These changes are getting me really excited for the Gen 8 release next year
Did so in White 2; Oshawott is quite boring and used it in White, Snivy is a defensive Grass, and Tepig would be redundant with Growlithe and Riolu, so I ended up picking Oshawott and switching it for a Frillish, which pulled its weight quite well.
I was gonna make a list of what looks like the Master Trainers, but I got bored and frankly it's not really all that challenging from the looks of it. Mostly coverage attacks and stallers, with the Pidgey master being Fly/Toxic/Protect/Roost. Spoilers, oddly, Mina the painter using Fairy types from Sun and Moon makes an appearance and you can fight her.
Thats funny if a coincidence, hilarious if it isn’t.
It's likely the translator team having a laugh, the Zubat/Golbat masters are named West and Keaton, and the Vileplume master is named Satoko, the Japanese name Ash took when he cross-dressed in the anime.
That’s great

Surprised how not awful/not Gen 1 pandery it looks. But not nearly as surprised as I am at how the least jarring Pokemon in that entire trailer is Mr. fucking Mime.
Fucking Hollywood is doing less gen I pandering than Masuda? Yep, guy is not in the best position.

No wonder the designs looked so familiar
Other then the super realistic fur, Pikachu's expressions are pretty faithful to the anime.
Ehhh, seems pretty Gen 1 pandery plenty. Of the 3D Pokemon I saw, I count two that were outside Gen 1: Floette's in the begining, and Greninjas
There's also a Pancham.
And a comfey, braviary and boufalant in the opening, a rufflet at the cage match, morullel with the bulbasaurs, joltic and an audino (And what seems like a golurk) in the market. And there's also all the various signs and posters that have others as well.
Hm, interesting (Let's Go spoilers) https://twitter.com/_Mizumi/status/1062071311466409984
I saw a bouffalant at the very beginning and some emolga a little later on.
I don't know about y'all but this looks kinda fun. It's certainly not a perfect adaptation but it's doing it's own thing while keeping the concepts of the actual games intact. Better that than the movie taking itself way too seriously and/or barely trying to keep any semblance of the actual source material *cough monster hunter cough*
It seems like a nice diversion while waiting for next year's game.
I'm a bit surprised by the positive reaction the trailer is getting, outside of the Pokemon designs. It just looks like generic family film shlock to me.
That's probably exactly why it's so well received. An animated pokemon movie could have been any number of things, a lot of those possibilities outright terrible depending on who was helming it. The fact we're getting a live action, CGI-fueled pokemon movie, that's just a safe family film, that also takes place in what seems to be the most conventional interpretation of the pokemon world ever, well, that's interesting.
I think the worldbuilding is gonna go a long way. Like, realistically speaking, this is your usual "guy gets a quirky CGI pet/friend and they go on an adventure" movie, but then you look at the poster: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/241798/d7fb9949-7e78-4ffd-a9bf-f6c77b6fa77d/image.png and all the emphasis is placed on the world. You've got little details like "Unova-Style Pizza" that make this feel like something a little more playful than "we got the rights to some gay video game shit for babies, shit out a Smurfs/Alvin and the Chipmunks type family picture". At the very least it'll be enjoyable schlock, in a surreal sort of way. Like, I've watched the trailer a half dozen times today because who thought we'd ever see a fucking live-action Pokemon movie.
https://twitter.com/Kaphotics/status/1062215694358478850 Looks like the starter Eevee is where you're going to have an easier time. All of the new attacks have a secondary effect that always activates and is useful in some way (screens, Haze, Leech Seed, Water type Mega Drain etc).
You know they changed all the mini sprites in XY right? Not a single one of the RS are still in the game. DS era sprites. 3DS era sprites. These ones are lazy. They only made new stuff for "fully" evolved Pokemon, and even skipped on megas. Half-assed resources.

My opinions on the game seem to line up with GameXplain's review. I guess I should hold off on it then, but I will keep tabs on it to see if they ever decide to add more Pokemon generations or something.
