Smash 4 did have a lot of gimmicky stages. No doubt it's fun to experiment and we did get some cool ideas like the dual-plane thing in Jungle Hijinxs or those danger zones in Great Cave Offensive, but there weren't enough more basic stages. I felt like Brawl had the best balance of craziness and simplicity in its stage selection. With Ultimate seeming to bring every stage back, at least it seems we won't be strapped for choice now. We got all the crazy stuff and plenty of saner stages, and that form toggle ought to make everyone happy.
Of course, my biggest concern is how good the stage builder is gonna be this time. I've said this before, but I ended up with over 300 custom stages in Brawl but I don't even think I broke 100 in Smash 4. Smash 4's builder had some expanded capabilities like freeform platforms and going outside of the TV-safe area (and the lava was a godsend compared to the old spike blocks), but its usability took a massive step back. I'm not asking for the kind of amenities I have in Inkscape here, but even just the ability to modify shapes after you finish drawing them would go a long way towards bringing back the kind of "make it up as you go along" process you could do in Brawl with being able to move blocks around and such. Smash 4 didn't have as many toys to play with either, even though barrels were fun and moving platforms were much improved over Brawl. Also that damn grid-offset thing in Smash 4 when you tried to draw shapes edge-to-edge was a total dealbreaker. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?!

In the Octo Expansion, man that boss was bad. Really bad. Like "How do we make a 1 on 1 fight frustrating?" , cue adding every single bullshit thing. The autobombs are just an unnecessary extra. That, and that entire fourth phase is just awful. There's next to no feedback that anything you're doing is hurting them and even then, you have to just randomly assume that you have to get in close and basically let yourself take damage to get enough ink to rapidly throw bombs because, of course, they regenerate
Holy crap it's bad. I even beat it quickly, but that fight is like, hilariously terrible
Speaking of Bomberman R, I do hope we get the B64 guys eventually. Altair's Crew and Sirius.
It also would've been fun if Nintendo's exclusive was Wario, due to Wario Blast.
Playing Octo Expansion, and...can anyone give me tips? Because I'm not having fun at all, between the necessary motion controls, the cost of each mission, and the overall lack of interesting mechanics at play. This isn't a fun kind of difficulty like Hollow Knight, which I'm basically done with at this point (fantastic game I just ran out of stuff to do), but maybe I'm just missing something.

Just thought I'd write about this because I'm not sure what to think of it and it's unlikely people know about it.
After the Octo Expansion update Nintendo changed the way their Salmon Run data gets to the Online App. Originally when there was a Random item in rotation the server would just give you a null value. Now they put weapons into another subcategory and created a subcategory called "coop_special_weapon". Currently the only time a weapon is under coop_special_weapon for a Salmon Run rotation is for "Random". (My Discord bot is getting this data to display Salmon Run schedules in a Discord embed which is how I see this)
Seems really weird for Nintendo to change this since Salmon Run wasn't really the big thing that changed in Octo Expansion. If I had to guess they might be planning for waves that explicitly give someone a Grizzco weapon instead of it being a lucky thing to get in Random, since that would make sense if they're separating weapons and special weapons.

Looks like Treehouse is going to be localizing the new Fire Emblem game.
How much better is the input latency with a plugged-in switch pro controller compared to a wireless joycon?
I can't wait for character names being altered by one letter and the supports with their most prominent character development being replaced by pun contests.
Oh great, can't wait to see half the game removed and the dialogue altered so much that it's a new story.
...Necessary Motion controls?
If I remember correctly NoA mentioned they were going to be working more closely with the original developers (in this case IntSys) so that things that would be considered questionable and removed from the localisation would be removed from the original version.
mario is a brave plumber wh ogo on many adventure
he jump through fire land cold land and sometimes egypt to save princess from enemy turtle
his brother luigi sometime havefire
Just beat Octo Expansion, that finale was amazing.
Also I don't know why you guys are having trouble with it, I only got stuck on 2 levels.
1 because of the Difficulty (Protect the orb, the one where you go into the warzone, not the one where you use a cannon.)
And the other because I just couldn't get the timing right(Destroy all with boxes with one shot.)
However I am not going to attempt the hidden final boss, I can't even kill people in a regular splatfest and yet it's supposedly tougher than most Players.
Tried out the Octopath Traveler demo. So far it seems amazing, and I especially like the unique art style. Cannot wait for the release.
I attempted the secret boss fight, I fucking give up.
I don't give a shit, I am a pussy, go fuck myself.
God damn this bullshit.
Even if I won, I'd still lose because it's not fun.
So Pearl and Marina are totally dating now right?
100%ed the expansion earlier tonight and loved every second of it, was definitely worth my $30. would love to see more in the future because dang was it fun
never beating that secret boss fight though fuck that

"You know, as a company, we want to surprise and delight our fans. That's what we live to do," Fils-Aime said. "So when leaks happen, it's really disappointing. We work hard to maintain the confidentiality of our information. In this day and age where everyone has a camera and everyone is looking for their 10 seconds of internet fame, it's really tough. But we try hard, very hard to keep our information confidential and keep leaks from happening."
Even if none of that E3 stuff leaked beforehand, people still would've been disappointed. I love Smash Bros. but that was way too much.
It was great Smash info, but probably not the right venue.
They could have done a Smash Direct after their E3 presentation and addressed the changes and mechanics there instead.
I'll say that the E3 Smash Presentation was long but I understand their idea: It was focused on appealing the competitive players. New fighter changes, new techniques, stage hazard being able to be turned off, all stages have Battlefield and Omega version. Not only that, they had the Invitational on that same day with top smash players.
The next Smash Direct is definitely going to be focused for the casual side of players, especially single player mode. All-Star Mode, Adventure Mode, Classic Mode, Training Mode, Event Match, Special Smash, Trophies, a new "party mode" somewhat like they tried to do with Smash Tour (burn it with fire) and Smash Run (pretty fun actually).
Hm, you'd think they'd have it the other way around and all the casual-focused stuff at E3, since it's their biggest stage of the year and that's what most viewers are going to care about.
They did by showing that every smash character is returning for Ultimate. That's huge for casual.
You can also tell that Nintendo really wants to get into the eSport. Splatoon 2, ARMS (pretty big in japan), and now Ultimate.
Looks like Nintendo is creating a Nintendo Switch show for Disney XD:
