I'm not against changing the mythos to fit the purposes of the narrative, but I do have issues about how drastic the change is compared to the source materials. In the Greek trilogy the main Olympian gods are potrayed rather faithfully to the classical mythos, as in superior beings not concerned at all with the human notion of morality who can completely pass as kind of bunch of assholes. It's also worth mentioning that Kratos own actions are partially to blame for the Greek gods becoming so paranoid, controlling and aggressive, given his actions between God of War and God of War II. God of War III also gives an actual plot reason for it in the form of the unleashed evils of the Pandora's Box corrupting the Olympian gods as early as at the end of the first game. In this new Northern trilogy however the player is immediately (and repeatedly) told that the Aesir are a bunch of unrepetend bullies and asshole while every mythologicalr race of creature who went against them is immediately painted as sympathetic to some degree (especially the giants). Odin gets the absolute worst of it, being consistently described as a self-serving, fake well-intentioned extremist who uses his warlock-like powers to spy on everyone in the realm and capture every percived menace and torture him/her/it in creative ways just for kicks. In the meantime Tyr is fondly remembered by everyone in the realm and is given some positive traits that were traditionally Odin's own attributes, just to nail down the concept that the state of affairs of the old ages were leagues better than this dark and suffucating Aesir dictatorship or something. Granted, we are only around the first game of this supposed new series and even in the mythos the Aesir weren't exactly the nicest folks, but for fuck's sake, that's really twistinga mythological source for one's own narrative ends
I mean I thinks its already been established that Kratos has kind of thrown the world off balance by fucking up Greece and travelling to midgard so it makes sense that things will deviate. Maybe in the GoW universe Odin is far more paranoid and brutal than he's typically portrayed seeing as he probably knows that God Killer Extraordinaire Kratos is coming to his realm.
I'm so confused as to how the world works in this series.
At some point I decided that all the chaos caused by Kratos at the end of God of War III was either: Localized entirely in the Greek region for some reason, as in the Greek gods were tasked to control their element specifically in Greeche. Subdued or otherwise disappeared during the time gap between games and the natural order started functioning again even without the related gods. So yeah, to this day I have no fucking clue
Every pantheon controls their own territory I'm guessing.
Gosh I didn't like this boss (Secret Chamber boss spoilers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zUlsRK7QLQ I'm not good with the summons she does. in this attempt (which I eventually failed) I managed to keep them at bay for a bit. It cuts off weird because I had to stand still for like 30s while holding Share-button to get the option to save a clip. She also does this blinding-explosion which I never caught in time and then couldn't tell what attack was coming at me so every time she did it was free hits for her.
DLC where you play as Brok. I can feel it in my scrote.
The game's already dropped down to $10 on Amazon. Lmfao. Nice job Sony. https://i.imgur.com/QOeoiTU.png
The bitter squirrel (Ratatoskr) is now my favorite character from the game, surpassing even Brok
I finally beat Muspelheim, Valkyrie and Impossible challenges included. I would be a very happy man if "Don't get hit!" -challenges didn't exist. Now I need to farm shitzillion Mist Echoes and beat up rest of the Valkyries (4 remaining, including the one in Nifelheim.
Finally beat Sigrun I wanna die.
Sigrun is hard but IMO its the good kind of hard. The kind that makes it fun, rather than bullshit artificial difficulty hard.
True. But the amount of times I could have won if not for their instant transmission death stomp makes me wanna die.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd56WCFmBmU I have to say, I'm enjoying the game a great deal of course, but I have to agree with a couple of points Yhatzee made in his review. To be honest I myself don't relay at all on the several activated skills I unlock, vastly preferring to relay on Atreus' magic arrows and counterattacks to win the day. Also, I can totally understand why doing yet another "Kratos goes around killing mythological figures with gay abandon and little justification" plot would had defied their clear aim to completely retool the series, and witnessing the bond between Kratos and Atreus developing before my eyes is endearing and interesting, but there really are times during my experience where the whole thing really seem to go around aimlessly and nothing of import happens, with the supposed bad guys just lurking in the background doing jackshit
You can't really rely on Atreus on the higher two difficulties I feel, I've seen footage of normal and he can do like 75% stun with 3 arrows on most enemies and that's greatly reduced on challenging and above. You can still do it but you need to use fists to build it up and can't rely on bow boi to do it all for you.
I forgot that the Escapist is still around.
A friend of mine who already finished the game on Normal attempted to play the harder difficulties but dropped them after a while, claiming that they are more punishing than actually fun (he mentioned specifically the majority of enemies' attacks being unblockable and Kratos' pitiful damage output)
I plan on completing this game on the Fuck You -difficulty (Give me God of War) after I'm done with everything on normal. I've completed the story now and have few Valkyries remaining, then I'm done unless I stumble upon missed side-quests.
Started the game on Give Me God of War difficulty. You need to learn the enemy weaknesses quickly, you need to learn to be aggressive, and you definitely need to use your abilities. Every fight is a struggle but you feel great when you get through them. Fun fact, if you do enough damage to an enemy they can level up and regain much of their life, and Kratos' regular attacks don't stun so you need to learn to use Atreaus.
I won't lie everything up to the game opening up and you actually finding gear, like the first couple hours. Is tedious shit on the harder difficulties and I almost quit back down to normal when I tried. But once you start powering up it becomes way more manageable.
So, finally after countless hours I completed God of War and I have to say that I am absolutely blown away by this game. I was never really a huge fan of the series but still played the games. This sequel is absolutely amazing on so many levels. From the gameplay to the cinematics and free roaming stuff, this game is just great. It's meticulously crafted and it shows.
Ending Spoilers: Can't Freya just bring Baldur back to life like she did with Mimir?
Apparently Mimir says something about this. He is not alive in a true sense, but rather undead and he states that's not a fate that Freya would want for her son. Seems a little contrived to me, but apparentlyBalder does eventually come back to life during Ragnarok in some fashion, but I cannot find where I read that for the life of me. Perhaps it could be done as some sort of last ditch against the Frost Giants if that's where the story goes.
I really hope he does comes back. Dude feels like the perfect rival for Kratos.
Baldur doesn't come alive during Ragnarok, he returns from Hel AFTER Ragnarok ends with his brother Hod. Although I don't know if Hod will be in this series considering Kratos basically did what Hod was meant to do (kill Baldur) although in Hod's case he was tricked by Loki
Wouldn't be too surprised if Kratos just replaces Hod and the story goes like the original, but with Kratos and Baldur coming back during/after Ragnarok in place of Hod.
i've been doing every side quest i can find, and i'm up to the ice giant part, and every armour i find or can craft is worse than mine. i'm level 4 and do 135dmg, am I just overlevelled or does good shit come soon?
Which armor do you have? Tyr's?
Most of Tyr's was underpowered. using Metal Plated Shoulder Guard (lv4), Tyr's Gauntlets (lv4), & War Belt of the Traveler (lv5)
There are a decent amount more armor coming after that but it mostly depends on your stat build as to if it'll be considered useful to you though.
