Starters having max IV is honestly just superb because 95% of the players won't care about the ultra-specifics, but they will notice if their starter is more reliable than usual, improving emotional attachment, which is seriously what they needed. I already always feel bad when I need to stash my starter after completing a game.
I never stash my starter. But I'm a casual player.
I'm a casual player too so I don't know the ultra-specifics, but I thought the starters were already above-average pokemon, ensured to be a reliable set piece in your party? I think making them competitively viable is good for players who don't want to get rid of their starter after the main game, but there's gotta be a better way to do that without just maxing all of their IVs. In saying that, I think there needs to be a way to make any mon competitively viable in terms of stats.
When my starter's perfect clone crawl out of the egg shell, even they do not have the cherished memories of our spelunking, I still name them after the original. I then condemn the inferior, original specimen I immortalize them in a special box with all my other starters.
A starter is just another member of the in-game team tho. If I get locked out of certain stuff for Charmander and Squirtle if I pick Bulbasaur I'd be nettled. Plus, if the main story takes 30 hours and I play for 300 in that file, I won't really pay attention to "cherished memories".
also it's not like let's go is going to have a competitive scene anyway.
Hell, VGC will run next year with USUM; perhaps by 2020 gen VIII will drop and be more traditional.
TM Learnsets 9 total Pokemon can learn the Megahorn TM not including Mew, and Play Rough has about the same amount. Disappointment.
Main character clothes (there are Team Rocket shirts, including a Jesse and James inspired ones https://twitter.com/_Mizumi/status/1061700194734096384
i like how there are eeveelution shirts for eeveelutions that aren't in the game
jeeze, editing the game already and it isn't even out https://twitter.com/Kaphotics/status/1061507872532525056
Clefable and Arcanine get Play Rough, Dewgong and Lapras get Megahorn. Everybody else already could learn them.
Starters having perfect IVs is a fantastic idea I hope they implement in all future games, gift pokemon or in-game trades should get that treatment too, maybe even legendaries
That's not fair What if there was an IV-related reason I don't take place in competitive play, or I once played competitively in an earlier generation, and haven't brushed myself up on the meta? Regardless of either situations, I think this statement is silly. As far as I was aware, the 'competitive grind' to rebuild your team after every single game is something many competitive players desire to see gone. Isn't one of the biggest complaints being that your original party is completely worthless past the main game?

a bit out of the loop here, the game leaked?
https://twitter.com/_Mizumi/status/1061662347595526144 The year is 2018. Society has become so advanced that we are now capable of texture mods of unreleased games.
I'm also kind of amazed there's no in game Ash themed outfit set available. Like c'mon if you're going to nostalgia bait then give anime fans something to latch on to.
Holy shit, having mods already for an unreleased game reminds me of when the GBA had emulators ready a fucking year before it even came out

Masuda stop trying to make stuff more swallow; accessibility doesn't mean stuff cannot be deep; people can enjoy things without going deep, but people who enjoy the depth won't like it being removed.
THANK GOD he's (probably) stepping down. Get some fresh minds in there.
Is it an unpopular opinion that the Go capture mechanic - at least how I'm seeing it presented in Let's Go! - wouldn't be the worst side-mechanic to carry over to the main line games? Now that it exists, I realize I really like the idea of having a method of capturing Pokemon that doesn't involve beating the snot out of them, and the originsl capture mechanic itself only really has so much depth to it to begin with. Of course I want to clarify that I mean it as an additive feature, not one to replace the current mechanic. They could both fill different roles. The Go capture mechanic could allow for potential boosts to friendship and affection, as well as leaving more room for XP gain with fancier throws or whatever. The original capture mechanic could be more emphasized against 'stronger' pokemon. The pokemon you chain up dexnav-like systems, the legendaries, etc. This system could be seen as more 'reliable' as, when twirling your ball around fails, you can just resort to beating the snot out of it.

I play GO. It is hell for legendaries, because it ends up being random chance all in all, with the added aggravation of having to aim to a large distant target that moves. Fuck that shit. Fuck that shit in the main series as well, a catch rate of 15 is the bare acceptable minimum, otherwise capture becomes statistically unlikely no matter what you do. And forced motion controls can go fuck themselves. Oh, and GO ends up making it so you can lose balls to a goddamn Rattata because it decided to jump. No, just no. Shame on it.
Eh - Don't you feel like a lot of those complaints become non-issues if the system were optional? If it was properly incentivized (again, I think the Go capture mechanic being geared towards getting an early start on friendship/affection is a pretty solid idea) then I'm not sure the frustration present in the mechanic would be enough to properly shame it out of the series. I mean, the core capture mechanic has it's fair share of faults too. Say what you will about a Rattata jumping out of the way of your pokeball, I've never needed to expend more than five or so pokeballs on a pokemon in Go.
how can ivs prevent you from playing comp when all actual competition is done on simulators playing on cart is inherently uncompetitive due to shit rulesets and the inability to instantly change stuff like dude, literally everything used at vgc is genned, nobody actually breeds/rngs for shit if they're competing
I never need to use more than a Pokeball in the main series, specially after Quick Balls become readily obtainable. And I take it you haven't really gone to raids in GO. You could just say that breeding is easy and good IVs are becoming readily obtainable, no need to go full edgelord. Even if I hex and learned most of the stuff from you, that lack of care is quite prone to come back to bite your ass.
People stash their starters? I can't recall a single game in the series where I've ever actually done that honestly.
