I just honestly assume that they're being repurposed because they're prominent to some gym leaders/elite four members.
Arbok/Weezing - Team Rocket evolves theirs when you fight them at the Pokemon Tower/Silph in Yellow. maybe you'll finally see Arbok with visible patterns within the same game based on which region it is imported from; a mid-generation/spinoff shift?
Golem, Machamp, Hitmons are Bruno's Pokemon.
Raichu - Already presumably got trademarked pre-emptively when they made it's Alolan form. probably did it again for Lt Surge.
Persian - Giovanni's.
Jynx - Lorelei's.
Starmie - Misty's.
Vaporeon/Flareon/Jolteon are indirectly trademarked because of Eevee. maybe your rival will get one irregardless of which version you get, which just means Eevee is going to be shoved down your throat either way. though i would wonder if
Dragonite - Lance.
The weirdest omissions would be Onix, but i guess they might have gotten that trademark when Steelix got a Mega. like Bruno's Hitmons+Golem+Machamp, he has one too. though Onix would be more associated with Brock. though i wonder if those trainers will have effects on the game's plot. maybe Lt Surge invokes the whole Pikachu vs Raichu on you? for Bruno, he'd probably get some more focus since even in G/S he didn't get much.
Pokemon like Gengar are probably too iconic for the franchise to require refreshing. it's almost Poliwhirl-tier. again, Megas.
Bruno had a pair of Onix, not Golem. Interesting enough, Golem isn't owned by any NPC in the Gen 1 games, and you need a friend with a Graveler to see every Pokemon.
I really hope the first gen 8 game is really good in terms of content. XY and SuMo were really dry beyond their campaigns. Plus the games will likely be 60 usd versus 40, so I really hope they compare to Splatoon and BotW.
Though I think I could see them doing something akin to the FE Fates games in having the base game at a price while having other campaigns at a reduced price.

I don't think they ever were. I would loved to see Game Freak sticking to their convictions when Nintendo suggested switching the mascot from Clefairy to Pikachu, rather than cave.

I can't wait for them to cram Viridian City with gen 7 levels of unskippable tutorials so you can spend three hours learning the fire/grass/water type advantage triangle.

The video that accompanies the screenshots are almost a non thing, save for it being the biggest point towards Pokémon in LGPE will have no abilities (Mega Kanga's Dizzy Punch automatically hits twice before Parental Bond activates).
