already bought it. had fun on my first game. games after that not so much.
Arnold Tsang and Ben Zhang, two artists from Blizzard, held a livestream about the design of Wrecking Ball.
They also showed some early concepts. Their base was to create "a cute hero".

Number 5 reminds me of some kind of Digimon, and number 4 looks like something straight out of Megaman.
The problem is, I think Blizzard listens to subreddit. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if teabagging is already a banable offense in the game.
Considering people have been banned for only playing 1 hero, I wouldn't be surprised if teabagging gets you banned as well.
6 is literally just Pip from Paladins.
So yeah, Brigitte is still OP in any kinda 1v1

That, or I am way better than I think, and I think I am shit at Overwatch.
5 is basically a Tachikoma with a mouse on top.
Number 4 of Hammond's original design straight up looks like it came from Classic Megaman
I had assumed this whole time that they came up with the wrecking ball gameplay mechanic and then made a hamster pilot because hamsters travel in balls. Which has made me wonder why they didn't just have it be an omnic or a human pilot because making the hamster for the sake of the animal joke seemed a bit much.
I can't believe they started with the hamster first and built the playstyle around him
the overwatch twitch pass is 15 dollars for prime members currently, just an fyi
not that it's any more worth it
It started with wanting a ball hero actually
Big Red will rise one day.
I started lagging bad in a comp game on Eichenwalde and lag compensation threw me of the bridge twice. I was our DPS too.
Feels bad man.
I wonder if we'll get the summer event at the same day as well.
oh so I guess it was kind of like Ana, where they wanted an alchemist healer and wanted to make the old sniper woman a hero, so they just used them together
so they already had a ball idea and also wanted a cute critter. makes sense i guess, even if in the canon a small monkey would've been already established
The summer event isn't till August anyway right?
Last year it started on August 8th
so does everyone fight over the new character in this game like they do in other games?
Jump on top of squishy people and snipers and ruin their day. Don't play him like you would a reinhart or a dva, the second the other team have a chance to focus on you you'll melt.
Depends. Sometimes you get people who insta lock it, but it's not uncommong for teams to not have the new hero either. At least in my experience.
Winston used to be pretty good for countering widowmaker
now her grapple CD is so low there’s no chance you’re getting her before she’s up a healers ass or half way across the map.
unrelated:
i saw a concept for McRee where getting a critical hit would reduce your roll cooldown by 1 second
it’d probably be OP with tanks around but what about reducing the cooldown by a percentage for every hit? Therefore it would be a smaller reduction as your cooldown lowers but would still reward headshotting
Winston seems underwhelming, but he's very hard for most characters to get rid of or escape from. His gun does constant damage in a cone in front of him, and goes through barriers as well as enemies. If you can get a drop someone with his jump and a melee attack, they'll be down a huge chunk of health before they can even react. And in a game where mobility matters so much, Winston's usually one of the better choices in the higher skill rankings.
His barrier also lets him fight tankbusters like Reaper.
Winston is my go-to Mercy hunter.
He's extremely effective against squishy people, particularly Widow, Hanzo, Genji, Mercy, Lucio, Zenyatta and Sombra. If the enemy team has a few of those then a good Winston can demolish them.
If the enemy team has a Rein, I also like tickling the Rein behind the shield to force him to make a move before he gets melted.
Most people don't realise that with a semi-decent healer pocketing you, you don't have to react to a Winston in your face as Rein, just keep that shield up. So they eventually drop the shield and try mauling you in the face or charging you. (Since charge is the most telegraphed thing in OW you can just jump up and back down as the rest of your team destroys the Rein)
In the next patch we’re reviewing the current state of support heroes and are making some changes to nearly all of them to keep them competitive with each other. I’ll start by just listing the changes below:
Ana
Nano Boost additionally heals the target instantly for 300 HP.
Brigitte
Shield Bash cooldown increased from 6 to 7 seconds.
Lúcio
Sound Barrier effect increased 50% from 500 to 750 shields.
Crossfade aura radius increased 20% from 10m to 12m.
Mercy
Primary fire healing beam reduced 17% from 60 HP/s to 50 HP/s.
