describe things, but holy shit that was epic.

I keep getting these shitty bug men appear in my game and I think they're a glitch or something? I can't imagine something so shit was put in on purpose, maybe cut content that got left in by accident? Either way I really hope they patch them out at some point.
Dangit, I went to [sp]Muspelheim and completed the first arena with relative ease (the wolves and worms -part of the hard-part was me going "OH FUCK OH SHIT Oh I won?" but besides that ) but the second arena just fucks me up. The wolves 3-shot me, and those axe-dudes 2-shot me.[/sp]
Leave and come back. You are not ready, boy.
Gotta say, one of my favorite part of the game are the relationship and interactions between Kratos and Atreus, especially whenever the latter decides to turn up the sass
Was having so much fun with the game that I forgot to post these. https://imgur.com/a/BjsXtrP
That Kratos figure looks a little...troubled
Mid game weapon spoilers
You forgot the big stinkin spoiler warning at 6:40 and even bigger spoiler warning at 7:30
GIve him a break. He's been through a lot.
Wow, I just finished the main story. What a great game. It's so hard to talk about without spoiling anything though. Ahhhh.
Ok, I can understand that this game is building up the Aesir as the resident asshole, dog-kicking gods Kratos will have a pletora of excuses to kill, but to be honest the lenght the writers has gone to achieve this are at times really over the top and ridicolous. Like, Odin imprisoning Mimir, one of his best friends and confidant in the mythology proper, is already stretching it, let alone imagining Odin going to Mimir daily in order to torture him in the worst and original ways possible
It's not following the mythos 100% to begin wtih, why is changing it (but still being faithful) so the gods are in the wrong hard to believe?
Its about as faithful to the mythology as the original games were with greek myth. Its more just a setting for Kratos and BOIs story instead of an accurate retelling of the myths.
