I've never played Overwatch myself because it costs cash monies I don't feel like spending when I already play so many other shooters, but yeah, they're both Hero Shooters, so there's a lot of similarities.
For instance, Androxus is basically just a McCree that can air dash, Lex and Zhin fought over who got Reaper's kit, Evie and Inara fought over Mei's kit, etc.
MTA's free play online lobby system is terrible it turns out
You can only have 4 people in a room.
You can't put a password on the room or hide it from friends
If you do singles, two players can't play until the match is finished.
This a huge step down from the lobby systems in MK8 and ARMS, which both came out last year. In those games multiple matches could be on at once, and the lobbies had more than a few players
One of the rule of thumbs for all Hi-Rez games (or most games really) is that their Reddits are the vocal minority and should always be taken with a huge spoon of salt. There was a time during when the Smite reddit were trying to "boycott" death stamps (When you kill an enemy it leaves a tiny spray on the floor.) and saying it was going to ruin the game forever. A week later, everybody forgot it ever happened and decided on what other thing they wanted to complain about the next patch.
Don't listen to Reddit.
Hell, Overwatch itself is guilty of taking from other games already. Winston is pretty much total ripoff of Cheston from Super MNC (which itself suffered from the "buy your heroes" problem, in contrast to the original Monday Night Combat being a pay-up-front game.)
Paladins' monetization with characters isn't really an issues, imo. The (PC version) of the game is completely free to play, you just have to unlock the characters or buy the "Champion Pack" which unlocks all current and future champions forever for $30. It seems scummy at first, but Champions are the only gameplay things you can unlock/buy. To put it simply: The $30 champion pack is no different than if the game was just a $30 purchase only game, like Overwatch (Which is $40).
The F2P aspect of Paladins can easily be seen as a "permanent trial" version of the game that lets you play forever, just with limited amount of characters at the start.
Probably obvious asf but I just noticed Octo Valley in Marina's Chat song.

I guess that's fair enough. It'd be no different than if the ARMS demo we have now were to also offer a permanent Test Punch mode with rotating characters; something that I think many people would even find welcome.
This might be one of my favorite piece of Kirby fanart I've ever seen

Just wanted to say that last one isn't true. Me and a buddy did doubles earlier via the net. It just takes forever for a random to join in.
Man does this game still have a Summer 2018 release date? I'm getting worried that it's gonna be delayed or something.
And complete, got to royalty. 2238 Splatfest power, 16 wins, 8 losses, but a lot of those were mirror matches. This Shifty Station is pretty fun, I've seen battles take place at three different areas on the stage at once instead of at chokepoints.
Highlights of my Octoling's first Splatfest include:
Cloudy with a chance of obnoxious motherfuckers

and our guy disconnected right away, so we had a squid party the entire match

I camped the first area where everyone meets every time, while the rest of my team took care of the paddles area. Think that was the most fun I had with a Shifty map
Give this a read.
There are plenty of similarities, but there are also plenty of differences. I played a few rounds last night after tinkering with most of the heroes in practice, and I really like it. It's a neat combo of hero shooter and MOBA (insofar as buying items ingame), the cards add some cool strategy around picking a hero, and it looks good in handheld. It's a battery sucker, though, and the load times aren't short.

I think I found a facepuncher
Then put his ass down. I'm so fucking rusty holy shit. If it's No Pulp vs No Pulp I'm gonna get my ass beat but I'm winning against Pulps so I should be happy. But I'm not because good god Same Team fights are way more frequent.
Also everyone is using dualies now. Disregarding that image I've seen entire games of nothing but them.
I haven't had a single mirror match as Team Pulp. Y'all are a bunch of fiber-rejecting heathens and I'm pretty sure there's going to be a noticeable margin in the popularity contest.
One thing I've found is that team Pulp has a hard time discerning friends from foes.
Other that that I've been having no issue finding smoothie-fearing No Pulp cowards. Probably the most even Splatfest, from my experience.
I hate it when my team is winning by a considerable landslide... only because someone on the other team disconnected or ragequit. Turf War is so easy to imbalance, and it just doesn't feel like a satisfying victory. We didn't win because we were good, we won because we have a numerical advantage and can steamroll the other team.
Pulp players won't get mirrors as often as only 5 damaged people picked it
No joke 80% of my matches are mirrors, there just isn't enough pulp going around to the point I'd be shocked if it wasn't like a 65-35 split at least. That being said I fully expect sanity to lose out because the less popular sides tend to win.
If you rush straight to the middle of the map without inking our side of the map first you go to hell before you die

I have never seen the game skip the match intro lmao
Every max rank completion is a fucking sigh of relief. It's hard to completely love this game sometimes

I just wanted to say, I like pulp.
I also wish splatling gun was better, or that I didn't suck at it... I wanted to be Heavy Weapons Squid.

"It’s not to say that there’s no possibility that we’ll ever consider releasing some paid premium multiplayer content,” [Nogami] explained, which would add another barrier of entry to Splatoon fans. “The main thing we want to maintain is this even playing field for players."
I'm slightly concerned that he's hinting at the possiblity of splintering everyone with multiplayer DLC, but I have to wonder if by "even playing field" he means dedicated servers.
In my defense, we were 3v4. :p
For anyone still on the fence about Mario tennis:
If you play it for the single player, don't do it. It's a fun 6 hour tour but not substantial enough for 60 bucks.
If you have a friend to play it with online: Must buy. This game is incredibly fun with a friend, both online and local.
Single player Mario Aces was a major let down. I only did the main missions though so I didn't get any of the other rackets, but from what I saw they just had higher stats.
It's just some CPU battles, minigames, and boss battles which are also just minigames basically.
All my matches in favor of the superior choice that is pulp have gone almost too smoothly. Out of maybe 50 matches, I've lost 6.
No mirror matches at all, so I doubt pulp is gonna win popularity (which I expected), but if my general experience with this Splatfest is any indication of things, I could see Pulp at least taking solos. I think everything is gonna hinge on teams.