Moira
Healing resource base regen rate increased 20%.
Now that all the changes are listed, I’ll go through each hero and talk a bit about the goals of these changes and our current views on each support hero in general.
____
Ana
Ana has a very strong and unique toolbox, with the potential to dish out more healing than any other hero in the game. That said, she has a couple disadvantages that can be difficult to overcome, such the potential to miss your targets, not having any mobility options, and having a more difficult time keeping herself healed up. Her ultimate can be very powerful but often feels like it can be difficult to use effectively unless it is used in combination with other allied ultimates such as Genji’s Dragonblade. This new change allows Ana to use her ultimate as a clutch save on a dying teammate, or even use it in combination with her Biotic Grenade for a huge instant heal on even the biggest of tank health pools.
Brigitte
Shield Bash is Brigitte’s strongest ability, and its short cooldown makes it very difficult to play around. We’d like to keep her Shield Bash and subsequent melee combos powerful and effective, while just allowing a little more counter-play against it. We’ve talked about possibly reducing her defense somewhere, such as reducing her barrier health. However, her tank-hybrid nature is a core part of her kit and we want to make sure she maintains that feeling of being a difficult target to take down. Overall Brigitte’s win rate is still the highest of any support, despite dishing out the lowest amount of raw healing per second. This speaks volumes to how powerful her kit can be outside of her direct healing numbers.
Lúcio
Lucio’s Crossfade aura can be an invaluable addition for any team, but it can sometimes be difficult to keep your whole team boosted. We’re increasing the radius of Lucio’s Crossfade aura to allow more flexibility in how he moves while still maintaining his powerful support songs to help out his team. His ultimate is also being increased to help counter large spikes of damage. For example, Junkrat’s ultimate can deal a maximum of 600 damage, which Sound Barrier can now potentially negate completely. It is worth noting that even though the initial shield he provides is larger, it still takes the same amount of time to destroy itself.
Mercy
Mercy is intended to be able to consistently pump out more healing than any other healer over the course of a match. While this is currently true, the difference in healing is so significant that it makes it very difficult for other healers to compete with her for a spot on a team. Reducing her healing output will close this gap a little, but she will still maintain her status as the go-to pick for raw healing power. We’ll keep an eye on her to make sure she is still a strong pick.
Moira
Moira is a strong hero that doesn’t need a ton of changes. The resource change her is mostly to help her out in the situations where you’re just not able to get close enough the enemy to drain them for resources. Now if you’re team is sparring with the enemy team at super long ranges, you’ll have a bit more resources to work with to keep your team topped off.
Zenyatta
We aren’t making any changes to Zen right now, as we feel he is in a pretty good spot. He is doing his job well as a hybrid damage/healer and being able to provide discord orb for your team will always be welcome.
These changes are coming to the PTR very soon. We’re always looking at our stats, gathering feedback 2 and playing the game to make sure we keep all the heroes viable. We will have time to watch and iterate on these changes throughout this PTR cycle, so please play and give feedback!
Upcoming Balance Changes for Support Heroes
I can't quite grasp why Nano Boost should also provide the greatest healing burst in the entire game, but I've long since stopped asking myself such questions.
I welcome Moira's change, as I was feeling that healing with her forced me to bee far too much conservative with my cures, which ended up damaging the whole team and made me act more like a dps than a proper support hero.
About Mercy's new supposed update ... I don't know, who even fucking cares about her at this point, I wonder
A lot of people care about Mercy? She is still stupidly strong even after getting nerfed 2-3 times
I guess they want to add some more utility to nano boost other than "dump on a dps right before they ult".
Something that improved my resource usage as Moira is to make use of the afterheal of her primary. After an ally has been blasted with her primary, the healing effect lingers for about 3 seconds and heals an additional amount of about 50 HP.
So instead of fully topping off an ally by continuously firing her primary heal like a garden sprinkler, I just give them a short burst of about 0.5-1 second. That is more than plenty to fully top off a 200 HP hero.
It also helps if your team groups up slighty because you can heal multiple targets at once for the same amount of resources.
