Prepare for trouble. https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1017606056141312000
Out of all the nostalgia pandering the games doing, they really insist on retconning Gary to be a friendly do-gooder rival instead of the snarky lil cunt he was in gen 1 and the anime? What ever happened to Gary Motherfucking Oak? You know, one of the most memorable characters from generation 1. Hell, even veterans are clamoring for it, since all the hometown beginning-of-game rivals since Silver have been more friends with a common goal than an adversarial rival like Gary/Blue. It's been easily one of the most requested changes to the plot and character formula the games have formed from the fans.
Far as I can tell this isn't a retcon, and Red and Blue are different characters from the player and rival here.
It wouldn't make sense for them to be going thru the same adventure as Red/Blue...
Here's the Japanese trailer Jesse and James are from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9KY2tM7cCw Also a bunch of sites have listed the next movie teaser, since the movie is out in Japan: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. http://www.pokebeach.com/2018/07/pokemon-movie-22-mewtwo-strikes-back-evolution

I just wish Game Freak clarifies why they are doing this. They are transmogrifying rival characters into boring cheerleaders.

christ I totally forgot that bikes are now obsolete. The bike song will be solely missed.
I like this detail, the Rival's house colour changes between the Japanese and English versions. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/108621/ad10f5df-ecc7-41dd-8668-7a8f106d877b/image.png

Anyone looking to get good and angry here you go. https://mynintendonews.com/2018/07/21/junichi-masuda-capturing-pokemon-was-too-difficult-for-some-players-which-is-one-of-the-changes-in-lets-go/
oh masuda you shouldn't have lied.... otherwise you would've also used pokemon go's battle system as well.
masuda sure doesnt have much respect for this game's userbase does he
This was a controversial decision even at Game Freak, but Masuda says that as he is the director it’s “his responsibility”. Well at least he's up front about being a fucking idiot.
can't have it resemble a game too closely now can we?
Besides a few Pokemon who had obscenely low catch rates and/or some legendary battles, I've never met anyone who complained the catching mechanic was "too difficult". If you want to make it easier, raise the catch rate for some Pokemon, don't eliminate the entire fucking mechanic jesus.
The only mechanic that I hated about catching was in Sun and Moon with wild Pokemon being able to call help. That shit was infuriating.
This made me remember a dream some years ago where I was playing Pokemon Platinum with the catching mechanic replaced for a persuasion system very similar to Shin Megami Tensei logic, because "the classic mechanic was difficult and confusing". To sum it up, monsters have their own personalities and to "catch" them you have to either comply its conditions or make them sympathize with you to consider joining your party. Now that they are searching ways to keep the game fresh this crossed my head and gave me chills.
People who have nostalgia for the series looked down on Go not having the "weaken before throwing the ball" mechanic. Masuda is being kinda idiotic, and foregoing good game design by oversimplificating things.
meanwhile, they refused to bring back safari zone. what the fuck
I beat Ultra Moon last night and I've now beaten a game in every generation. My first game was Gold, later got Crystal which I played the most. I got Red and Blue later on. I got Ruby but after that I dropped from the series for a long time. About a year ago I started playing Ruby again, finally beating the Elite Four (got up to the Champ before), then picked up the later games and played through them. Here's the ones that I've completed (Beat Elite Four + major post-game content) Bold = Games completed in the past year Gen 1: Red/Blue/Yellow Gen 2: Gold/Crystal Gen 3: Ruby Gen 4: Platinum, Heart Gold Gen 5: White, White 2 Gen 6: X, Alpha Sapphire Gen 7: Ultra Moon One day I'll need to revive my Crystal cartridge and overdose on nostalgia. Maybe I'll complete the Pokédex in it too.
I remember not being able to beat Pokemon Yellow as a kid lol, but had no issue with Gold. The first time I beat Sapphire was on a emulator playing at 300% speed at all times. It was weird.
