Sorry but not really at all. He still doesn't have a defined personality as most NPC's don't react to what you say, let alone the fact in most entire games you only get around 3 chances to say something. Link is still a stiff voiceless board 99% of the time and the HIYAAA jokes, like it or not, are still as applicable as ever.
Wouldn't call him stiff, he is clearly a lot more goofy and energetic than his normal "adult" counterparts, like TP or OoT.
He's literally given a personality in Breath of the Wild's diary entries.
So I noticed a game on the eShop called Assault Gunner HD had come out, and I was curious if anyone else is familiar with the game and if it's any good? Metacritic doesn't have many favorable reviews of it. Maybe seeing the Daemon X Machina reveal at e3 reminded me of just how parched I am for another Armored Core, but I'm itching for another game like it, and I wanted to see if this one was any good.
https://youtu.be/rzNek4MfK5M?t=1h11m53s Zelda (Quoting Someone): "Be sure to take the time to soothe your mount. That's the only way it will know how you truly feel." Zelda (Referring to Link): "Your advice was quite helpful." I guess that was just her imagination
If I have to read a book from a characters diary to gauge if they have a personality or not then they've failed at their goal because it's telling and not showing. If Link emoted more outside of the crossdressing scene, showed anger, fear or literally anything there would be a leg to stand on but having the option to say "I like eating tomatoes" isn't anything. He's as deep as a puddle and has the generic hero archtype down because that's all he was ever really meant to be. Kirby of all characters shows more personality as he's able to get upset, happy, scared etc. He reacts to characters and does more than just stare at them like a goldfish. I like Links design but the whole reason people wanted a gender switch option was because Link is such a piece of cardboard. Let's not pretend otherwise here.
He uh, also acts like the diary talks about in game. He's a snarky but anxious wreck who is desperate to please everyone, the dialogue choices and cutscenes reflect this, and it's very clear that BotW link is keeping quiet. Also what the fuck are you talking about, every RPG ever has personalities established and elaborated on through lore entries. I'll crap on a lot of things from BotW but like, that Link is the first to explicitly have character traits outside of just being "Link" for a long time
If there's one thing I liked it's that Link actually has a direct family member this time since Wind Waker. I love Link being this kid who rises up to the challenge (Wind Waker Link being my favorite because it wasn't even in his destiny to be the Hero) but seeing Link have a back story was a nice refreshing change of pace as well.
One thing that continues to be retroactively weird is Link and Zelda's relationship. They're fated to constantly get together, but most games just has them as like, acquaintances outside of Wind Waker, SS and BOTW.
I don't think they're fated to be together, it's moreso that Link is always fated to be guided by Zelda. Some times this results in friendship, relationship or Link just leaving after the job is done.
Hey now, don't ruin the head canon. Link and Zelda forever, baby.
I'm still convinced (head-canonish) Link hooked up with Malon after his adventures in OOT and MM. I wouldn't know how to explain TP Link's rancher heritage otherwise. I also like to think the Hero of Time was killed by Stallord, no evidence or implications to suggest that, but I like to think there was a low-key Twili invasion/attack before TP and OOT Link sacrificed himself to put Stallord inside the Abiters Grounds.
whatever happened to embracing all elements of a game and not just the stuff on the surface level i'll admit the english localization fucked with shit by putting the slate journal entries in a different perspective rather than link's own, but why are you so bent out of shape over this
Where are the journal entries in game? I'm playing through BOTW and I don't think I've read anything regarding Link.
There are games, especially recent ones, that definitely push towards Zelda. And that's fine. But, aside from Spirit Tracks where she's always interacting with you as well as early Skyward Sword, it's hard to feel a connection with a character that you never interact with in the game itself outside memories or a few cutscenes. She can be the cutest at times (like in ALBW, Ocarina, SS or BotW) but there are characters that just seem to work so much better for the Linkster. Like Malon. Or Irene. Or Paya.
Nah, Link always ends up with the Farm Girl at the end. Or at least, it's happened in OOT and TP
Can you show me any hint of him being anxious or literally anything because all I recall are him just standing with his hands on his hips as NPC's prattle off what they want at him with you getting the choice to say "Sure I'll do it" or "Nah maybe later". Like even the people translating Link's Diary (that I saw) say that it's sad that the entries are gone because Link is just a generic ass silent protag. Only character that had a personality that I can really recall are Zelda and Urbosa. (The other guardians got a little bit too but not nearly as much screen time it felt)
Honestly I prefer silent protagonist Link over BOTW's goofy Link that makes seal puns and brags about his combat skills.
There is no reason to really keep this going. Sift is looking for big instances of personality. Not just the small things that can be missed, or the things you can do/say that take more thinking on the players part to give personality. As I recall during most important story related scenes Link didn't really have much expression. But he does have his own personality crafted by the player. Both sides are right, but are approaching "personality" from opposing angles. Just agree to disagree, so we can go back to arguing about other nonsense.
Google express has 25% off any item that is in stock in your area from select stores, which makes it a good way to pick up a switch or games on the cheap. Apparently works for preorders too, I was thinking of getting The World Ends With You
Yeah sure. I'm more into a narrative based side of things as just writing and not showing it just feels kinda hollow. Can move on.

Making a separate post because this has to do with the recent investor call, the Q & A. The one thing I want to point out here is the plan currently is to release 20 to 30 indie titles a week for the Switch.
Sure on paper that sounds impressive. But how many of them are gonna be worth while and not just wasted screen space on the e-shop?
That uh, sounds like a total clogging nightmare. I'd rather have it curated Nintendo. Eshop sounds like it's about to become a disaster area if that's true
If that's true I think the switch is going to very quickly become less lucrative to indies as quality titles start getting lost.
Why does Nintendo keep letting literally pure garbage on their shop.
The google play store Nintendo E-Shop.
