a 3 man competent engineers with pyros patrolling their nests isnt fun to fight against damn
What would you guys say are the top 3 Valve maps, both with gameplay and aesthetics?
Gameplay:
Badwater, Powerhouse (controversial I know), and probably a tie between Granary and Badlands.
Badwater is just one of the most enjoyable maps in the game. It's long but not so long that fights can get stale. It has multiple unique areas, enough flanks that Spies can be useful, and a metric shitton of fun Sentry spots. I still wish Badwater_Pro existed and was in the game, but Badwater is for my money probably the most balanced and my favorite map.
Powerhouse is just fun. It's actual TF2 fun, too, not deathmatch fun like 2fort and Hightower. Any class can be useful, and a balanced match goes on for as long as you want it to. There are multiple flanks and no class feels limited on the map. I enjoy every time I get to play Powerhouse.
Granary and Badlands are just classic 5cp maps. They feel like a drag to walk through when your team is ahead and you die, but aside from that universal 5cp complaint, they're always fun for me.
Aesthetics is hard to answer because almost every unique looking map isn't Valve-made, most Valve TF2 maps are all the same industrial 60s spytech look. I'd say my favorites are Thunder Mountain, because I really like its decrepit rainy dreary atmosphere, Viaduct because it's a pretty snowy map that isn't overly snowy like coldfront or barnblitz, and Hydro. Even though Hydro is an absolute ass map to actually play on, it's undeniably one of the prettiest, most diverse, and most detailed maps in the game.
I'd agree with all of these, only swap out Granary/Badlands with Goldrush.
Aesthetically (and a close runner-up for gameplay-wise) it's gotta be Mann Manor, hands down, no contest. I also really like how Egypt looks, but I also feel like 2Fort/Dustbowl/Well are the first maps I think of when I think "TF2".
Mann Manor isn't valve-made
And Egypt isn't Valve-made.
Obviously a very subtle allusion to Sniper being a coward.
Valve did make the untexured base version of the map that Mountain Lab and Mann Manor were based on.
ye but if you're talking about aesthetics that's a bit of a moot point

if this is accurate, it looks like you can check for cloaked spies with the inspect key
Easy hot fix would be to make it you can't inspect invisible players. Although thankfully that seems like it wouldn't be all that easy to use. I'd presume you'd have the cmmand bound to your WASD keys since in a game like this, keeping mobile will always be a thing. But then you'd need to make a script so that even when held down it's constantly using that command over and over correct to get the full use out of it?
You can spam F while moving, it's not like you have 2 fingers that have to be on W/S and A/D at all times
That being said I don't think it's accurate. If it is, it might just be a recent bug.
I really prefer mann manor over mountainlab, even if the differences are minimal, the differences on some places between second and last really allow defense to be more aggressive than just turtling in last the entire match
Looks like it only works if they're disguised as someone on your team, though.
when...when will a spy not be disguised as one of your teammates?
Only time I could imagine is if your running with your own team or running dead ringer. Then it can be useful to disguise as one of your own teammates.
S/O to my favorite pub strategy: Everybody on offense in an A/D or PL map goes Spy with Dead Ringer, disguise as a friendly Heavy, runs out the spawn at the same time, either at a specific person or just forward into the enemy team, and use dead ringer (and decloak as soon as you take damage). For added terror, everybody press B when they have their knives out to switch their disguise's weapon to fists. For added hilarity, have a few actual Heavies playing along.
That's very interesting.
honestly I wouldn't mind a riot shield for heavy, but if we get a riot shield instead of an actual minigun I'll be pretty disappointed
I'm completely biased on this subject. With that said, I see Doublecross used in a lot of promo shots. Uncle Dane uses it to Rancho. Valve themselves use it as the background to their full moon splash images. DC is certainly the best looking night themed Valve map.
That's handy because it's the best map for gameplay, period. Either as proper CTF with respawn times or as an instant respawn DM. This is exactly why it's tremendously unpopular and there are zero populated community servers that run it. I told you I was biased.
Probably the easiest rocket launcher to play against as a scout/soldier.
The passive regeneration of the Concheror should kick in 3 seconds after taking damage. Sometimes you hit two pipes against a Soldier, but he survives with a miserable 1 digit of health.

here's to another year
The person posting a screenshot of Asteroid every day has also hit day 20.
it should just be removed entirely.
conch is already good, and the health regen is just needless power creep.
It would be funny if a voiceline got played when you are autobalenced.
Maybe

It would probably be too much for new players, but I didn't mind the 3rd wall breaking with the MyM voicelines and it would make being autobalencing less of a serious thing.
Damn, missed the part where they specified "Valve made", my b
The comics are just gone, right?
I just had a game with my first hacker in like a month. Private profile and all.
One person got headshot right as they came out of a relatively weird spot, rocket jumping too.
He scoped in to shoot me and... bodyshot. He didn't realize you have to be scoped in for like 0.2s before headshots actually register.
Also Jay Pinkerton left so I'd say it's dead.
