The matchmaking system now has skill-based matchmaking, so if you keep playing it should figure out your skill level and start putting you in games with similarly skilled players
As was said above, there is Glicko in Casual now. It's not incredibly hard, but it does do it's job. Alternatively, grab a friend or two to guarantee that you have atleast some competent fellas with ya.
You can also play gamemodes like koth or plr which are a lot friendlier to the carefree dming/"what's an objective" playstyle, unless yer getting spawn camped.
So are Pyro's flames back to how they were before JI or what?
No, they aren't. Pre JI flames were visually not correct, these ones are. Apart from that they have damage ramp-up the longer you stick' em to people - however that seems to be incredibly finnicky. I think the overall damage was increased(?), too.
God no, good riddance to old flames. But they do require a lot more accuracy than they did when JI launched.
Similar in terms of how leading works, but much more reliable and the visuals actually match what you're seeing. It's kinda like the best of both worlds imo.
I think most people are happy where Pyro is at the moment; there could be more improvements but it's definitely better than what it was pre-Ji and when JI launched.
When was the last mann co sale?
Smissmas 2017 IIRC.
just as shitty as before in the grand scheme of the pyro class, yes
Yeah, aside from the blinding particles and airblast, there's little differences with him now compared to what he was like pre-JI.
Got to be shitty to have 450+ days of dev time for not much increase in Pyro viability.
This is what I’ve been explaining since the update dropped. It it failed at its main goal- update the pyro in a meaningful way. The base class is still the same no-range low dpm rushdown cannon fodder that it’s been since the degreaser/axe nerf. The new weapons failed too. Gas passer? Worthless, just fire a scotch shot at a crowd for the same effect, instantly. Thermal thruster? Dva’s jump jet ported to tf2, complete with the joysticks and all. Might be useful if it had it’s own weapon slot, but replaces your main damage dealer outside flamer range, making the class suicidally short ranged. Hot hand? A weapon wasted on a useless gimmick. Next. Dragons fury? The closest thing to a viable weapon, but still nerfed into uselessness and inconsistent/full of bugs. While the jungle content was nice and the campaign/balance/sfm were all great, this update failed the pyro outside flame and air blast consistency.
Be the seventh Sniper.
Isn't he even worse now that afterburn on the flamers was practically nerfed? Not that it was particularly dangerous in the past.
I find the afterburn more dangerous now, but not as annoying.
nah. flareguns got a big buff that way
Practically? They deal more damage in a shorter timespan: That's a buff.
But if it lasts for only 3 seconds then it'll do like 12 damage. Is there any data available on how long you need to spray someone to match the previous afterburn's?
not very long
That's a fair point - however for things like Flare guns, its a massive buff. As far as the question goes; Not that long. 2 Seconds I think are already enough? It's mostly there so you no longer stay on fire for 8 seconds after getting hit by a pyro thats wiggling all over the place - in direct combat with one you are likely to get the full afterburn experience.
Didn't they adjust flares to do the same amount of damage as before? I guess the damage is a little bit faster since it's slightly more damage per second but I don't think it's a huge buff for the flare guns.
i freaking love what they did with the pyro. He can play quite different now; for me at least. Being able to no airlock stun was definately needed, very glad for that finally being gone, as well as there are ways to skillfully utilize his airblast, as it has a aiming mechanic now. the damage is very nice now; afterburn is pretty deadly, especially flaregun afterburns. They brought back the axtinguisher. Lastly I very much am in favor of the new flame particles as well. It gives the pyro the ability to push without the method of damage. I had a match in granary, and we were able to push the last push because i utilized this mechanic. I sprayed flames all in front of my allies, while still pushing enemies back. It's a underrated mechanic that i very much enjoy. All in all, the pyro is no longer some gimmic-y combo-wombo class with degreaser, and has a few utilities in his arsenal. Many people are going to be annoyed with him, as he can reflect projectiles, dislocated players, ambush extremely effectively, hinder medic's healing ability on enemies, and smash sappers. These things are annoying, but it gives a strategic element you have to play against. I think it's very neat the class exists, and that there is a class that weilds a unique weapon such as a flamethrower with a bunch of nice mechanics integrated. His flamethrower may be annoying in close range, but it's more a deterrent to keep enemies at bay, than it is a weapon in many situations. Until Comp is fixed up to let us start testing out different maps, and different classes in a 6 format, it's really hard to say how powerful he truly is.
You er, must not play much serious tf2 if that's your assessment of pyro's current state... Better yes, but viable compared to the other choices of class? That's a still a tough sell.
Pyro post Jungle Inferno is proof that even if there's a dev on the team who mains a particular class, they won't get special treatment.
Valve is too conservative with their changes, that's the crux of the issue here. The Blue Moon patch notes state that the Thermal Thruster was intentionally undertuned because they were "afraid" of giving Pyro a tool that powerful; they certainly weren't trembling at the thought of giving Scout direct upgrade soda for four years.
I have the gut feeling that the heavy update is either going to end up ever so slightly adjusting heavy(like the pyro update after blue moon) or turning him into a nightmare for anyone but the heavy(like the pyro update)
Anyone looking for a ready steady pan team? I'm looking to play it but have like no friends
Hey did you want another pointless bingo? https://i.imgur.com/Nx1naEK.jpg too bad
