I've been telling my friends that I wouldn't be surprised if Retro is dead because they haven't done anything in 5 years, haven't announced anything and there's been absolutely 0 mention of them in regards to literally anything E3 so seeing that article has me nodding and going "yeah figured as much." But strangely enough seeing it in writing still has me kinda sad. Bummer if it's confirmed
Speaking of mostly dead studios https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/129/5ac7a34f-22b0-45dd-9a9c-6d4b5aefee9f/image.png Where's my Custom Robo?
I've been trying to get back into Splatoon 2 because of the Octo expansion but the motion controls still piss me off. Why the fuck does it force the stick's Y axis to be locked, and why the fuck does resetting the camera with Y not reset the y-axis? Playing with motion controls laying down is impossible because the camera points to the sky unless you sit up or tilt the switch to an uncomfortable angle, and in nearly every other game with good motion controls the stick's Y axis is not locked so you can use the sticks for major movements and motion controls for minor adjustments. I see no reason why there's no option to change these - plenty of other games allow it. With the grind rail stages you basically need motion controls to win because of the amount of moving targets, and thus I have to dock my switch and take out my Pro Controller and play sitting up to even attempt to beat the stage. I usually play laying down or on the go so I've just been skipping these stages but I know it'll bite me in the ass if I want to 100% the expansion.
Why would Retro be shutting down anyways? Their games have historically sold pretty well, right? And I doubt the Donkey Kong Country games were made on a tremendous budget.
Bad Management, Extremely slow production cycles, Nintendo bein' Nintendo, Most of the staff left awhile ago and it's been kind of a shell, nothing for 5 or so years etcetc. Numerous reasons really.
I agree that Y-axis should be an option, but locking it is the most natural way of doing it. Using the stick is for broad movements, you'll never need to do broad movements up and down. Unlocking it would result in accidentally offsetting your aim up or down a little every time you meant to turn 90°. Pressing Y resets your resting position. So if you want to look forward but your character is looking up, look up with your hands then press Y, now if you go back to resting position you'll look forward.
considering retro AFAIK has been MIA since 2014 in terms of projects i dont think it would be super surprising. would probably mean they've made multiple failed attempts and wasted a ton of money trying to get projects started

The first Nintendo endorsed race war
Also, if you choose team Octoling you will play as an octoling, even if you don't have the DLC!
I disagree that it's the most natural because people have different notions of what's most natural. If I'm aiming at someone or a group of people at a higher/lower elevation then me in a video game I like to set my aim fixed to the height they're at so my shaky hands don't throw off my aim. Since I tend to snipe or play mid range it's very important for me to be able to keep the y axis still and just focus on the x axis aiming, which the stick is great at since the sticks have a bit of a dead zone to them to prevent accidental movement, and there's no way to set separate y/x axis motion sensitivity to simulate that. Ideally when I let go of the stick the height stays constant, compared to motion where if my arms get tired or my hands shake it throws off my shot due to the accidental change in y axis. Kind of hard to describe but it's kind of like sniping where you keep level and wait for the enemy to walk into your crosshair, it's easier to predict. So for me, the most natural way to play involves using the y axis stick rather than y axis motion. I agree it should be an option because it's 2018 and accessibility is a huge concern nowadays, even the colorblind options are lacking in Splatoon (can only lock team colors, not force them to accessbile contrasting colors) and people often forget motor disabilities are a thing. Also with the Switch's main feature being portable play being forced to play while not traveling/laying down seems counterintuitive.
It's gonna be so fun seeing all the racism posts and what side is the true master race.
Another great turf war perhaps?
I have a feeling this is going to swing the vote to be honest :S That and it's brand new thing vs old thing.

is that kbm on switch? how and does it work okay
is there a release date for dark souls remastered yet? All it says on the eshop is summer 2018
Works great, though it's a bit of a hack. I'm using a Xim Apex adapter for Xbox One/PS4 with a PS4 Controller and it in PS4 mode, then connecting that to a Mayflash Magic NS to convert from PS4 -> Switch Pro.
after googling this it seems like instead of doing all that you can just use a ReaSnow Cross Hair (if anyone has used one how does that work? (i dont want a million adapters))
If the mouse actually emulated the gyro movement it could be neat.
I looked into that and it didn't seem to offer the same level of support as XIM, sort of a knockoff. I think price wise they end up being the same after the million adapters, and at least with the mayflash you get other benefits like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-ProCube-Wireless-Controller-nintendo-u/dp/B01BY7Z9OO
What's the input delay and how smooth does the mouse movement feel? If it feels the same or similar to using the XIM with the PS4 I wouldn't mind giving this a whirl.
Splatoon felt exactly like PS4 to me, but Paladins feels like garbage. I think it has a really weird deadzone that I have to tweak around.
No release date yet. Honestly I'm expecting to be delayed again.

you couldn't pay me to use this controller the one and only thing i would get an adapter for is kbm. i will literally never use another controller with it. so if it comes to the same price i choose the one with the least amount of adapters (which would also inherently have the least input delay whether you're noticing it or not)
Am I supposed to put mobile game ramblings here? I used to use the Nintendo mobile thread but that hasn't been remade yet
Nintendo Mobile General It has been remade, it's just that it wasnt put under Mario and it was swallowed by bot posts in the games subforum.
