I guess there's a reason why you're called salty peanut
das a quagsire
That's not really being fair to the PS2. Looks more like high end graphics from the tail end of PSX, but upscaled.
So, is Grookey just a green squirrel monkey with a two leaves and a stick on its head, or...?
You are being very harsh on the graphics to a point that is extremely unwarranted, it doesn't look a thing like PS2 or 3DS. You may need to go play those systems games again, because they look a lot worse than you remember it. The art style is reminiscent of X/Y but there's not nearly enough super aliased cel shading for that, and the cave lighting has more effects on it than any area in those games. Also the trailer I looked at had big "GAME FOOTAGE NOT FINAL" on it and it's got no release date except being near the end of the year.
i'm talking about the hills in the very-background. the ones with grass texture stretched over very visible polygons the point stands; they say it's a place full of pokemon, but it looks just as lifeless as ever
background objects are of course going to be even MORE placeholder than what we're seeing

Maybe if the UK was a rectangle. I'm just saying the geography is less obvious then previous gens. It's clearly inspired by the UK art wise.
Looks like Great Britain without Southern England and Cornwall, and with a large metropolis in Scotland.
A Water/Physic type starter would be nice. But that means that Scorbunny would have to be like part dark or part steel and I don't see that really happening.
fire/fighting oh no
Had to correct my self. For some reason I was thinking in defenses but Sobble would have to be double effective against Scorbunny.
We only get a sentence for each of them, I was hoping for a bit more about the starters. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/129/55681e48-7e5c-4f1f-bef2-e7b1381547e5/image.png There's a debate of Scorbunny evolving into a Fire/Fighting final evo again with the nose patch, but I'm getting more Fire/Electric vibes. I'm not sure about Grookey or Sobble.
I was personally thinking fire/electric my self. Sun and Moon showed they were trying to go with more unique typings for the starters. Would suck to them to revert back to safe picks.
fire/electric would be in incredible offensive typing, and I've seen some others express that vibe, but I don't really see where the electric comes in
I've never been too big on what the graphics look like, probably a result of growing up on lower end systems requiring lower end graphics. At this point I'm interested in the gameplay, I sorta dropped off of playing pokemon games cause my 3ds' battery got messed up, but I still love it. I grew up playing pokemon, starting out with Red version on a Game Boy color because the Nintendo DS was out by that point and my dad got them cheap off of ebay, and I played everything until about Pokemon Sun (when my battery died). Hell, I managed to get my Blaziken from Pokemon Ruby all the way to Omega Ruby. When I get my new job imma probably get a new 2ds xl to play the games on.
Huh, interesting.
I think it comes from how they are trying to market how he likes to run.
I doubt they'll be Fire-Electric. That'd give them effectiveness against the water one, and ineffectiveness against the grass one. I mean, they could be shaking things up, but I doubt it. It's going to be another goddamn fire fighting furry. is it so much to ask for a fire starter that's not humanoid, or at least a different type of humanoid like Delphox I can't say I'm a fan of how the region looks. Art and style wise, sure, amazing. But the map is literally just a straight line.
The rabbit literally has sports tape and the nose bandage on scrappy kids. It's fighting and it's best to just accept it now.
After sun and moon I would have thought that they would start being more creative with their starter typings considering how we got water/fairy, fire/dark (which was designed as a fire/fighting to be fair), and grass/ghost. Would such if we go straight back to safe typings like fire/fighting.
You can't exactly predict what they'll evolve into since they can just hit puberty and decide to stand on two legs. Although I must wonder if they are still doing the D&D class archetypes (Gen 6: Paladin, Mage, Rogue / Gen 7: Archer, Barbarian, Bard)
I know. And it's terrible. Although if the final evo is literally a firefighter rabbit with a jacket and helmet who jumps into burning buildings, I would turn around and express my undying love for it because at least they'd be honest.
Scorbunny does seem to take influence from soccer. So maybe it will be fire/ground? Soccer players aren't known for outright brawling.
Overworld encounters absolutely did not get universal praise
Random encounters in the style of old pokemon games are so antiquated as a game mechanic, I'm honestly sick of it.
So a Dark type with Fake Tears and Feint Attack

And so begins the reign of the Fire/Dark starters.
